Joyce A. Fishnick

 Joyce A. Fishnick, age 71, of Cassville, died on Friday, October 10, 2008 at her home.  She was born on June 3, 1937 in Cassville Township, the daughter of Peter and Eileen (Adrian) Brinkman.  Joyce married Walter D. Fishnick on February 10, 1954 in Cassville.  Together they farmed on the Fishnick Family farm.  She enjoyed her family and spending time with their activities.

      Joyce is survived by six children:  Debra (David) Ley, Chana, IL, Walter (Michele) Fishnick, Jr., Cassville, Timothy (Deb) Fishnick, Riverton, UT, Shanna Jordan, Potosi, Kyle (Karla) Fishnick, Cassville and Lori (Roger) Schauff, Cassville; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; her mother, Eileen Brinkman, Cassville; eight brothers and sisters:  Gary (Carol) Brinkman, Cassville, Sandra (Gary) Adams, Cassville, Rick Brinkman, Cassville, Gwen Johnson, Bagley, Pat (Dave) Udelhoven, Soldotna, AK, Renee (Mick) Leibrfried, Potosi, Mike Brinkman and Jeff Brinkman, both of Cassville; many nieces and nephews.

      She was preceded in death by her father; her husband, Walter; a great-grandson, Nolan Fishnick and a brother-in-law, Jon Johnson.

     Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial was in Cassville Cemetery in Cassville Township.  Family and friends were welcomed from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the funeral home.


Nolan F. Fishnick

     Nolan Frederick Fishnick was stillborn on Sunday, September 28, 2008, at Meriter Hospital in Madison.  Nolan is survived by his parents, Pete and Greta (Glasbrenner) Fishnick, and his big brother, Tyler all of Lancaster; his grandparents, Kyle and Karla Fishnick, Cassville; Rick and Alisa Oswald, Prairie du Chien; Kevin and Sara Glasbrenner, Fennimore; his great-grandparents, Joyce Fishnick, Cassville; Albert Breuer, Cassville; Eleanor Chamberlain, Prairie du Chien; Donna Glasbrenner, Boscobel; and Dolores Oswald, Wauzeka.  He is also survived by a great-great grandmother, Eileen Brinkman, Cassville.  He will be sadly missed my many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

     Private Family Graveside services were held on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at Cassville Cemetery, Cassville.  

 


Douglas Fleming

Douglas W. Fleming born on March 25, 1924in Avoca Wisconsin. He was the third child of Edwin and Edna (Geller) Fleming. His siblings were Darrell, Eleanor Herburger and Ed Jr. He made his home around the Bagley, Wisconsin area until a few years ago and has enjoyed living in Prairie du Chien since.

He passed away on November 1, 2011 at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital after a long illness. Visitation will be at Martin Swartz Funeral Home in Bloomington Wisconsin, Saturday November 5, 201, from 10:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. followed by the Funeral Service and 11:30 a.m. and Interment at the Avoca Cemetery in Avoca, Wisconsin.

Doug loved his country and was proud to have served in World War II. He enlisted in the Army Air Corp in 1943. He later transferred into the Field Artillery and served in the Aleutian Islands until 1946. Doug retired from the Wisconsin State Patrol after fourteen years. After his retirement Doug started his own business, Dry Hollow Rock and Gem.

He was also a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He was raised in the Bloomington Masonic Lodge.

He married Nancy Lou (McLean) on December 5, 1948and together they enjoyed many hobbies and interests such as hunting, fishing, trapping, bicycling, lapidary, cross country skiing, canoeing, and ice skating. When he would master one he would look for another. Doug was also a General Class licensed Ham Radio operator who talked with people all around the world.

Doug is survived by his wife Nancy, and their three children Doug Jr., (Sue) of Fennimore WI, Dana (Regina) of Ankeny IA, and Rhonda Zutz (Ken) of Longmont CO; grandchildren, Dawn Riley, Shelly Fleming, Zachary Fleming, Willie Zutz and Christopher Zutz. His great-grandchildren were a great joy in his life and he enjoyed every minute that he was able to spend with Leah, Peyton & Hannah Riley as well as little Skylar Fleming. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and a grandson, Gabriel Dana Fleming.

Eileen F. (Walker) Flesch

     Eileen Frances (Walker) Flesch, age 86, of Platteville, died at home on Friday, May 29, 2009 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle against cancer.  Eileen was born on September 17, 1922 at home in Ismay, MT to Charles and Ellen (Shea) Walker.  Eileen went to Miles City High School for 3 years and then went to Lancaster, WI for her senior year and graduated in 1940.  She married Laverne “Beany” Flesch on October 28, 1941 in Lancaster, WI.  He preceded her in death on February 29, 2008.

     She was a homemaker and mother to 9 children.  She loved to crochet , make quilts, and play card games, especially Euchre.  She was also a Brewer and Packer fan.  You could always find ice cream treats in the freezer, specifically drumsticks and push-ups.  She was a master of cooking squirrel and telling stories.  Eileen was quick-witted and possessed a great sense of humor.  Eileen’s greatest love was her family.

     Eileen is survived by 9 children:  David (Joan) of Mansfield, PA and children Amy, Gail, and Carla; Barbara (Jim) Smith of Pima, AZ; Bruce (Carla) of Platteville, WI; Sarah (Jim) Barutha of Bozeman, MT and children Debbie, Phillip, and Kate; Bill (Chris) of East Dubuque, IL and children Melissa, Maureen, Melanie, and Ryan; Pat of Platteville, WI; Dan (Beth) of Platteville, WI and children Nate, Kurt, and Joel; Alan (Mary Wunderlin) of Platteville, WI; Barry (Diane) and children Ely and Anica.  She has 3 step grandchildren Rob, Roger, and Jia Smith; 7 great-grandchildren, and 3 step-great grandchildren.

     She is survived by a sister, Mary Bishell of Lancaster, WI.  She was preceded in death by her parents and brother Lee (Ruth) Walker and brother-in-law Burnell Bishell.

     A Mass of Christian Burial were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville with Monsignor Charles Schluter officiating.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, June 3 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville with a Parish Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m.  Friends were also welcome from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service on Thursday at the church. 

     In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Southwest Health Center Hospice or Wisconsin Badger Camp in honor of Eileen Flesch.  On behalf of Eileen Flesch’s family, we would like to thank:   Southwest Health Center Hospice, Monsignor Charles Schluter of St. Mary’s Catholic Parish, and Southwest Home Care, especially Joyce Reiter and Heather Quincy.

John H. Flesch

John H. Flesch, age 62, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at his home in Lancaster.  He was born on July 3, 1948, in Lancaster, the son of Joseph and Gladys (Hardy) Flesch.  John attended St. Clement Catholic School and graduated from Lancaster High School.  He furthered his education at University of Wisconsin at Platteville, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science.  John served his country in the United States Navy for six years, stationed out of Norfolk, VA.  He loved playing cards at Zippy’s, crossword puzzles and cryptograms.  John had been employed at Wal-Mart in Platteville for many years.

Survivors include his sisters:  Mary Raup, Madison; Marjorie (Jay) Herning, Alva, OK; JoAnn Flesch, Madison; nieces and nephews: Cecilia (Stephen) Fishnick; Brad (Kate), Brittney and Stephanie (Wesley Stanek); Nancy (George Forbes) Flesch; Mary T. (Morgan Cronson) Raup; John P. Raup; Heather (John) Budewitz; Sarah (Ken) Kramer; Lisa (Danny Zarella) Herning; George Herning; his aunts: Mildred Kelly, Dubuque, IA; Dorothy Martin Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by a brother, James “Curly” Flesch, brother-in-law, John A. Raup, and numerous cousins.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial with military honors was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.


Laverne “Beany” Edward Flesch

     Laverne “Beany” Edward Flesch, age 88, of Platteville, died on Friday, February 29, 2008 at Heartland Health Care Center in Platteville with his family surrounding his bedside after enduring Alzheimer’s Disease.  Beany, as he was known to all, was born on December 22, 1919, at home in Potosi to Edward and Emma (Duve) Flesch.  He graduated from Potosi High School in 1937 and went to college in Platteville for one year.

     In the spring of 1941, he went to California to work as a bakery delivery man with his brother, Martin.  Beany came back in the fall of that year to marry Eileen Walker of Miles City, Montana.  The couple was married on October 28, 1941 in Lancaster, WI.  The newlyweds returned to California until February 1942, when Beany was drafted into the army.

     He was in the army for 3 ½ years, stationed in North Carolina, Texas and Mississippi.  He was sent to the European theatre in August of 1944, where he served with the 609th Tank Destroyers, as their company clerk.  He was proud to say that the men never missed a pay day while he was company clerk.  Beany was honorably discharged in September of 1945.

     The couple then settled in Potosi where he worked for Walsh’s Store in Tennyson and later with Arno Keehner in Potosi.  In 1950, they moved to Harlowton, Montana to run a gas station and later worked for a car dealership.  During their time in Montana, Beany loved to fly fish, hunt deer, elk and antelope.

     The family moved back to Platteville in 1956 where Beany worked for several implement businesses.  He later ran Flesch Implement in Potosi from 1964 – 1984.  He worked there until closing the shop and then worked as a rural route mail carrier around Potosi.  Beany finally retired in 1989.

     Beany belonged to the Berg Averkamp VFW Post No. 5276 in Potosi, which he helped to start.  He was also a member of the Leo M. Kane American Legion Post No. 42 and St. Mary’s Catholic Church, both in Platteville.  Beany and Eileen had a great life together.  Family was most important.  Beany has been to more cross country meets, football, volleyball games and tennis matches for his children and grandchildren than one could count.  He was often with friends and family hunting mushrooms in the spring, fishing on the river, growing huge potatoes, or pitching horse shoes.  He was a Green Bay Packer fan, loved to study the history of Potosi and look up the family genealogy.  He will be remembered as a good friend, always willing to give of his time to help others out.  Beany was a loving father, grandfather and husband who worked hard and lived out positive values for others to follow.

     Beany is survived by his wife of 66 years, Eileen Flesch, Platteville; nine children:  David (Joan) Flesch, Mansfield, PA and children Amy, Gail and Carla; Barbara (Jim) Smith, Pima, AZ; Bruce (Carla) Flesch, Platteville; Sarah (Jim) Barutha, Bozeman, MT and children Debbie, Kate and Philip; Bill (Chris) Flesch, East Dubuque, IL and children Melissa, Maureen, Melanie and Ryan; Pat Flesch, Platteville; Dan (Beth) Flesch, Platteville and children Nathan, Kurt and Joel; Alan Flesch (Mary Wunderlin), Platteville; Barry (Diane) Flesch, Baraboo and children Ely and Anica.  They also have three step-grandchildren, Rob, Roger and Jia Smith; six great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.  He is further survived by a sister, Marcella Udelhofen, Platteville and a brother, Jerry (Nancy) Flesch, Des Moines, Iowa; three sisters-in-law Lillian Flesch, Mineral Point, Jo Flesch, Evansville and Mary Bishell, Lancaster;   many nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and four brothers:  Mary (Earl) Rider, Martin “Buck” (Dorothy) Flesch, Evans Flesch, Kathryn (Harry) Wann, Dorothy (George) Johnson, Clarence “Sleepy” Flesch, Francis “Blacky” Flesch; two brothers-in-law, Ray Udelhofen and Burnell Bishell.

     A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 3, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville with Monsignor Charles Schluter officiating.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery, Platteville where Military Rites were accorded by the Berg Avercamp VFW Post #5276 of Potosi.  Visitation was held on Sunday, March 2 from 3:00 until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Platteville with a Parish Rosary Service at 3:00 p.m.  Friends were also welcomed from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Monday at the church. 


Floyd A. "Bud" Fralick

Floyd A. “Bud” Fralick, age 90, of Glen Haven, died on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  He was born on May 24, 1919, in Bagley, the son of Clarence and Hazel (Shrake) Fralick.  Bud entered the United States Marines and served his country during World War II.  Following his honorable discharge, he was employed with Walz Lumber.  On October 30, 1945, Bud was united in marriage to Verna M. Ertel at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven.  He was employed as a Postmaster in Glen Haven for the United States Postal Service for thirty years.  Bud was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a charter and founding member of the Glen Haven Volunteer Fire Department.  He was a lifelong member of the VFW Post No. 7080 of Cassville, Liscum Brothers American Legion Post No. 482 of Bagley, DAV, NRA, and was a Cub Scout leader.  Bud was active in local gun clubs with trapshooting and gun sports.  He was also a member of the Cassville Conservation Club, Bloomington Sportsman’s Club and was a published author.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Fralick, Glen Haven; children: Nancy (Bob) Ostrander, Eastman; Charles (friend Cheryl Metcalf) Fralick, Glen Haven; Kristine (Ray) Thomsen, Long Grove, IA; John (Marie) Fralick, Dodgeville; eight grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; and a sister, Lillian (George) McKinney, Bagley.

In addition to his parents, Bud was preceded in death by his sisters: Elsie Drew, and Geneva Picha, and three brothers, Ed , Lawrence and Bob Fralick.

Funeral services were on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial with military honors was in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven.  Family and Friends called on Saturday, May 22, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Bud A. Fralick memorial fund has been established.  Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington assisted the family.


Catherine M. Frear

     Catherine M. Frear, age 93, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died on Saturday, March 21, 2009, at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster after a brief illness.   She was born on March 3, 1916, the daughter of Loren and Bessie (Korber) Crapp in rural Potosi.  Catherine married Earl E. Frear on June 5, 1943.  Together they farmed in the Potosi area.  

       Catherine enjoyed hand sewing quilts for her family, gardening and cooking.  She was a member of Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi where she played piano as a young girl.  Catherine enjoyed her time as Sunday School Superintendent and was active in the Ladies Aid.

       Catherine is survived by four children:  Martha Frear, Madison, Mary Macke, Albany, Dwight (Mary) Frear, Lancaster and George (Ruth) Frear, Rapid City, SD; four grandchildren, Wade (Sara) Frear, Greg (Donnelle) Frear, Henry Frear and Kathleen (Jason) Kilgore; six great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Gladys Nelson, Boulder, CO, many friends and other relatives.

        She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on Dec. 29, 1982; her parents; and an infant daughter. 

       A public visitation was held on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster.  A private family service was held on Wednesday, March 25.  Burial was held in Boice Prairie Cemetery, Potosi Twp. 


Earl F. Friederick

     Earl F. Friederick, age 73, of Tennyson, passed away peacefully Thursday, December 4, 2008, at home surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with cancer.

      He was born on January 27, 1935 the son of LeRoy and Mary (Bies) Friederick in La Motte Iowa. On September 20, 1955, Earl was united in marriage to Pat Leibfried at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson.    Earl graduated from Coyne Electrical Technical College in Chicago.   Earl served in the United States Army National Guard.  He started his own business, Tennyson Electric, and served the communities in the Grant County area for over 50 years. Earl worked hard and was dedicated to helping people through his electrical knowledge and skills.  He was a member of the St. Andrew Catholic Church. He served on the Tennyson Village Board and was the Potosi-Tennyson Waste Water Treatment Commissioner from many years.   Earl cherished his wife, Pat, his children and grandchildren. He especially looked forward to family gatherings with his brothers and sister and joined in with them whatever the activity. Earl was a regular "river rat": from paddling the canoe to driving the pontoon on the Mississippi. Besides being charitable, he was also very handy and could fix anything, which was evident in his hobby of restoring antique radios.  Earl served in the United States Army National Guard for six years

     Earl survived by his wife of 53 years, Pat Friederick, Tennyson; seven children and 13 grandchildren: Judy (David) Irish, Potosi and their children, Jeff (fiance', Danielle Bartels) Jill and Brandon; Matt (Rosalie) Friederick, Lancaster; Neil Friederick (fiance', Tricia Mergen), Lancaster and their son Alex; Russ (Arlene) Friederick, Potosi and their children, Grace and Nathan; Monica (Jon) Friederick-Reiten, Balsam Lake and their daughter, Tess; Annette Jepperson, Potosi and her children, Kayla, Connor, and Courtney; Kirk (Jennifer) Friederick, Dubuque, IA and their children, Maggie, Ethan, and Evan; four brothers, Joe (Mary) Friederick, Lancaster, Ken (June) Friederick, La Motte, IA, Leo (Janet) Friederick, Cassville and Carl (Carol) Friederick, Hazel Green; a sister, Esther (Clete) Kruser, Hazel Green; two sister-in-laws, Florence Friederick, Fennimore and Carol Friederick, Potosi; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Mary Friederick; two brothers, Ralph and Donald, and a sister, Shirley; two nieces and two nephews, Roger, Mary Ann, and Sarah Friederick and Paul Reinecke.

     The visitation service was held from 1:30 until 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, December 7, 2008 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 8, 2008 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial was held in the church cemetery.

     In lieu of flowers and plants, memorials may be given to Hospice of Dubuque, and the Potosi Rescue Squad.

     The Friederick family would like to extend a thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and a special thanks to nurses, Mary Greil and Jennifer Friederick, and social worker Kathy Schroeder.  The family is being served by the Potosi Martin Funeral Home


Rosalie A. Friederick

     Rosalie A. Friederick, age 49, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at the Finley Hospital, Dubuque.  She was born on December 17, 1959, in Dubuque, Iowa, the daughter of Edmund and Helen (Leibold) Droessler.  Rosalie graduated from Lancaster High School and attended Southwest Tech in Fennimore.  On May 12, 1984, she was united in marriage to Matthew Friederick at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  After their marriage, Rosalie was employed with M & I Bank as a secretary for 29 years, until her retirement in 2009.

       Rosalie was an avid Cubs and Badgers fan and she loved to play games.  She enjoyed being on the river and pontooning.  Rosalie always had a great attitude and was the life of the party.  She especially loved all her family and friends.

       Survivors include her husband, Matthew Friederick, Lancaster; her sister, Beverly (Larry) Copus, Stilwell, KS; her brother, Mark (Julie) Droessler, Walford, IA; her mother-in-law, Pat Friederick, Potosi; six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law:  Judy (Dave) Irish, Neil Friederick (Trisha Mergen) and Russ (Arlene) Friederick, all of Potosi; Monica (Jon) Reiten, Balsam Lake, WI, Annette Jepperson, Potosi and Kirk (Jen) Friederick, Dubuque, IA; many aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews.

       She was preceded in death by her parents and her father-in-law, Earl Friederick.

       Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Ron Rank officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Tuesday, October 13, 2009, from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. where there will be a Prayer Service at 3:45 and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at St. Clement Catholic Church.  Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster served the family


Esther L. Fruit

     Esther L. Fruit, age 96, of Lancaster, WI, passed to eternal rest on Wednesday, December 4, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster, WI.  She was born June 6, 1912, in Potosi Township, the daughter of James and Louise (Reinke) Belscamper.  Esther was united in marriage to Harold Fruit on November 5, 1932, in Galena, IL.  Together they owned and operated the Fruit’s Garage in Lancaster beginning in 1949.  In addition, Esther was employed for sixteen years as a bookkeeper at the Lancaster Canning Factory and for eleven years at the Grant County Nurse’s Office in Lancaster.

       Esther was especially proud of her German heritage.  She loved gardening, quilting, ceramics, crafts, and playing euchre and bingo with her friends at the Lancaster Care Center.  But most of all she loved her family. 

     In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harold in l981; a sister, Caroline Belscamper; a brother, Louis Belscamper; sisters in law, Grace Belscamper and Eleanor Kenny; a brother in law, Edgar Fruit; and her beloved pet schnauzer, Penny.

       Survivors include a son, Gerald (Bonnie) Fruit, of Lancaster, a daughter, Judy (Allen) Wilkins, Verona, WI, and a sister in law, Eulalia Boak of Blue River, WI.; five grandchildren:  Tim (Donna) Fruit, Madison, WI; Jill (George) Marin, Albert Lea, MN; Kelly (Earl) MacHenry, Scottsdale, AZ; Lee Wilkins (Josh Rhodes), New York, NY; and Dr. Jay (Torrey) Wilkins, Beaver Dam, WI.; seven great grandchildren; Elisha and Suzie Marin, Amanda and Andrea Fruit, and Harrison, Ashton, and Alexander Wilkins.

        Funeral services were held on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center Chapel at 10:30 am with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery.  Friends called on Tuesday, December 9, from 5-7 PM at the Schwartz Funeral Home and on Wednesday at the Lancaster Care Center Chapel from 9:30 until the time of services.


Gordon Charles Fruit

     Gordon Charles Fruit, age 92, of New Lisbon, passed away on Saturday, August 29, 2009 at Hess Memorial Hospital in Mauston.

     He was born on April 13, 1917 in Waukesha, WI, the son of Clyde and Lucy (Chapman) Fruit.  Gordon was united in marriage to Alice E. Fleck on November 13, 1941.  Together they farmed for many years in Waukesha, Blanchardville, Reedsburg and Marshall, WI. 

      Gordon is survived by his wife, Alice, New Lisbon; five children:  Kay (Gary) Wilkins, Platteville, Richard (Judi) Fruit, Necedah, Timothy (Penny) Fruit, Jefferson, Gary (Gloria) Fruit, Marshall and Roger Fruit, Mt. Hope; five grandchildren:  Joshua (Theresa) Johnson, Columbus, Bryan (Irene) Fruit, Rock Springs, Sara Fruit, Reedsburg,  Stephanie (Rich) Nachreiner, Madison and Brandi (Mike McNicol) Fruit, Jefferson; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Ethelda Loose, East Troy; a brother-in-law, Arnold Gapinski, Dousman; and nieces and nephews.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Todd Fruit; a sister, Lorraine Gapinski; brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard Loose, Marie and Clarence Gierach and Louise and Hans Koch.

      A Memorial service was held at East Koshkonong Lutheran Church, 454 Church Rd., Cambridge, WI at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10, 2009.  Family will greet friends on Thursday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  His cremains were buried in the Greenwood Cemetery in Platteville.  The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville is assisting the family.


Alice M. Frye

     Alice Frye passed away Monday, February 15, 2010, at the Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster.  Alice Marquerite Grunenwald was born on March 8, 1915, in Livingston, WI, and graduated from Livingston High School. Her first job was as office girl at the Grant County Farm and Asylum, where she met her husband, Frederick Lickel. They married in 1942 and farmed south of Lancaster until his death in 1951. Alice married Earl Frye in 1960, who passed away later that year.  Alice worked for the federal Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for 28 years. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge for 30 years, holding many offices including Grand Noble. She served on the Grant Regional Hospital Auxiliary and United Methodist Women’s Ruth Circle.  Alice was also a power walker in retirement and easily kept up with friends half her age. 

      In addition to her husbands, she is preceded in death by her brother, Harold Grunenwald and sister, Mildred Wepking.

      She is survived by her sister, Marian Griswold, sons: Frederick (Pam) Lickel, Jr. of Madison, and Stanley Lickel of Lancaster, daughter Lois (Bill) Sherwin of Albany, four granddaughters and two  great-grandchildren.

      Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 18, 2010, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 12:00 noon until time of services.  A Rebekah service was held at 1:00 p.m. conducted by the Lancaster Rebekah Lodge No. 167.


Clara M. Fuerstenberg

Clara M. Fuerstenberg, age 95 passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2011 with her children at her side at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison.  She was born September 13, 1915 in Potosi, the daughter of Charles and Mary (Gladding) Cogan.  Clara graduated from Visitation High School, Dubuque, IA in 1933.  She married Clarence O. Fuerstenberg on April 26, 1937 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi.

Clara was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and Court of St. Rita No. 670 Catholic Daughters of America.  She enjoyed quilting with the parish ladies.  Mom loved God, Clarence, family and music.  While Dad was out fishing, Clara was off quilting, singing, playing the accordion, piano or organ.  When Clarence came home from his day of fishing, they went out dancing, together again forever.  We love you both and will miss you dearly.

She is survived by her son Robert (Susanna) Fuerstenberg, Madison and their children Gary (Kelli), Denis (Jenny) and Jill. Five daughters; Judy Fuerstenberg, McLean, VA; Mary Jane Link, Madison and her children Jim (Kathy Finucane) Link and Myda Honaker; Margaret (Ronald) Diehl, Sauk City and their children, Amy Progar, and Kevin; Faye (James) Morse, Mount Horeb and their sons Michael and Jonathan ; and Beth (Albert) Stenner, Madison and their son Kristofer. Her great-grandchildren Collin, Luke, John,  Kathryn, Matthew, Morgan, Daniel (Brandie), David and Joshua (Heather). Two great-great grandchildren, Mason and Sophia. Clara is further survived by her sister Bernadine Leibfried, Hazel Green, and her family, and sister-in-law Bertha Goebel, Dubuque, and many Fuerstenberg nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Clarence on November 20, 1998, and her brothers, Leo (Bernice) and Charlie Cogan, and infant granddaughter, Melissa Morse.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 14, 2011 at 11:00 am at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster, with Fr. William Seipp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.  Friends called on Sunday, March 13, 2011 from 1:00pm until 4:00pm at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, where a 12:45pm parish rosary was held.  Friends also called on Monday from 10:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.

The love and care given to our parents are more than words can say.  Our family wishes to thank the many individuals who assisted Clarence and Clara over the years.  We appreciate the help of Bonnie Pluemer, Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster, the Walnut Grove in Middleton and St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison.  Thanks also to Msgr. Thomas Baxter. 

In lieu of plants and flowers, a Clara M. Fuerstenberg memorial fund has been established.


Harold J. Funk

    Harold J. Funk, age 84, of Lancaster, died Saturday, December 20, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  He was born on February 26, 1924, in Potosi, the son of Michael and Elizabeth (Krepfle) Funk.    He served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and was a lifelong member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster.  Harold married Anita Daumitz and together they farmed for seven years.  He later purchased Rollo Knapp’s trucking company and operated his own business for thirty-five years.  Harold served as a member of the Lancaster City Council and the Lancaster Housing Authority for many years. Harold was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Catholic Knights. He delivered meals to the sick and the elderly.  Harold was an avid euchre player and a great football fan.

       Survivors include his wife, Anita Funk, Lancaster; one son, James (Ellen) Funk, Lancaster; two daughters, Carol (Joe) Chulew, Springfield, VA; Cheryl Funk, Plymouth, MN; five grandchildren: Michele Krupa, Christopher, Paul, Daniel and Jennifer Carl; and eleven great-grandchildren.

       In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Lenz.

       Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 24, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial with military honors were held in St. Clement Cemetery, South Lancaster Township.  Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Wednesday at the church.  Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster served the family.
