Barbara Ann Landon

Barbara Ann Landon, age 63, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, November 17 , 2010, at her residence in rural Lancaster surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on August 27, 1947 in Lancaster, WI, the daughter of Donald and Mildred (Bellis) Bendorf. 

Barb attended Hurricane and Farview rural schools. She graduated from Lancaster High School in 1965, and then attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore and received a degree in Dietary Management.  Barb married Gary W. Landon on October 7, 1995 at the Lancaster United Methodist Church.

She farmed and was employed at the Kroger Grocery Store in Lancaster; owned and operated    B & J’s Custom Casuals; and was employed as the dietary manager for 25 years at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  Barb was the Pigeon Valley 4-H Club leader; a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of America; and a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church.  She taught Sunday school, enjoyed painting, cooking, card club, and going to the casinos.  She dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband Gary, of Lancaster, her children:  Phillip (Holly) Muench, Lancaster; Matthew Muench, Potosi; James (Kelly) Muench, Lancaster; Marie (John) Wamsley, Darlington; Mark (Melissa) Muench, Prairie Du Chien; Ted Landon, Lancaster; and Debbie (Jon) McGrath, Charlotte, NC; 13 grandchildren, and one on the way; her brothers and sisters,:  John (LuAnn) Bendorf, Lancaster; Nancy (John) Poller, Belmont; Marcia (Mike) Shaw, Fond du Lac; Jeff Bendorf , Madison; Paula (Mike) Byers, Blue Mounds; and Rhonda (Marty) Welsh, Mt. Vernon; her mother-in-law, Ruby Landon, Lancaster, and her family; and her former mother-in-law, Helen Muench, Lancaster, and her family. 

Barb was preceded in death by her parents; her father-in-law, Virgil Landon; her former husband, Gary Muench; and her former father-in-law, Leo Muench.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 20, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in the Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Friday, November 19, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.  A Barbara Ann Landon Memorial Fund has been established.  Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.


Jason B. Landon

Jason B. Landon, age 37, of Beetown, passed away Jan. 4, 2012. He was born February 27, 1974 in Lancaster, the son of Larry and June (Arms) Landon. Jason graduated from Lancaster High School in 1993. He attended Southwest Technical College in Fennimore enrolled in the Ag Mechanics course. Together with his twin brother Jeremy, they owned and operated L B Fencing. Jason also operated a logging and dozing business with his brother Josh. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing. Jason felt his work was his hobby, and always walked through life with a smile.

Surviving are his beloved daughters; Amber Landon and Rebecca Giesen. The love of his life, Rachel Hines and her son Tyler; his parents, Larry and June Landon; his twin Jeremy (fiancée’ Jody Laufenberg); brothers, Jamie (Andrea) and Joshua (Jody Schweitzer) Landon; grandmother Wilma Landon, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, Rachel’s parents and family, and his former wife, Misty and her family.

He was preceded by his grandparents; Byron Landon, Eldon and Lois Arms; cousin, Tyler Bausch; uncle, Donald Arms and aunts, Judy (Bill) Haberkorn and Winifred “Ene” Landon.

Funeral services were held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 10:30 am at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Rev. Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in the Beetown Cemetery. Friends called on Sunday, January 8, 2012 from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. at the church and on Monday from 9:30 am until time of services. In lieu of plants and flowers a Jason B. Landon Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.


Lavern E. Langkamp

     Lavern E. Langkamp, age 63, of Madison, formerly of Potosi, died on Friday, January 01, 2010, at HospiceCare Inc., in Fitchburg.  He was born on December 25, 1946, in Dubuque, IA, the son on John and Germaine (Schmitz) Langkamp.  Lavern was employed at American Family Insurance in the mail department.  He was a member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison and enjoyed doing arts and crafts, going to movies, and Very Special Arts.  He also loved watching the Price is Right.

       Survivors include his siblings:  Joe (Sally) Langkamp, Lancaster; Mark (Ann) Langkamp, Lafayette, IN; Jerry (Carol) Langkamp, Westby; John (RuthAnne) Langkamp, Port Orchard, WA; Jim (Kay) Langkamp, Schofield; David Langkamp, Dubuque, IA; Dennis (Cyndi) Langkamp, Mukwonago; Carl Langkamp, Benton; Rose (Bill) Galle, Dubuque, IA; Virginia (Dave) Becker, Dubuque, IA; Jeanette (Greg) Pehler, Oconomowoc; Marilyn (Francis) Ihm, Cassville; Donna (Dick) William, Poplar Grove, IL; Velma Burke, Louisburg, TN; and many nieces and nephews.

      In addition to his parents, Lavern was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Doug Burke and many other family and friends.

       Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church in Madison with Msgr. Michael Burke and Father David Greenfield officiating.  Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Family and friends called on Tuesday, January 5, 2010, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be offered to St. Maria Goretti Church, Madison or the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Inc., Fitchburg.  Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is assisting the family.


Arthur C. Larkin

 Arthur C. Larkin, age 84, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster.  He was born on July 6, 1925, in Jamestown, New York, the son of Joseph and Violet (Chisholm) Larkin. In 1943, he graduated from Lakewood High School in New York.  Arthur enlisted in the United States Army Air Corp and was honorably discharged at the end of World War II.  On August 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Margery F. Willis at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.  Arthur was employed with the Bailey Oil Company and later, Farmer’s Telephone Company.  Arthur was a member of the Congregational Church in Lancaster, where he served as a church officer, the Warren’s Lodge No. 4 of Potosi, the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster and was a former member of the Lancaster Jaycees.  He enjoyed golfing, gardening, and needlepoint.  Arthur was an avid Wisconsin Badger fan, holding season tickets since the 1960’s.

       In addition to his parents, Arthur was preceded in death by his wife, Margery on June 13, 2005.

       Survivors include his two daughters:  Sue (Helmut) Bolk, Delafield and Margee (Matt) Bagley, Platteville; four grandchildren:  Bryan Bolk, Tami Bolk, Andrea Neis, and Celia Neis; other relatives and many friends.

       Funeral services were held on Saturday, October 10, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating.  Burial with military honors was held in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends may call on Saturday, October 10, 2009, from 11:00 am. until time of services at the funeral home.  A Masonic service was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at Schwartz Funeral Home.  In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be offered to the Platteville Special Olympics and the Lancaster Congregational Church.


John J. Larmour

     John J. Larmour, age 81, of Cassville, died peacefully on Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in rural Lancaster after a short battle with cancer.  He was born on June 24, 1927, in Providence, Rhode Island, the son of John and Odilia (Beausoliel) Larmour.  His parents died when he was young and he went to live with his Aunt Dina and her two daughters, Dottie and Ruthie.  They preceded him in death.  John was married for 25 years to Verda Mae (Wilson) Kruger and was a wonderful father to her twin sons, Dale and Gale.  She preceded him in death on December 3, 1984.  He married Mary (Weber) Vosberg on November 23, 1985.  John felt very fortunate to have had not one, but two, wonderful wives in his lifetime.  John was in the military for almost nine years and served overseas during World War II.  He served in the 850th Aviation Engineering Batallion and in the 8th Army Air Force.  He served in France and Germany during the Allied push through Europe.  John was a boilermaker for 20 years.  He then worked as a welder, plumber, and HVAC specialist at John Deere Works for 16 years until his retirement in 1990.  John and Verda Mae owned and operated Kruger’s Supper Club in Cassville for 20 years.

        John was a special dad and grandpa.  He will be remembered for his great stories, his devotion to Verda Mae and Mary, his loyalty to the Cubs and the Green Bay Packers, his love for gardening, his spaghetti sauce, and his good times with friends.

       Survivors include his wife, Mary, Cassville; his children: Dale (Diane) Kruger, Cassville; Gale Kruger, Dalian, China; Jane (the late John) Crotty, South Wayne; Janet (Robert) Eppers, The Villages, Florida; Thomas (Kathleen) Vosberg, Gratiot; grandchildren:  Kristopher, Kevin, and Kenneth Kruger, John and James Kruger, Shelly Beaver, Kim Schiferl, Kerri Bartholf, Lisa Huschke, Mark Eppers, Kristen Aguirre and Elizabeth Daly; 17 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.

       John was also preceded in death by his parents and his twin brother who died as a child.

       Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial with military honors conducted by the VFW Post No. 7080 of Cassville was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.  Friends called on Saturday, April 4, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family.     

        The family requests no flowers.  Because John enjoyed welding, the family plans to create a scholarship for a student attending a vocational school in that field.


Karen M. Latham

     Karen M. (wienkers) Latham, age 71, of Lancaster, died unexpectedly on Saturday, March 13, 2010, at her home.  She was born on June 26, 1938, in Racine, the daughter of Francis and Blanche (Nechvatal) Wienkers.  Karen graduated from Montfort High School in 1956.  She furthered her education at Madison General School of Nursing, graduating in 1959.  On January 11, 1960, she was united in marriage to Roger Latham in Kenosha.  Karen worked in various types of nursing most of her married life.  She was the ideal nurse who truly loved everybody.  Her last twenty-three years of nursing were with Unified Counseling in Lancaster.  Karen was very dedicated and involved in her Catholic faith at St. Clement Catholic Church.

      Survivors include her husband of fifty years, Roger Latham, Lancaster; her children: Kim Latham, Bloomington; Julie (Aaron) Anderson, Phoenix, AZ; three very special grandchildren: Cody, Ashlee, and Amanda Kirschbaum; one extra special great-grandson, Brady Matthew Martin; two sisters: Pat Jones, Mineral Point; Pauline Gay, Monona; four brothers:  Charles Wienkers, Bellingham, WA; Jerry Wienkers, Kenosha; Joe Wienkers, Las Vegas, NV; and Kevin Wienkers, Green Bay.

       In addition to her parents, Karen was preceded in death by a sister, Marilyn Hoffmann and a son, Eric Latham.

       Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 17, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends were welcome on Tuesday, March 16, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Karen M. Latham Memorial Fund has been established.  Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.


Carl R. Lau

     Carl R. Lau, age 85, of Cassville, died on Tuesday, November 11, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on June 6, 1923 in Cassville, the son of Charles and Gertrude (Dresen) Lau. He was drafted into the U. S. Army in 1943 and served until 1946.  He was a private First Class in the 202nd Anti Aircraft Artillery (automatic weapons) Battalion in New Guinea and the southern Philippines, in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater.  He married Ruth Adrian on October 29, 1949 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Carl worked for the Department of Natural Resources at Nelson Dewey State Park.  He was employed from 1951 until his retirement as Head Ranger in 1985.  Carl was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and of the VFW Post 7080 both in Cassville.

     Carl is survived by his wife, Ruth of 59 years, Cassville; his son, John (Debra) Lau, Cassville and his daughter, Julie (Larry) Leonard, Columbus; five grandchildren:  Katie Lau, Grinnell, IA, Maggie (Dan) Kartman, Fennimore, Ashley Lau, LaCrosse, Sean Bonson, Belleville, WI and Sarah Bonson, Canada; one great-granddaughter, Demmy French, Canada; a sister, Retha Bausch, Dubuque, IA and a brother, Fred (Margaret) Lau, LaCrosse.

      He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters; Lucille and Adelaide Lau; five brothers, Virgil, Vincent, Herbert, Chris and Ivan Lau and a great-grandson, Ryker John Kartman.

      Funeral services were held on Friday, November 14, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial with Military Honors was held in St. Mary’s Settlement Cemetery, Cassville Township.  Friends called from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with a Parish Scripture Service at 4:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  


Debra J. Lau

     Debra J. Lau, age 56, of Cassville, died peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, July 26, 2009, at the Finley Hospital in Dubuque.  She was born on June 27, 1953, in Portage, WI, the daughter of Harold and Gladys (Major) Bethke.  Debra graduated from Cassville High School in 1971.  She furthered her education at the University of Wisconsin at LaCrosse where she earned a degree in teaching in 1975.  On July 23, 1977, she was united in marriage to John Lau at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Debra was employed with the Cassville School system from 1979 through the present.  She enjoyed reading, gardening, camping and traveling with friends.  Debra loved spending time with her family and attending her children’s activities.  The students and teachers in Cassville were a very important part of her life.  Debra was an avid Green Bay Packers and Brewers fan.  She was a member of the Cassville Homemakers and the Cassville United Methodist Women’s Group.

       Survivors include her husband, John Lau, Cassville; her children: Katie Lau, Grinnell, IA; Maggie (Dan) K., Fennimore; Ashley Lau, LaCrosse; one granddaughter, Keira K., Fennimore; her parents: Harold and Gladys Bethke, Platteville; her brother and sister: Scott (Dawn) Bethke, Sun Prairie; Jane (Bill) Russell, Verona; and her mother-in-law, Ruth Lau, Cassville; other relatives and many friends.

       She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Carl Lau and a grandson, Ryker K.

       Funeral services were held on Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating and Pastor Mary Ann Floerke assisting.  Burial will be at St. Mary’s Settlement Cemetery, Cassville Township.  Friends called on Wednesday, July 29, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Thursday at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Debra J. Lau memorial fund was established.

Rosetta L. Lau

Rosetta Lucille Lau, age 96, of Cassville, WI, died Thursday, August 4, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on September 3, 1914, in Cassville, the daughter of James and Rosa (Caspers) Dolphin. Rosetta was united in marriage to Leo F. Lau at St. Charles Catholic Church. She was a homemaker as well as a seamstress. Additionally, she was employed at the Sandbar Motel. Rosetta enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, walking the dog and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church.

Rosetta is survived by a daughter, Sharon (Ken) Schauff, Cassville; three grandchildren: Torey (Shannon “Coco”) Schauff, Belleville; Melissa (Chris) Hoffmann, Brooklyn Park, MN; Bridget Schauff, Madison; six great-grandchildren: Alex and Maxwell Schauff, Tyler, Autumn, Trey and Ashlyn Hoffmann; foster child, Cynthia Kauffman Zittlow; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Rosetta was preceded in death by her husband and her four sisters: Leona Heraty, Luella Cody, Colleen Turner, and Helen Biggin.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 8, 2011, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Father John Meinholz and Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Visitation was from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is serving her family.


Ruth E. Lau

     Ruth E. Lau, age 88, of Cassville, died on Friday, January 29, 2010, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster.  She was born on November 12, 1921, in Cassville, the daughter of John and Gertrude (Kirschbaum) Adrian.  She attended country school and graduated from Cassville High School.  On October 29, 1949, Ruth was united in marriage to Carl R. Lau at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Ruth was a seamstress and a devout Catholic.  She was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and its CCW.  Ruth loved spending time with her children and grandchildren and attending their activities.  Ruth was an avid reader and would often clip articles from newspapers and fill in the crossword puzzles.  She loved watching Badger basketball and football.

       Survivors include her children: John Lau, Cassville; Julie (Larry) Leonard, Columbus; five grandchildren:  Katie Lau, Grinnell, IA; Maggie (Dan) K., Fennimore; Ashley Lau, Cassville; Sean Bonson, Verona; Sarah Bonson, Canada; two great-granddaughters, Demmy French, Canada; and Keira K., Fennimore.

      In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Carl on November 11, 2008; her daughter-in-law, Debra Lau on July 26, 2009; a great-grandson, Ryker John K. on May 25, 2007; and her brothers and sisters:  Hubert Adrian, Jack Adrian, Gladys Orcutt and Irene Adrian.

       Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 3, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial was in St. Mary’s Settlement Cemetery, Cassville Township.  Family and friends called on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a scripture services at 4:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville and friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. 


Belva J. Laufenberg

Belva J. Laufenberg, 76, Mt. Hope, passed away on Monday, January 2, 2012, at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. She was born on September 12, 1935, in Wyalusing Township, the daughter of Frank and Mabel (Clark) Ward. Belva graduated from Bloomington High School. On June 28, 1954, she was united in marriage to Carl Laufenberg at St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church in Mt. Hope. After their marriage, the couple raised four daughters in Mt. Hope, where they have resided for the past 57 years. In 1979, Belva began employment as a cook at the West Grant School and remained there until her retirement. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, traveling, fishing, and playing marbles and cards. Belva’s greatest passion was her family. She loved spending time with her immediate as well as extended family and looked forward to family get-togethers. Belva was a member of St. Lawrence O’Toole Catholic Church and was also a member of a bowling league in Prairie du Chien.

Survivors include her loving husband, Carl Laufenberg, Mt. Hope; three daughters, Vickie (Greg) Heiar, Berlin; Sharon (Todd Yeomans) Morgan, Prairie du Chien; Ruth (Thad) McIntosh, Prairie du Chien; six grandchildren, Nicholas Morgan, Correne (Randy) Martin, Miranda (Jermicah) Jackson, Douglas Heiar, Kylie McIntosh, and Devin McIntosh; two great-grandchildren, Anton and Joselynn Jackson; one sister, Irene Ferris, Madison; a sister-in-law, Virginia Ward, Bloomington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Belva was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Betty; her sisters and brother, Marion Gilstrap, Earl Ward and Doris Stanflley.

Funeral services were held on Friday, January 6, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. John’s Catholic Church in Patch Grove with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Lawrence O’Toole Cemetery, Mt. Hope. Family and friends called on Thursday, January 5, 2012, from 4 until 8 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington where a 3:45 p.m. scripture service will be held. Friends may also call on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at St. John’s Catholic Church, Patch Grove.


Orpha M. Laufenberg

     Orpha M. Laufenberg, age 90, of Lancaster died Saturday, January 17, 2009 at the Lancaster Care Center.  She was born on January 13, 1919, the daughter of John and Stella (Atkinson) Klarman in Dubuque, Iowa.  Orpha married her sweetheart, Leo Laufenberg on June 6, 1939 in Dubuque, Iowa.  They lived most of their lives in the Lancaster home that Leo built for Orpha and their children.  She made a career of being a loving wife and devoted mother.  Her family is proud to say that she never retired from this career.

      Orpha enjoyed gardening and had a large and bountiful vegetable garden for years.  She never drove a car but enjoyed going for rides all around Grant County.  In recent years, she had adventures with her daughters in Minneapolis and Charlotte, NC.

       Orpha is survived by her five children:  Gerald (Donna) Laufenberg, Larry (Bonnie) Laufenberg, all of Lancaster; Carolyn (Ron) Howell, Fennimore; Linda Swecker, Dubuque, IA; and Susan (Perry) Ahnen, Lancaster; ten grandchildren:  Cory, Cara, Sara, Jolyn, Tracy, Angel, Nikki, Jason, Candi and Mac; and twelve great-grandchildren. 

       She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leo on May 22, 1994 and her son, Leo “Bobie” on July 19, 1969.

      Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009, at the Lancaster Care Center in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends were welcomed from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the Care Center. 


Dorothy M. Laugesen

Dorothy M. Laugesen, age 94, of Potosi, died on Thursday, October 20, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center. She was bornon December 13, 1916, in Waterloo Township, the daughter of Harry and Ida (Reed) Stoney. Dorothy attended Wamsley School. On February 11, 1937, she was united in marriage to Charles E. Laugesen in Dubuque, IA. After their marriage, Dorothy raised their family in Burton. For a short time, they relocated to Madison and Kenosha, then back to Burton. Dorothy was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Burton, where she also taught Sunday school. She enjoyed quilting, sewing, baking and helping others. Dorothy would often leave pieces of pie for the mailman. She was a 4-H leader and taught children to sew. Dorothy especially enjoyed spending time with her family and taking day trips with Cathy Nix. She also appreciated her handymen, Larry and Kevin, who assisted her with various projects.

Survivors include her four children: Patricia (Art) Altergott, Las Vegas, NV; Ronald (Sally) Laugesen, Los Gatos, CA; Jerome (Beverly) Laugesen, Mt. Hope; Claudia (Gary) Duval, Green Bay; a daughter-in-law, Vicki Laugesen, Dubuque, IA; seventeen grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; two sisters: Hilma Donaldson and Hilda Novinski, both of Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, a son, Dennis, two brothers, Laverne and Dale Stoney; and a sister, Violet Peak.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 24, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial was on Wednesday, October 26, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Sunday, October 23, 2011, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home on Monday.


Helen R. Leeser

      Helen R. Leeser, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Thursday, December 25, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster.  She was born in Burton, WI on September 12, 1922, the daughter of Adam “Ted” and Julia (Elskamp) Mink.  Helen graduated from Lancaster High School in 1940.  After graduation, she worked for Williams Mobil Oil and the Soil Conservation Service.  Helen was united in marriage to Lawrence J. Leeser on June 8, 1944 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  Together they farmed in the Ellenboro area.  After Lawrence’s death on November 27, 1972, she continued to remain active in farming with her sons.  Helen also worked as clerk of Ellenboro Township and at Doll Hardware for many years. 

       She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.  Helen loved farm life and being outdoors where she enjoyed gardening, yard work, feeding birds, hunting mushrooms and squirrel hunting.  She enjoyed taking bus trips with her friends and always had time to help someone.

       She is survived by her three sons:  Ronald (Susan), Gary and Doug Leeser all of Lancaster; one granddaughter, Rebecca (Jack) Andree, Norton Shores, MI; three grandsons, Kirk, Larson, WI, Travis (Amy) and Brett (Teresa) Leeser, both of Rochester, MN; eight great-grandchildren and two step-great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Mary Mink, Prairie du Chien; two special cousins, Joyce Koelker, Cassville and Darlene Potter, Cassville.

      In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence; one sister, Mae Day and six brothers:  Virgil, Leland “Gus”, Donald, Keith, Claude and Herbert Mink.

       Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2008 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Potosi, with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi Township.  Friends called from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2008 at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster where there was a Scripture Service at 2:00 p.m.  Friends also called from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.

       The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the staff at the Lancaster Care Center for the loving care they provided to her these past years.


David D. Lefeber

David D. Lefeber, age 64, of Cassville, died on Wednesday, June 08, 2011, at his home in Cassville. He was born on June 22, 1946, in Johnsburg, the son of Leo and Adeline (Sabel) Lefeber. Dave graduated from New Holstein High School. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville graduating with a degree in elementary education. Dave was a teacher at Potosi for thirty-two years, retiring in 2001. He integrated his love for the outdoors into the classroom. Dave was instrumental in the outdoor education program and developing nature areas and a courtyard, which he used to educate many students. He was a “hands on” teacher. On May 18, 1968, Dave was united in marriage to Gretchen Stoehr at St. Patrick’s Church in Fond du Lac. In 1971, they purchased a farm in Waterloo Township, where he has resided until his death. Dave obtained a Masters Degree in 1975. On April 13, 1985, Dave was united in marriage to Ruth Stern at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi. Dave was a scout leader for over twenty years. He was an avid outdoorsman. Dave enjoyed fishing, camping and gardening. He was a master horticulturalist as well as a master breeder and a nationally recognized breeder of breed standard Wyandotte show chickens. Dave was a humanitarian and had a passion for all he did in life. His greatest love was his family; he truly enjoyed time spent with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Lefeber, Cassville; his children: Chad (Charlie) Lefeber, Blue River; Dana (Matt) Kiederlen, Whitewater; Jeanna (Gary) Grahl, Sturgeon Bay; Judd (Jen) Lefeber, Watertown; Ronna Lefeber, Platteville; Wade Lefeber, Cassville; ten grandchildren: Mujaahid, Andrea, Nicholas, Elizabeth, Cierra, Rylee, Isabella, Abigail, Moriah and Brant; three great-grandchildren; six brothers and three sisters.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents.

To honor Dave’s wishes, there was no services. Dave and his family appreciate those who attended his Celebration of Life Services that were held Sunday, June 5, 2011. Burial will be at a later date. Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is assisting the family.


Catherine Leibfried

Catherine Leibfried, age 104, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, October 1, 2011, at her home. She was born on February 16, 1907, at home in South Lancaster Township, the daughter of Martin and Mary (Dressler) Reynolds. Catherine attended Hurricane School and also St. Clement School during the winter. On November 16, 1925, she was united in marriage to Walter J. Leibfried at St. Clement Catholic Church. Catherine wallpapered many homes and was also employed at Schwartz Phillips Hardware Store as well as Montgomery Ward Catalog. She and her husband owned and operated Creekwood Farms in Lancaster. Catherine was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and a lifetime member of the Catholic Daughters of America Court of St. Rita No. 670. She dearly loved raising her family and devoted herself to them. Catherine enjoyed gardening, sewing, quilting, baking, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.

Survivors include her four daughters: Helen (Donovan) Krohn, Verona; Joan (Leonard) Stitch, Morrisville, PA; Katie (Larry “Laker” Schildgen) Schindler, and Mary (Rodger) Janssen, all of Lancaster; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Catherine was preceded in death by two sons: Robert and Thomas; a brother, Herman “Butch” Reynolds; two sisters: Clara Reynolds and Theresa Ludwig; granddaughter, Sharon Krohn; a nephew, Roger Ludwig; and a special daughter-in-law, Sally Leibfried.

Funeral services were on Friday, October 7, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Friday, October 7, 2011, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Catherine E. Leibfried Memorial Fund has been established with contributions being given to Grant County Hospice and Schreiner Memorial Library for the purchase of audio books. Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.


Denis H. Leibfried

Denis H. Leibfried, age 82, of Potosi, passed away Thursday August 11, 2011. He was born on March 25th, 1929, son of Clarence and Clara (Abing) Leibfried. He married Dolores Winkler on August 8th, 1950 at St. Andrew Church in Tennyson and they just celebrated 61 years of marriage by enjoying a pontoon ride with family & friends on the Mississippi river.

Denis went to work for his Dad after high school at Tennyson Implement and eventually worked and owned the business for over forty years. He worked there with his friend and brother-in-law Earl Friederick. When he wasn’t running the Implement, he operated his own 300 acre farm while also raising ten children.

Denis helped organize St Andrew Choir with some friends soon after high school and sang in this choir for many years. He served as President of Holy Name Society and was usher for St Andrews. He was a member of the Catholic Knights for over 50 years.

He coached the St Andrew basketball team. He started playing softball in the outfield for Tennyson Athletic Club one year out of high school and soon after started pitching. He became one of the best fast-pitch pitchers in the tri-state area and pitched for many teams. He was selected for the Kiwanis Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame and the Dubuque Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame. He was also part of an elite group inducted into the very first Boscobel Fast-Pitch Hall of Fame.

Denis was very witty and never hesitated with a comeback answer for any conversation. (You hot dog) He liked flowers but liked them better in someone else’s yard, so he didn’t have to mow around them.

His hobbies and interests included watching the Yankees on television and bowling on Saturday nights with his wife, family, and friends. He started bowling at a young age and continued to bowl at the age of 82. He also loved fishing, fast-pitch softball, turkey hunting, bowling, deer hunting and the Packers . Denis loved all his children and grandchildren very much and mostly loved to watch them play sports.

Those living to tell the fishing tales are his loving wife of 61 years, Dolores Leibfried, and his 10 children: Alan, Duane (Connie Roderick), Terry, Kevin, Denise (Ladder Stelpflug), Chris (Dan Fiedler), Mary (Brad Saunders) Gerry (Tweet Leibfried), Jane(Shawn O’Brien) and Gary Leibfried. His memory will live on through 23 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren; two sisters: Rita (friend Don) Reinecke and Pat Friederick.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Clara Leibfried, his brother, Donald Leibfried and grandchildren, Kyle and Jeff Leibfried, a brother-in-law, Earl Friederick and a nephew, Paul Reinecke.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 15, 2011, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends called on Sunday, August 14, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Denis H. Leibfried memorial fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is serving the family.


 

Gertrude C. Leibfried

     Gertrude C. “Gertie” Leibfried, age 88, of Lancaster, died on Sunday, September 21, 2008, on the farm where she had spent most of her life, following a brief illness.  She was born on January 25, 1920, in Potosi Township, the daughter of John and Wilhelmina (Abing) Krepfle.  On October 21, 1941, she was united in marriage to Everett C. Leibfried at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  Together they farmed in Ellenboro Township for many years.  Gertie enjoyed gardening, puzzle books, and visiting with all of her family and friends on the phone and everyone that just stopped by to visit.  She was a lifelong member of St. Clement Catholic Church.

     In addition to her parents, Gertie was preceded in death by her husband, Everett on November 17, 2000 and two children: Jackie and an infant daughter.

      Survivors include her children:  Kathy Scott, Des Moines, IA; Rosemary (Jack) Wiedenbeck, Racine; Paul (Sheri) Leibfried, Lancaster; five grandchildren:  Mike (Kelly) Wiedenbeck, Angela (Dr. Scott) Soderquist, Amy (Pat) Castell, Tina (Chad) Eubanks, and Todd Scott;  great-grandchildren: Sara, Jenna, Tyler, Alexander, Justin, Courtney, Nathan, Ella and a baby girl due any day; two sisters: Marie Jentz, Shullsburg; Mabel (Richard) Hafner, Dubuque, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 25, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson.  Friends called on Wednesday, September 24, 2008, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster.  Friends also called on Thursday, September 25, 2008, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services as the church.


Marcella A. "Sally" Leibfried

Marcella A. “Sally” Leibfried, age 76, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, September 29, 2011, as a result of injuries in an automobile accident. She was born on December 11, 1934, the daughter of Arthur and Laura (Kelly) Burggraf. Sally graduated from Lancaster High School. On July 2, 1955, Sally was united in marriage to Robert G. Leibfried. She has enjoyed a long career in banking, which began in Madison and later in Potosi. Sally was employed for over thirty years at the former Lancaster State Bank; now know as M&I, until her retirement. Sally was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster. She enjoyed her flower gardens, gathering black walnuts, and visiting with people. In her retirement, Sally enjoyed summers spent with her husband, Robert, in Northern Wisconsin and was an exceptional care giver to him during his illness.

Survivors include a son, Michael (Skippy) Leibfried, Lancaster; two grandsons: Robert Leibfried of Casper, Wyoming and Kurt Leibfried, Lancaster; her mother-in-law, Catherine Leibfried, Lancaster; sisters: Marita Seitz, Prairie du Chien; Dolores (Jiggs) Hampton, Lancaster, and sister-in-law, Dot Burggraf of Cave Creek, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Sally was preceded in death by her brothers, Norbert and Arnold (Dolores) Burggraf and a brother-in-law, Frank Seitz.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, October 4, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Monday, October 3, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Marcella A. Leibfried memorial fund has been established.


Robert G. Leibfried

Robert G. “Bob” Leibfried, age 79, of Lancaster, Wisconsin died on November 12, 2009 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa.  He was born on April 17, 1930, in Potosi Wisconsin, the son of Walter and Catherine (Reynolds) Leibfried.  On July 2, 1955 he married Marcella “Sally” Burggraf at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, Wisconsin.

      In 1947, he enlisted in the Marines and celebrated his 18th birthday in China.  He served in the 1st Marine Division from 1947 to 1949 in the China communist takeover and 1950 to 1952 in the Korean conflict.  After returning from service he was employed at Farley and Loetecher in Dubuque, Iowa.  After the plant closed he became the building engineer and plant operator at Lancaster Memorial Hospital and enjoyed 26 years in that position.  He considered the hospital employees his extended family.  He also was morning and athletic bus driver for 19 years for the Lancaster School System.

      In 1982 he was diagnosed with Wegeners Vasculitis (inflammation of the small blood vessels).  Vasculitis affects the vital organs and in 1987 he suffered complete kidney failure.  He was on home dialysis until March 5, 1988 when at UW Madison Hospital he received “The Gift of Life” which was a donated cadaver kidney from an anonymous lady who died March 4, 1988.  It was a successful transplant.

      He was a member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster and the North China Marine Association and he was a former member of the Lancaster Fire Department.

      He enjoyed hunting and fishing trips to Canada with his son, Mike in earlier years.  In later years he spent many hours watching history documentaries.  He always accepted life as it was handed to him and was uncomplaining.

     He is survived by wife, Sally.  One loving son, Michael R and wife Skippy who was a very special person in his life.  two grandsons, Robert M. of Casper Wyoming and Kurt W. who were the center of his life.  His mother, Catherine, four sisters: Catherine “Kate” (Larry “Laker” Schildgen) Schindler, Mary (Rodger) Janssen, all of Lancaster.  Helen (Donavan) Krohn, Verona, Wisconsin and Joan (Leonard) Stich, Morrisville, Pennsylvania.

     He is also survived by his sister-in-laws Marita Seitz, Praire du Chien, Wisconsin, Dolores (Jiggs) Hampton, Lancaster, Wisconsin and brother-in-law Norbert (Dot) Burggraf of Cave Creek, Arizona and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his father, Walter, brother, Thomas and niece, Sharon Krohn, his father and mother-in-law, Arthur and Laura (Kelly) Burggraf, brother-in-law, Frank Seitz, brother and sister-in-law, Arnold (Dolores) Burggraf.

     He was most grateful for the loving care and thoughtfulness of wife Sally and the support of his entire family.

     Funeral services were held on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Fr. William Seipp officiating.  Private family burial with military honors was in the St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster at a later date.  There was no public visitation prior to the funeral service.  Family and friends were invited to a reception following the funeral in the St. Clement Gymnasium. 

     Memorials may be given to the Wisconsin Kidney Foundation in memory of Bob Leibfried.

      Bob had care from the medical field that was second to none.  How proud and grateful we are to the staff at Grant Community clinic, Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster and Tri State Dialysis in Platteville, WisconsinCompassion was shown at a place he worked for so many years.  They were like his extended family. 


Melvin J. Leindecker

Melvin J. Leindecker, age 79, of Potosi, died on Wednesday, July 20, 2011, at his home in Potosi.  He was born on May 13 1932, in Lancaster, the son of Henry and Rose (Atkinson) Leindecker.  Melvin grew up in the Lancaster area. He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean Conflict, and upon his return and Honorable discharge, married Charlotte Starr.  Melvin enjoyed his daily card game at the Roadhouse with his friends. He was a Green Bay Packer fan, played golf, threw horseshoes, and liked to fish.

Surviving are his children, Ada (James) Davidson, South Beloit, IL, Melvin (Cindy Cisewski) Leindecker Jr., Beloit, WI, Charmel (Gerald) Jacobs, Rockton ,IL, JoAnn (David) Stanley, Machesney Park, IL, and Julie Leindecker, South Beloit, IL; many loving grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins; a sister, Mary Lou (Donald) Phillips, Beloit; a brother-in-law, Charles Tracy, Janesville; and sister-in-law, Evelyn Leindecker, South Beloit, IL.

He was preceded in death by his former wife Charlotte, brothers; Albert (Mamie Lou), William, Robert, his sister Darlene Tracy and a son-in-law C. Mark Hayes.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, July 23, 2011 at 11:00am at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster. Burial with military honors was in the Hillside Cemetery.  Friends called on Saturday July 23, 2011 from 9:00 am until time of services at the funeral home.


Lyle W. Lenz

     Lyle W. Lenz, age 89, of Lancaster, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009 at Orchard Manor, rural Lancaster, WI.  He was born on May 21, 1920, the son of Albert and Dorthea (Peters) Lenz in Stitzer, WI.  Lyle enlisted into the U. S. Army in 1942 until 1945, serving in Europe and Africa.  He received six battle stars, five overseas service bars, European-African Middle Eastern Theater ribbon with one silver and one bronze battle star, good conduct medal, the Bronze Star and the WWII Victory medal.  After his honorable discharge, he traveled west to California and back to Chicago where he opened his own garage and remained there from 1951 until 1992.  Lyle enjoyed his horses and harness racing as well as fishing.  He also tried to coach the Cubs to a pennant.

       Lyle is survived by his daughter, Susanne (Fred) Cassara, Melrose Park, IL; four grandchildren:  Susan, Ronald, Julie and Lyle III.; seven great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Mary Lenz, Las Vegas; two sisters:  Dorthea Beechey, Boaz and Elizabeth Florine, Lombard, IL; many nieces and nephews including his special nephew, Francis (Sandy) Lenz, Lancaster.

       He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons:  Harlen and Lyle, Jr. “Butch” and two brothers, Albert and Donald.

       Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Chuck Miller officiating.  Burial with Military Honors was held at Liberty Ridge Cemetery, Liberty Ridge Township, WI.  Family and friends were welcome from 11:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the funeral home.


Carl Chapin Logemann

     Carl Chapin Logemann, 50, of Lancaster died on Monday, March 24, 2008 of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.  He has now given the gift of life to others through organ and tissue donation.  He was born in Freeport, Illinois on October 27, 1957, the son of Stanley and Jean (Chapin) Logemann.  He was raised in Stockton, Illinois and Monroe, Wisconsin.  He attended Stockton Elementary and Middle School.  Carl was a 1975 graduate of Monroe High School and a 1979 graduate of UW-LaCrosse with a BS in Education.  He received his MSEd from UW-Platteville in 1992.  He was a beloved teacher for his entire career.  He taught Physical Education for the Dakota School District from 1980-1981.  He then taught physical education, health, and driver education in the Gilmanton School District from 1981-1986.  He has been teaching health and physical education for the Lancaster School District since 1986.  Carl was an adored coach of football, basketball and baseball.  His love for basketball was his identity and he was affectionately known by his players as “C Loges”.  Carl has been a fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bulls his entire life.  This love led him to his summer job as a driver for Tri-State Tours in Galena, Illinois.

      On August 6, 1982 he was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Mary Kathryn “Mary Kay” Klarer at St. Victor Catholic Church in Monroe.  They lived in Eau Claire, Mondovi, and have been a part of the Lancaster community for over twenty years.  Carl was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church where he served as an usher.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #2820 and the Wisconsin Basketball Association. 

      Carl dedicated his life to his students and to his wife and two children, Jonathan and Teresa Logemann.  Carl’s greatest joy was being a dad and a great dad he was.  He enjoyed coaching his children in basketball, softball and baseball and was their greatest fan.  Jonathan is a student at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Teresa is a student at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

      Carl is survived by his wife of 25 years, Mary Kay, his loving children, Jonathan and Teresa; his mother, Jean Logemann of Stockton, Illinois; his brothers and sister:  Bill (Anne) Logemann of Bellevue, Iowa; Lynne (Kerry) George of Ankeny, Iowa; Elaine Enriquez of Stockton, Illinois; and Clark (Martha) Logemann of Rockford, Illinois. He is also survived by his brothers-in-law:  Fr. Michael Klarer of Monroe; and Patrick (Mary Alice Harris) Klarer of Verona; and his sister-in-law, Ellen (Mike) Malkow of Monroe.  He was a favorite uncle of his nieces and nephews Jeremiah Logemann, Christopher George, Jessica Zabel, Eli Logemann, Andrew Logemann, Jennifer Malkow, and Christopher Malkow.   He was preceded in death by his father, Stanley Logemann in 1974. 

      A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, March 28, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with his brother-in-law, Fr. Michael E. Klarer, Fr. William Seipp, Monsignor Thomas Baxter, and Father Kent Schmidt officiating.  The visitation was held on Thursday, March 27, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Private family burial was in Calvary Cemetery in Monroe. 


Pamela S. Lolwing

     Pamela S. Lolwing, age 53, of Bagley, passed away on Monday, November 30, 2009, at Prairie Memorial Hospital, Prairie du Chien. 

       Memorial services were held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Father Bart Timmerman officiating.  Burial was in Bagley Cemetery, Bagley.  Friends called on Friday, December 4, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Saturday

       She was born on August 16, 1956, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Charles and Helen (Schumann) Lester.  Pamela attended Sacred Heart Grade School and graduated from Hempstead High School in Dubuque, IA, in 1975.  On August 13, 1988, Pamela was united in marriage to Dennis A. Lolwing at the Arboretum in Dubuque, IA.  She was employed in the medical field as a secretary, clerk, registrar and most recently, with the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.  Pamela was employed with the Finley Hospital in Dubuque, IA for twenty one years in various departments.  She also worked for Dodge Street Anesthesiologists PC, United Clinical Laboratories, starting her work experience at the Dubuque Boys Club.  Pamela took great joy in baking and distributing her goodies to neighbors and friends. 

       Survivors include her husband, Dennis Lolwing, Bagley; her siblings: Rick Lester, Dubuque, IA; Robert “Joe” (Judy) Lester, Epworth, IA; Tina (Rick) Tittle, Dubuque, IA; nieces and nephews.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Sharon, and a brother, Jeff.

       Denny and the family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff of Gunderson Lutheran Hospital and Clinic in LaCrosse and Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital and Gunderson Lutheran Clinic in Prairie du Chien for their loving care, thoughts, prayers and cards.  A Pamela S. Lolwing memorial fund has been established.

       Gone, yet not forgotten.  Although we are apart, your spirit lives within me, forever in my heart.


Edith E. Long

    Edith E. Long, age 98, of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Bagley, died Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien.  She was born June 12, 1909 in Patch Grove Township, WI, the daughter of Frank and Elta (Pendleton) Ellis.  Edith graduated from Patch Grove High School.  On January 17, 1927, she married William Long in Dubuque, IA.  He preceded her in death on July 2, 1951.  Edith served as the treasurer for the Town of Wyalusing for 22 years.  She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and watching hummingbirds.  Edith was a wonderful mother and “great” grandmother and dearly loved her family.  Everyone enjoyed Sunday dinners at Grandma’s. 

     She is survived by four children:  Donna (Richard) Kaufman, Prairie du Chien; Dorothy Lester, Dubuque, IA; James Long, Bagley; and John (Carol) Long, Potosi; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren; one sister, Florence Kozelka, Prairie du Chien; a daughter-in-law, Madonna Long, Prairie du Chien; a son-in-law, Charles Enke, Prairie du Chien; and many nieces and nephews.

     She was also preceded in death by her son, Donald Long; two daughters:  Irene Enke and Darlene Long; five brothers:  Burr, Herbert, Donald, Clifford, and Oscar Ellis; and her sister, Frances Pankoff.

     Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 22, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating.  Burial was in Union Nagle Cemetery, Patch Grove Township.  Friends called on Saturday, March 22, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.


Rudolf E. “Rudy” Long

     Rudolf E. “Rudy” Long, age 53, of Glen Haven died unexpectedly on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 at his home.  He was born on April 7, 1954, in Germany, and was an only child of Rudolph A. and Helma K. (Jantzen) Long.  He graduated from high school in Granby, MA and married Donna Ertel on December 18, 1978.  He was a retired major in the U.S. Army.  Over the years, he was stationed at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Ft. Meade, Maryland; Ft. Devens, Massachusetts; and Seaford, Delaware.  Rudy was currently employed as a lean manufacturing engineer at MPC in Prairie du Chien.  He loved to play drums, ride his Harley, ride ATVs, and was an avid NASCAR fan.

     Survivors include his wife, Donna Long, Glen Haven; a son, Matthew (Jennifer) Long, Cascade, IA; his mother-in-law, Ruth Ertel, Prairie du Chien; sisters-in-law, Diane (Bryon) Meyer, Verona; Joyce Mumm, Beetown; and Teresa (Kurt) Jaynes, Prairie du Chien; aunts and uncles:  Guy Long and Monica McCarthy, both of Hartford, CT; and Clairette Meagher, Mooers Forks, NY; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his son, Ryan, who was killed in action in Iraq on April 3, 2003; both parents; his father-in-law, Patrick B. Ertel; and brother-in-law, Joseph B. Ertel.

     Funeral services were held on Monday, March 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father Jim Warosh officiating.  Burial with military honors was Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township.  Visitation was held on Monday from 9:00 a.m until the time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials to the Ryan Long Scholarship Fund are appreciated.


Frances B. Lorenz

     Frances B. Lorenz, age 85, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster.  She was born in Platteville on February 25, 1924, the fourth of five daughters born to John and Lucile (Farr) Buser.  Fran graduated from Platteville High School in 1941.  On April 17, 1948, she was united in marriage to Robert Lorenz at the First Methodist Church in Platteville.  They were blessed with a daughter, Mary Lucile on October 19, 1949, who died in infancy.  The couple was married nearly thirty years before Robert’s sudden death in 1976.  Fran was employed for over sixty-seven years by the Grant County Abstract Office and worked until just a few months ago.  She was an active member of the Bethlehem Evangelical and Reformed Church of Lancaster.  Fran loved reading, working, watching old movies, traveling and spending time with her family.  She was known for her smile, her laugh, and her love of life and was dearly loved by many.

       Fran is survived by her many nieces and nephews, to whom she was a second mother and grandmother.  They include:  Victoria Krohn, Verona; Cheryl Bingham, Mt. Horeb; Judith (Robert) Drousth, Madison; Steven (Laura) Hall, Brooklyn; John Munson, Lancaster; Nancy (Rick) Sedbrook, Potosi; great nieces and nephews: Bryan Bingham, Sarah (Craig) Jordan, Jason (Deanna) Bingham, Margaret Krohn, Amy (Andy) Pennekamp, Steven Sedbrook, Nicholas Drousth, Alexander Drousth, Natalie, Nicole and Nathan Hall; and ten great-great nieces and nephews.  She is further survived by four nieces and a nephew on Robert’s side of the family.

       Fran was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Bob, her daughter Mary Lu, and her sisters:  Margaret (Howard) Spiegel, Dorothy (Wilmer) Corlett, Elizabeth “Bette” (George) Hall and Carol (Douglas) Munson.

       Funeral services were held on Monday, September 21, 2009, at 10:00 a.m. at the Bethlehem E&R Church in Lancaster with Rev. Mark Dieter officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Sunday, September 20, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church on Monday.  The family suggests memorials be given to the Bethlehem E&R Church or the Bethlehem E&R Church Window Fund.


Genevieve M. Losch

    Genevieve M. Losch, age 93, of Lancaster died Friday, February 29, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  She was born on March 2, 1914 in Lima Township, WI; the daughter of William and Cordelia (Holzer) Sherwin.  She attended Franklin School in Lima Township through the eighth grade.  After her mother’s premature death, Gen raised her siblings and took care of her father until her marriage.  On February 5, 1934, she married Dorman Losch in Galena, IL.  The couple settled on his father’s farm in Little Grant Township and farmed there for 44 years.  She belonged to the Stitch & Chat Sewing Club in Little Grant for over 40 years.  After her husband’s death, Gen moved to Lancaster.  She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, the Catholic Daughters of America, and the CCW.  Gen enjoyed her card group, senior citizens’ pot lucks, and playing bingo and cards.  She was also a wonderful baker and homemaker.

     She is survived by three children:  Beverly Fishnick, Donald (Sherry) Losch, and Rosemary (Mark) Wolf, all of Lancaster; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, nine great-great grandchildren; and two sisters:  Frances Reuter, Platteville; and Helen Cooley, Lancaster.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Dorman, on April 15, 1978; her parents; and her brothers, Clarence, Raymond, Guerdon, and Donald Sherwin.

     Funeral services were held on Monday, March 3, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Visitation was held on Monday, March 3, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. 


Roger W. Ludwig

    Roger W. Ludwig, age 64, passed away on Monday, February 4, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  He was born on December 16, 1943 in Cook County, IL; the son of William and Theresa (Reynolds) Ludwig.  Roger graduated from Barrington, IL High School and attended the University of Illinois.  He served in the United States Marine Corps Reserves.  Roger moved to Lancaster in 1976.  Roger was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  He enjoyed doing artwork, hunting, fishing, and golfing.  Roger loved spending time at the Lancaster Country Club and was well-known there.

     He is survived by his mother, Theresa Ludwig, Tucson, AZ; his aunt, Catherine Reynolds Leibfried, Lancaster; and five cousins:  Helen (Donovan) Krohn, Verona; Robert (Sally) Leibfried, Lancaster; Joan (Leonard) Stich, Morrisville, PA; Katie (Laker Schildgen) Schindler, Lancaster; and Mary (Rodger) Janssen, Lancaster.

     Roger was preceded in death by his father, William, his uncle, Walter Leibfried, and his cousin, Tom Leibfried.

     Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Visitation was held on Thursday, February 7, 2008 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to Schreiner Memorial Library in Lancaster. 


Dr. Thomas B. Lundeen

     Dr. Thomas Bailey Lundeen, age 78, of Platteville died Monday, January 26, 2009 at his home.  He was born on March 31, 1930 in Mediapolis, Iowa, the second son of Carl and Mary Elizabeth (Bailey) Lundeen.  Graduating from the Mediapolis Schools, he later took Bachelor of Arts, Master of Arts, and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of Iowa.  Tom was a professor of history at the University of Wisconsin – Platteville for forty years.  In 1968, he was elected the Outstanding Professor of the Year by University faculty and students and in 1995, he was honoured by the Teaching Excellence Award of the College of Liberal Arts and Education.  Tom was a National Endowment for the Humanities Fellow at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1975.  As University historian, he researched and wrote on campus and regional history.  Tom was a world traveler and guest taught in the 1970’s and 1980’s in England.  In 2003, the campus Little Theater was renamed the Thomas B. Lundeen Lecture Hall where he lectured for many years.   He was also inducted into the College of Liberal Arts and Education at University of Wisconsin - Platteville on October 14, 2005 and joined the University of Iowa’s President’s Club.  Tom was active in many campus, state, national and international organizations, including the following:  Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and past president of the same, Phi Alpha Theta Historical Society, Phi Eta Sigma Honor Society, Delta Upsilon International Fraternity, Point of Beginning Tourism Commission Board of Directors, Wisconsin Shakespeare Festival Board of Directors, UW-Platteville Foundation Board of Directors, Wisconsin State Historical Society, Grant County Historical Society and past president of the same, Wisconsin Academy of Sciences, Arts and Letters, a life member of the University of Iowa Alumni Association and the Old Gold Club, Pioneer Booster Club, Friends of Canterbury Cathedral in America, the Victorian Society, many historic preservation organizations and usher and lector at Trinity Episcopal Church in Platteville. 

           Tom is survived by his brother, Eugene Carl, Boulder, CO; six nieces and nephews; eleven grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his very special friends, Helen Brodbeck and Eric Schambow and many other dear friends.

           He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Elizabeth Lundeen Miller, Olds, Iowa in 1981 and grand-nephew, Sam Bohmann Lundeen, Boulder, CO in 1995.

           A Memorial Service was held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at Trinity Episcopal Church in Platteville with the Rev. Diane Markevitch officiating.  Immediately following the service, a time of fellowship and luncheon was held at UW-Platteville, Ullsvik Center, Velzy Commons; everyone was welcome to join us for this time of remembrance.  The burial of cremains will be interred at Memorial Park Cemetery, Burlington, Iowa at a later date.  In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests memorials be made to the UW-Platteville Foundation.  The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville is serving the family. 


Beulah M. Lyman

Beulah M. Lyman, age 98, of Potosi, died on Saturday, November 27, 2010, at Living Oaks Assisted Living in Iola, WI.  She was born on January 23, 1912, in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of Chester and Mae (Pape) Reed.  Beulah married Fred Lyman on June 26, 1952, in Albuquerque, New Mexico.  He died on July 12, 1981.  She was a member of the Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi and participated in its Ruth Circle.  Beulah loved her flower gardens and doing arts and crafts.  She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star and a Shriner Lady. 

Surviving are many nieces and nephews from the Humbert, Reed, and O’Connell families and many members from the Lyman family.

In addition to her parents and her husband, Beulah was preceded in death by a brother, Lloyd Reed, and two sisters: Irene O’Connell and Ethel Reed.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at 1:30 p.m. at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi with Pastor Barbara Dunlap-Wolfe officiating.  Burial was in the Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi.  Family and friends called on Sunday from 11:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Martin Funeral Home in Potosi is assisting the family.
