Margaret M. Pafford

     Margaret M. Pafford, age 84, of Lancaster, joined our Lord on Friday, May 16, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  She was born on December 19, 1923, in Madison, the daughter of Harold and Rowena (Biggin) McBurney.  Margaret graduated from Bloomington High School and continued her education at the University of Wisconsin at Platteville.  On October 31, 1942, she was united in marriage to James H. Pafford on the family farm at Muscallounge Road, Beetown Township.  Together they farmed for thirteen and a half years on Margaret’s grandparent’s farm in the area between Beetown and North Andover.  In 1956 they moved to rural Lancaster.  She attended the Bethlehem E&R Church.  Margaret loved  anything that involved her family, working in her flower garden and traveling.

            Survivors include her children: Gloria Trybe, Ft. Collins, CO; Marcia (Dennis) Vincent, Lancaster; James Jr. (Colleen) Pafford, Marquette, MI; Bernie (Valeta) Pafford, Berkley Heights, NJ; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; her sister: Gertrude Oshman, Deforest; many nieces and nephews.

            In addition to her parents, Margaret was preceded in death by her husband, a granddaughter, Angela Vincent, a great-grandson, Ryan Vincent and a sister, Barbara Harris.

Funeral services were held on Monday, June 2, 2008 at 11:00am at the Bethlehem Evangelical & Reformed Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was in Dodge Cemetery.  Friends called on Monday, June 2, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. 


Gary P. Pape

Gary P. Pape, age 63, of Cassville, died on Wednesday, April 27, 2011, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA.  He was born on October 21, 1947, in Dubuque, IA, the son of Paul and Eileen (Winner) Pape.  Gary graduated from Dubuque Senior High School.  He then pursued a career as a professional musician.  His talent was singing and playing the guitar with the Ridge Runners and Muddy Hollow bands.  In 1973, Gary moved to Cassville.  He was most recently employed at Cabela’s in Prairie du Chien as an outfitter.  Gary was an avid hunter and fisherman.  He enjoyed shooting trap at the Cassville Conservation Club.  Gary also taught hunter’s education courses.

Survivors include his brother, Gene (Linda) Pape, Dyersville, IA; his sister, Margie Pape, Cassville; special friend, Susan Hedley, Patch Grove; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Joan Lammers and a brother-in-law, Ambrose “Pete” Lammers.

A celebration of life was held on Monday, May 2, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Father John Meinholz officiating.  Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.  Family and friends called on Monday, May 2, 2011, from 12:00 noon until time of services at the funeral home.


Diana J. Pasold

     Diana J. Pasold, age 68, of Rockford, IL formerly of Bagley, WI died November 15, 2008 at the home of her son in Rockford.  She was born January 30, 1940 in Potosi, WI, the daughter of Harry and Virginia (Pickett) Schiffman.  On April 23, 1960, she was united in marriage to Robert C. Pasold at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster, WI. 

      Diana endured a constant battle of many health issues for many years.  With a great deal of compassion as a caring wife, mother, grandma, sister and in-law, she always wished her family and friends were happy and full!  Diana was involved in many activities as she worked as a laborer in many fields of business manufacturing, cleaning services, and as a senior caregiver.   She loved fishing, boating, and beaching. Diana learned from her mother cooking, crafting, quilting and gardening.  She loved fun and games, cards, and dice. Diana was an avid supporter of the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.

     Surviving is a son, Sheldon (Naomi) Pasold, Rockford, IL; two grandsons:  Derek Pasold, Tulsa, OK and Brandon Pasold, Rockford, IL; four brothers, Don (Eileen) Schiffman, Bagley, Doug (Marion) Schiffman, Cassville, David (Connie) Schiffman, Rockford, IL and Dick (Shirley) Shiffman, Potosi; three sisters; Darlene O’Farrell, Riverside, CA, Sharlene (James) Udelhoven, Tennyson and Debbie Dirksen, Rockford, IL and many, many nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on April 21, 2006 as well as one sister, Eileen Tracy and a brother, Dale Schiffman.

     Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Visitation was held on Tuesday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home


Luella E. Patcle

     Luella E. Patcle, age 93, of Potosi, died Wednesday, June 11, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  She was born on April 6, 1915 in Potosi Township, WI, the daughter of Leo and Dora (Duve) Leeser.  Luella graduated from St. Andrew High School.  On September 28, 1937, she married John Patcle at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi.  He preceded her in death on May 27, 1969.  Luella worked for many years as a nurse’s aid at Lancaster Memorial Hospital and she also farmed with her husband until his death in rural Potosi.  Luella liked to dance, travel, crochet, knit, sew, and play cards. 

     She is survived by three children:  Dorothea (Carl) Blindert, John (Cheryl) Patcle, and Louis (Yolonda) Patcle, all of Potosi; her special friend, Russell Kasparek, Lancaster; 13 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Bernice Leeser, Potosi; and Mabel (Merlin) Brandt, Potosi; and a brother-in-law, Frank (Helen) Patcle, Potosi.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; one granddaughter at birth; her great-grandson, Brad Welter; and her brother, Joe Leeser.

     Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was in St. Thomas Cemetery, Potosi. Visitation was held on Saturday, June 14, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Luella E. Patcle memorial fund has been established.


Michael G. Patterson

Michael G. Patterson, age 58, of La Salle, IL, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at the OSF St. Francis Hospital in Peoria, IL.

Michael was born on September 29, 1953, in Elgin, IL, a son of Robert & Muriel (Osbon) Patterson. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University, graduating with a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education. He later attended Northern Illinois University, receiving a Master’s Degree in Computer Science.

Michael worked for IBM and later for AT&T as a computer programmer.

He loved rock music and playing his electric bass guitar.

Michael is survived by his children, Ian (Michelle) Patterson of Lewisburg, VA and Sara Patterson of Greenwood, IN; fiancée, Janice Ramoino of Spring Garden, IL; parents, Robert and Muriel Patterson of Lancaster; grandchildren, twins Katelynn & Victoria Patterson, Alexander Patterson, Isabel Patterson, and one more on the way; sister, Mary List of Galena, IL; and a niece, Audrey List of Galena, IL.

Funeral Services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday , January, 12, 2012, at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster, with Pastor Mark Dieter officiating. Burial was in Windridge Memorial Park in Cary, IL, at 1 pm on Friday, January 13. Friends may call from 11:30 a.m. until the time of services on Thursday at the funeral home.


Loris K. Paulus

Loris K. Paulus, age 72, of Bloomington, died on Thursday, September 15, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. She was born on February 4, 1939, in Mt. Ida Township, the daughter of John R. and Hattie M. (McGraw) Clark. She graduated from Mt. Hope High School in 1956. On September 19, 1957, Loris was united in marriage to Charles J. Paulus at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington. She was employed as a secretary for Hermsen Hardware Store for thirty years, retiring in January of 2009. Loris was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and was a chairperson for various activities the church held. She enjoyed singing, playing the piano, cooking, gardening, playing cards, walking and bowling. Loris also enjoyed going for rides with her husband. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family and attending her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include her loving husband, Charles Paulus, Bloomington; children: Dennis (Judy) Paulus, Bloomington; Kris (Jeff) Reuter, Lancaster; John (Cathie) Paulus, Chisago City, MN; Jo Marie (Bill) Moore, Dubuque, IA; Cynthia Paulus, Clear Lake, IA; son-in-law, Mark Moris, Bloomington; ten grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; sisters: Rosemary (Neil) Kuenster, Lancaster; Sharon (John) Fassbender, Middleton; sister-in-law, Jeanette Clark, Prairie du Chien; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends.

Loris was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Amy Moris, and her brothers, Harry and Royce Clark.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, September 20, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends called on Monday, September 19, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. where a 3:45 p.m. scripture service was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Friends also called on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services all at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Loris K. Paulus Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.


Phyllis I. Payne

     Phyllis I. Payne, age 88, of Lancaster died Saturday, March 1, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  She was born on September 27, 1919 in Wyalusing Township, WI, the daughter of Abraham and Elma (Woodman) Key.  Phyllis attended Brodtville Grade School and Brunson country school.  She graduated from Patch Grove High School, where she was an avid student and excelled in all subjects.  She moved to Lancaster in 1938, and on August 18, 1940 married Bernard “Bernie” Payne.  He preceded her in death on June 22, 1997.  For more than thirty years, she was employed by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.  During most of that time, she served in the role of chief clerk/chief program assistant for the Grant County USDA office.  Phyllis enjoyed her work greatly, had a distinguished work record, and was widely known and respected by farmers throughout the area for her efficiency and dedication.  She retired in 1981.  Following the death of her husband, she took over his advertising business and managed it for many years. 

     Phyllis loved living in the community of Lancaster and took great pleasure in meticulously maintaining her beautiful old home on Elm Street.  She was a member of the United Methodist Church and was blessed with many special friends, neighbors, and relatives.  She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. 

     She is survived by her son, Douglas Payne, Junction City; her daughter Cheryl (Michael) Murphy, Green Bay; her sister, Lucille (Lyle) Bellrichard, Lancaster; three granddaughters:  Dawn Byrum, Waupaca; Nissa Rasmussen, New York City; and Chelsea Rasmussen-Collins, Los Angeles; her great-granddaughter, Amanda Byrum; and many nieces and nephews.

     In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers:  Virgil, Kenneth, Keith, and Russell Key; and her sisters:  Ivanelle Murray and Laura Key.

     Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in Prairie Cemetery, Fennimore.  Friends called on Tuesday from 12:00 noon until the time of services at the funeral home.


Donald G. Peake

     Donald G. Peake, age 68, of Lancaster, passed away at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, South Lancaster Township, on Wednesday, December 2, 2009, after a battle with Lymphoma cancer.  He was born in Lancaster, on February 19, 1941, the son of Glenn and Bertha (Wieland) Peake.  Due to his mother’s illness, his grandmother, Martha (Behnke) Wieland helped raise him in childhood.  Donald was a 1959 graduate of Lancaster High School.  He earned a bachelor’s degree in secondary education from UW-Platteville in 1963.  For thirty-four years, he taught social studies and English at Potosi Community Schools.  On October 10, 1986, Donald was united in marriage to Virginia Edge at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.  He was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church serving as an usher, greeter, Sunday school teacher, and lay reader.  He also freely associated with the congregation of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster, serving as an usher, greeter and lay reader.  In retirement, he was a member of the Platteville Area Retired Educators Association, served as a volunteer Bingo caller at Orchard Manor for the Christ Lutheran Church women’s group, and was a volunteer at the Passages Thru Time Museum in Potosi.  Donald was an avid Packers, Badgers, Brewers and Flying Arrows Football fan.

       Survivors include his wife, Virginia Peake, Lancaster; his son, Bryan Peake, Lancaster; his mother-in-law, Carol Edge, Platteville and many cousins.

       In addition to his parents, Donald was preceded in death by his father-in-law, John Edge, his brother-in-law, Douglas Edge and aunts, uncles, cousins, including a special aunt, Edna Cummins.

       Funeral services were held on Saturday, December 5, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Reverend David Froemming officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Friday, December 4, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday at the church.

       The family suggests that in lieu of plants and flowers, memorials be made to the family where a scholarship for Potosi students will be set up at a later time along with other favorite charities of the family.


Joyce Pennekamp

     Joyce Pennekamp, age 60, of Potosi, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Monday, November 2, 2009 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.  She was born on February 11, 1949, the daughter of Lavern and Dorothy (Buss) Noel in Dubuque , Iowa .  She graduated from Potosi High School in 1967.  Joyce was united in marriage to Donald Pennekamp on September 3, 1966 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi . 

       Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, wood refinishing, fishing, coon hunting, ginseng and mushroom hunting, the outdoors and last but not least, going to the dog track.  She also liked baking, canning, crocheting, and helping people.  Joyce loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

     Joyce is survived by her husband, Donald, Potosi; five children:  Tim (Stacy) Pennekamp, Potosi, Jeremy (Jennifer) Pennekamp, Cobb, Laura (Aaron) Digman, Platteville, Sarah (Brad) Digman, Platteville and Rachel (Luke) Longhenry, Madison; 13 grandchildren:  Sydney, Alexandria, Noah, Nickolas, Caden, Hannah, Skye, Devin, Caleb, Alayna, Jace, Lauren and Jenna; her twin sister, Judy Noel, Lancaster; two brothers:  Tom (Karen) Noel, DeSoto and John (Deb) Noel, Beetown; her sister, Brenda (Dennis) Watters, Lancaster; nieces, nephews, and many special friends.

       She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-father, Donald Oates; her son, Tommy; her sister, Suzanne and her brother, Steven.

     Funeral services were held on Friday, November 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Reverend Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was at the church cemetery.  Visitation was held from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Thursday, at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with a Scripture Service at 3:00 p.m.  Friends were also welcome on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at the church.   Memorials can be directed to the Joyce Pennekamp Memorial Fund.


Eric D. "Percy" Percival

     Eric D. “Percy” Percival, age 26, of Dickeyville, formerly of Potosi, died as the result of an automobile accident on Thursday, October 30, 2008 in Paris Township, Grant County.  His final act was to give the gift of life through organ and tissue donation.  Eric was born on May 17, 1982 the son of Larry and Katrina (Shaw) Percival in Dubuque, Iowa.  He graduated from Potosi High School in 2000 and attended University of Wisconsin – Platteville.  He was a rural mail carrier and tended bar at Yoder’s Rockville Bar.

      Eric was a member of the 229th National Guard and served 10 months in Iraq.  He was a member of the American Legion Post #473 and the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276 both of Potosi.  Eric was also a member of the TKE Fraternity at UWP and the Hawkeye Motorcycle Club.  He was an avid Cubs fan and enjoyed watching the Dubuque Thunderbirds Hockey Team.  Eric also enjoyed snowmobiling and spending time with family and friends at the family’s cabin in Cassville.

      Eric is survived by his parents, Larry and Katrina Percival, Potosi; his sister, Kelly Percival, Potosi; his grandmother, Wanda Shaw, Potosi; his fiancé, Leah Pronschinske, Dickeyville; five uncles and six aunts:  Karl (Virginia) Shaw, Clarksville, TN, Kyle (Avis) Shaw, Yuma, AZ, Kurt (Denita) Shaw, Boise, ID, Konrad (Brenda), Puyallup, WA, Kendall (Linda) Shaw, Sun Prairie, WI and Tina Shaw, Lancaster; and many cousins.

      He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Delbert and Ruth Percival; his maternal grandfather, Lyle Shaw and two uncles, Kerry and Kris Shaw.

     A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Bart Timmerman officiating.  Burial with Military Honors provided by the American Legion Post #473 and the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276, both of Potosi was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township.  Visitation was held on Monday, November 3, 2008 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. with a Prayer Service at 3:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, an Eric D. Percival memorial fund has been established. 

 


Ruth I. Percival

     Ruth I. Percival, age 91, of Lancaster, formerly of Potosi, died Thursday, March 13, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  She was born on August 26, 1916 in Bismarck, North Dakota, the daughter of Ralph and Matilda (Envick) Turner.  On November 10, 1936, she married Delbert C. Percival at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson.  Together they owned and operated the Greenhouse Tavern in Kieler, and later the Roadhouse Tavern in Tennyson, until retiring in 1979.  She loved to go shopping and tend to her flower garden.  Her greatest joy was her two grandchildren.

     Ruth is survived by her son, Larry (Katrina) Percival, Potosi; two grandchildren:  Eric Percival (Leah Pronschinske) and Kelly Percival, both of Potosi; one brother, Leonard (Faye) Turner, Scio, Oregon.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and a twin brother in infancy.

     A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday, March 15, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi Township.  Visitation was held on Friday, March 14, 2008 from 4:00 – 7:30 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Potosi, and after 9:30 a.m. Saturday morning at the funeral home. 


Helen J. Pickel

     Helen J. Pickel, age 88, of Potosi died Thursday, February 26, 2009 at The Finley Hospital in Dubuque.  She was born on April 7, 1920, the daughter of Glassmaker.  Helen was united in marriage to Arthur W. Pickel, the love of her life, on April 27, 1943 at Peace Lutheran Church in Cuba City.  He preceded her in death on January 17, 2007.  Together they lived at the same house where he was born and raised for 92 years. 

     Helen is survived by her three children, Bernice (Darrel) Ellis of Lancaster, Leroy Pickel (friend, Carol Scot), and Arleen (Dennis) Walter both of Potosi; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Adeline Brunton of Platteville; nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Art; two sons, Clifford and John; a granddaughter, Jennifer; a daughter-in-law, Gloria;

     Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2009 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was held at St. Mary’s Settlement Cemetery, Town of Cassville.  Family and friends were welcomed from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2009 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi and on Monday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  In lieu of flowers and plants, a Helen J. Pickel memorial fund has been established. 


Evelyn E. Pierce

     Evelyn E. Pierce, age 81, of Lancaster, died on Sunday, August 17, 2008, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster.  She was born on December 17, 1926, in S. Lancaster Township, the daughter of William and Opal (Hodoval) Wieland.  Evelyn attended Boice Creek country school and graduated from Lancaster High School.  On June 19, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage to Robert Pierce.  Together they farmed for forty-eight years on her grandfather, James Hodoval’s farm.  Evelyn was employed with the Lancaster Care Center as an Aide for fifteen years and then cared for the elderly in their homes.  Evelyn loved to play Bingo and enjoyed picking up hickory nuts and walnuts.  She would crack them open and sell them every fall.  Evelyn was a wonderful cook and enjoyed making chocolate chip cookies.  She liked to go to the Dubuque Greyhound Park and Casino and dearly loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

      In addition to her parents, Evelyn was preceded in death by three sisters:  Claramae Scott, Hazel Runice, and Marian Hirsch; two brothers: Virgil “Bud”
 Wieland and LeRoy Wielend; and a dearly loved grandson, Timothy Pierce.

     Survivors include her four sons:  Norbert (Arlene) Wieland, Potosi; Donald (Virginia) Pierce, Grundy Center, IA; Ronald (Marilyn) Pierce, Potosi; Darwin (Betty) Pierce, Potosi; twelve grandchildren; twenty-four great-grandchildren; eight great-great grandchildren; two step great-great grandchildren; a sister: Deloris (Donald) Metcalf, Cassville; two sisters-in-law: Arlene Wieland and Arlene (John) Roesch, all of Lancaster; many nieces and nephews.

     Funeral services were held on Wednesday, August 20, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at the Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating.   Burial was in the Hurricane Cemetery, rural Lancaster.  Friends called on Tuesday, August 19, 2008, from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday at the church.


Paul M. Pink

Paul M. Pink, age 72, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012 at U W Hospital in Madison. He was born August 13, 1939 in Lancaster, the son of Edward and Florence (Bazinet) Pink. Paul married Rachael E. Gotto on September 28, 1959 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington. He was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works. Paul and Rachael also farmed in rural Lancaster. After his retirement, Paul was a carpenter and enjoyed woodworking. Paul enjoyed watching T.V., playing cards and summer car cruises with friends. The ultimate joys of his life were his children, grandchildren, and most of all, spending time with the love of his life, Rachael.

Paul was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Dianne; his parents; his father-in-law, Clarence Gotto; son-in-law, Steve Bast; brother, David; a sister, Ruth Ann Haines; brother-in-law, James Gotto; and a sister-in-law, Marilyn Pink.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, January 26, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends  called on Wednesday, January 25, 2012, from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster. Friends also called on Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Paul M. Pink memorial fund was established.


Stanley E. Pink

     Stanley E. Pink, age 87, of Lancaster, died on Friday, February 27, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster, with his family by his side.  He was born on March 14, 1921, in Lancaster, the son of Cel and Rena (Ertz) Pink.  Stanley attended St. Clement Catholic School in Lancaster.  In 1944, he joined in the United States Navy.  On October 10, 1946, Stanley was united in marriage to Carol Mickelson in Payette, Idaho.  Following their marriage, the couple farmed in the Lancaster area for twenty years.  After retiring from farming, Stanley worked for Wisconsin Power and Light for seventeen years.  He loved repairing what needed repairing and some things that didn’t.  After retirement, he enjoyed being the camp wrangler at his son’s hunting camps in Colorado.  Stan loved spending time with his children and grandchildren supervising many a building project.  Stan will be greatly missed by his friends and family, including his second family at Orchard Manor.

       Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Carol, Lancaster; his children:  Gail (Phil) Johnston, Baraboo; Greg (Frances) Pink, Montrose, CO; Denny (Jane) Pink, Fort Collins, CO; Doug (LuAnne) Pink, Lancaster; Julie (Gary) Beach, Frederick, CO; Jay (Emily) Pink, DeForest; Patti (David) Seiler, Lancaster; sixteen grandchildren:  Ginnie Marty, Tori Martz, Jackie Agnew, Christopher Pink, Charlie Pink, Jeffrey Pink, Matthew Pink, Hillary Pink, Riley Pink, Sophie Pink, Sam Pink, Simon Pink, Leo Pink, Ashley Seiler, Miranda Seiler, and Nick Seiler; ten great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters:  Catherine (Donald) Schindler, Lancaster; Mark (Kay) Pink, Monroe; MaryLou (John) Walker, Lancaster; Joe (Shirley) Pink, Lancaster; and Mickey (Tom) Thill, Baraboo.

       Stan was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Norbert; a sister-in-law, Shirley Pink; and a brother-in-law, Donald Schindler.

       Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 3, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial with military honors was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Monday, March 2, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday until time of services at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Stanley E. Pink memorial fund has been established. 


Mary L. Place

     Mary Luella Place, age 83, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA.  She was born on August 15, 1926, in Dubuque, IA, the daughter of Leo and Margaret (Flesch) Duve.  Mary Luella attended school at St. Clement Catholic School in Lancaster.  On January 24, 1948, she was united in marriage to Clarence L. Place at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  After their marriage, the couple resided in Lancaster.  Mary Luella enjoyed needle point, creweling, fishing, cooking and baking.  There was always a fresh baked dessert for the children to come home to.  She was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, St. Clement CCW, the VFW Auxiliary and a former member of the DAVA.

       Survivors include her six children:  William J. (Kathy) Place, Rohnert Park, CA; Charles L. (Regina) Place, Fulda, Germany; Edward C. (Sheila) Place, Lancaster; Peggy (William) Muller, Copperas Cove, TX; Mary Lou Place and Rita Place, both of Lancaster; ten grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; her sisters and brothers: Evelyn (Phillip) Peterson, Lindsberg, KS; Jane Duve, Grand Blanc, MI; Ivan (Jean Ann) Duve, Shelby, MT; Eugene “Red” (Marilyn) Duve, Independence, MO; other relatives and many friends.

       In addition to her parents, Mary Luella was preceded in death by an infant daughter, her husband, Clarence, a sister, Irene Erickson, and a brother, Clement Duve.

       Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Tuesday, October 27, 2009, from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. where a 2:00 p.m. rosary will be held at Schwartz Funeral Home.  Friends also called on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.


Helen P. Ploessl

     Helen P. Ploessl, age 75, of Cassville, died on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  She was born June 26, 1932, in Cassville, WI, the daughter of Bernard and Lenice (Longmeier) Vondrum.  She was united in marriage to Clifford A. Ploessl on September 15, 1949 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Helen’s legacy is her family and they will miss her dearly. She tirelessly devoted her life to assure those she held in her heart had all the love and care they needed.  As Helen’s family grew, she welcomed her daughters-in-law as if they were her own.  She welcomed each new grandchild as a precious gift.  Helen was greatly respected as a kind and gentle woman.  She was a lifelong member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.

     She is survived by her ten children:  David (Vicki), Cassville; Kenneth (Mary), Cassville; Robert, Oregon; Thomas (Anne) Waunakee; Douglas (Cindy) Cassville; Ronald, Madison; Gregory (Rhonda) Waunakee; Diane Ploessl, Madison; Patrick (Christine), Cassville; and Daniel, Waunakee; 18 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and her sister, Mary Vondrum, Madison.

     She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford, in 2000; her parents, Bernard and Lenice Vondrum; and her youngest sister, Dorothy Kunz.

     Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 24, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Father John Norder officiating.  Burial was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.  It was Helen’s wish there be no public visitation.   


Janet Plourde

      Janet (Stuessy) Plourde, age 76, of Platteville passed away Thursday, September 3, 2009. 

    She was born on December 3, 1932 in Lafayette County, Wisconsin, the daughter of Dr. Milton and Susan (Willis) Stuessy.   Janet earned a degree from the Platteville Teachers College and in 1968 earned a Masters Degree in Education with an emphasis on English from the University of Wisconsin Platteville.  She taught English at Evansville High School for 24 years until her retirement.  It was always her goal to instill an understanding and appreciation of language and literature in her students.  It was her hope it would make a difference in their lives.

      Janet was a very kind, caring person and dedicated to helping others.  She believed that her children and their families were the most significant part of her life.  She was a voracious reader and crossword puzzler.  She enjoyed travel, car rides on country back roads, music and singing.  During her retirement Janet began playing the piano and composing songs for children.  She was proud to have become a published songwriter.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband James; two brothers George Stuessy, Dr. Milton Stuessy; brothers-in-law Bill Plourde, Richard Plourde; sister-in-law Patsy Plourde.

     Janet is survived by her two children:  Jim (Laurie) Plourde, Monroe, WI;  Sue (Ed) Ambrose, Inver Grove Heights, MN;  Four grandchildren; one great grandchild ; sisters-in-law, Carol Stuessy and Patricia Stuessy, both of Platteville and Joy Plourde of Bloomington, MN; brother-in-law Robert Plourde of Platteville; and many caring nieces and nephews.

      Funeral services were held on September 26, 2009 at 11:30AM at the United Methodist Church, Platteville, WI.  Visitation was held from 10:00 until the time of service at the church.  The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family.  Memorials preferred to Southwest Health Center of Platteville.


Robert B. Pluemer

     Robert B. Pluemer, 72, of Tennyson, WI, passed away on Tuesday morning, Aug. 26, 2008, after a short illness, at The Finley Hospital, Dubuque. 

     A Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 30, 2008 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with the Father Geoffrey Fecht OSB, Father Richard Leffler, Father John Norder and Father Cy Weisensel concelebrating.  Burial was in St. Andrew Cemetery, Tennyson. Visitation was from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the church where there was a Parish Scripture Service at 4:30 p.m. and a Rosary Service at 7:30 p.m. provided by the Knights of Columbus and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. 

     Bob was born February 26, 1936 in Potosi Township, son of Arnold and Leona (Muller) Pluemer.  He graduated from St. Andrew High School in 1953.  He was a lifelong resident of Tennyson.

     Bob served in the National Guard in the early 1960’s.  He was employed by John Deere in Dubuque, Iowa for 34 years and was a retired member of the UAW Local 94.

     Bob was a devoted member of the Catholic Knights for over 50 years and a faithful member of the Knights of Columbus.  As a member of the Knights of Columbus for 35 years, Bob was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knight.  He served as Grand Knight, District Deputy and Treasurer of the 3rd Degree.  He was past Faithful Navigator, Faithful Comptroller and Faithful Commander of the 4th Degree Honor Guard.  Through his involvement with the Knights of Columbus, Bob was very active with Father Mazzucheli Assembly.

     A devoted member of Saint Andrew-Thomas Parish, Bob served as Eucharistic Minister and Usher and for a time as President of the Parish Council,.  He was always involved in the many activities of the parish and local community.

     Surviving are his brother, Don (Eileen) Pluemer, Platteville and sisters, Dorothy Richard, Cuba City, Hazel Fecht, Tennyson and Margaret Wilke, Tennyson; sister-in-law, Jane Pluemer, Platteville; many nieces and nephews and their children whom Bob loved dearly.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lloyd and Parnell; his sisters-in-law, Mildred and Eleanor and his brothers-in-law, Vernon Richard, Raymond Downs, Francis Fecht and Delbert “Mort” Wilke.

     In lieu of flowers and plants, the family requests that memorials be given for the St. Andrew-Thomas Endowment Fund and the Potosi Rescue Squad.


Maxine L. Popp

Maxine L.Popp, age 85, of Platteville, died on Thursday, March 11, 2010 at her home.  She was born on June 26, 1924 in rural Platteville, the daughter of Otto and Florence (Wright) Duncan .  Maxine graduated from Platteville High School and attended the University of Wisconsin – Platteville for two years.  She was united in marriage to William J. Popp on November 30, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont .  He preceded her in death on February 22, 2008.  Together they farmed in rural Belmont for seven years before moving to Platteville and co-owned and operated City Market for two years.  Maxine worked at Dick’s Supermarket for over 30 years, including being a sales rep for Hallmark/Ambassador. 

Maxine loved to crochet; her beautiful creations are proudly displayed in the homes of family members.  She also enjoyed walking, dancing and listening to music, especially by her son, Larry and grandson, Bryan.  She dearly loved her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Peace.

Maxine is survived by her son, Larry “Fizz” (Ellen) Popp, Platteville; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Troy) Kerkenbush, Platteville and Bryan (Shannon) Popp, Lancaster; six great-grandchildren: Presley, Paige and Kaia Kerkenbush and Addyson, Lainey and Lexy Popp; her sister, Joyce Bridges, Tucson, AZ and her sister-in-law, Helen Buss, Belmont.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; an infant daughter, Linda Jean.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, March 15, 2010 at Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville with the Reverend Jeff Pederson officiating.  Burial was held in Belmont Cemetery , Belmont .  Family and friends were welcome from 1:00 until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 14 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.

In lieu of flowers and plants a Maxine L. Popp Memorial Fund has been established.


William “Bill” J. Popp

    William “Bill” J. Popp, age 90, of Platteville, died on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Southwest Health Center Nursing Home in Cuba City.  Bill was born on September 20, 1917 in rural Belmont, Lafayette County, the son of William C. and Clara (Gehrke) Popp.  He married Maxine Duncan on November 30, 1945 at Peace Lutheran Church in Belmont.  Together they farmed in rural Belmont for seven years before moving to Platteville and co-owned and operated City Market for two years.  Bill then drove milk truck for Dean Milk Company.  He also worked for Dick’s, Scott’s Service Station, and built houses and did carpentry work with Bob Bockhop before retiring from Pioneer Ford. 

     Bill was an avid fisherman, liked crafts and carpentry work and latch hooking.  He also loved to go dancing with Maxine.  He volunteered for the Boy Scouts as a Troop Leader at Lutheran Church of Peace, coached his son in summer baseball and was a member of the Elks Lodge.

     Bill is survived by his wife of 62 years, Maxine Popp, Platteville; his son, Larry “Fizz” (Ellen) Popp, Platteville; two grandchildren, Stephanie (Troy) Kerkenbush, Platteville and Bryan (Shannon) Popp, Mount Horeb; three great-granddaughters, Presley and Paige Kerkenbush and Addyson Popp; his sister, Helen Buss, Belmont and his sister-in-law, Joyce Bridges, Tucson, AZ.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant daughter, Linda Jean and a sister, Esther Popp.

     Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 25, 2008 at Lutheran Church of Peace in Platteville with the Reverend Jeff Pederson officiating.  Burial was held in Belmont Cemetery, Belmont.  Family and friends were welcomed from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, February 24 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home in Platteville and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Monday at the church.


David L. Potter

David Lyle Potter, age 58, of Beetown, died on Wednesday, October 06, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster, after a hard fought battle with colon cancer. He was born on August 16, 1952, in Lancaster, the son of Lyle and Helen (Purkapile) Potter.  He owned and operated Potter Logging and the Valley Tap in Beetown.  Dave was a logger at heart and also enjoyed wood working, antique restoration and reading. 

Survivors include his daughter, Peggie (Ben) Kuenne, Marshfield; his mother, Helen Potter, Beetown; brother, Mike (Karen) Potter, Potosi; his sisters: Bev Teasley, Arkansas; Betty (Jerry Cromwell) Nelson, Cassville; Trudi Cromwell, Lancaster; one granddaughter, Toni Kuenne; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; his dog and best friend, Sara.

Dave was preceded in death by his son, Clint; his father, Lyle Potter; his sister, Brenda Moore and brother-in-law, Mark Moore.

In keeping with Dave’s wishes, there was no funeral service.  Friends called on Friday, October 8, 2010, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster.  Burial was in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown Township. 


Charles L. Pritchett

Charles L. Pritchett, age 78, of Bloomington, died peacefully on Monday, May 3, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster surrounded by his family.  He was born on July 8, 1931, in Bloomington, the son of Leonard and Bertha (Jakeman) Pritchett.  He entered the United States Coast Guard and served his country during the Korean Conflict until his honorable discharge.  Upon his discharge, he was employed with the Printing Press in Rice Lake and helped his parents at the Bloomington Record.  On July 27, 1957, Charles was united in marriage to Helene Marben in Minnesota.  Through the years, Charles wore many hats while farming.  He served the county and village as a police officer as well as a U.S. Mail Transporter and milk hauler.  Charles was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington and the Abraham Hickok Wetmore American Legion Post No. 148 of Bloomington.  He was an avid coin and antique car collector and enjoyed gardening, trap shooting, tinkering and being outdoors. 

Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Helene Pritchett, Bloomington; their children:  Timothy Pritchett, Silver Springs, MD; Tamara (Bob) Mecum, Minnetonka, MN; Trenton Pritchett, Bloomington; Thomas (Angie) Pritchett, Monroe; Ted (Dana) Pritchett, Black Earth; Leonard (Jenny) Pritchett, Bloomington; six grandchildren: Jeff and Steve Pritchett, Ashley and Jon Mecum, Brynley and Pierce Pritchett; four step-grandchildren: Taylor, Paige, and Autumn Morfey and Blake Stagman; one great-grandchild, Jordin Pritchett.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held on Thursday, May 6, 2010, at 5:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father Bart Timmerman officiating.  Family and friends called on Thursday, May 6, 2010, from 3:00 p.m. until time of services at the church.  A rosary was held at 2:45 p.m. at the church.  Burial with military honors was held on Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Bloomington at 10:30 a.m. with Father Bart Timmerman officiating.  Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is serving the family.


Jim M. Puhl

     Jim M. “PaPa Fish” Puhl, age 70, of Cassville, formerly of Roscoe, IL, was called home on Thursday, May 7, 2009, from a bought with leukemia, at HospiceCare Inc. in Fitchburg.  He was born on December 26, 1938, the son of “Dad” Riley and Vera (Coppernoll) Tinder and “Father” Earl Puhl, in Beloit.  Jim graduated from Beloit High School and joined the United States Army in 1956, serving in the 82nd Airborne Division.  He was united in marriage to June G. Nelson on July 30, 1960, and settled in Roscoe, IL.  They owned and operated a full service automobile repair facility.  Jim was very active in the community as a Winnebago County sheriff officer, a volunteer on the Harlem Roscoe Fire Department, Police Commission, and a village trustee.  After selling their business, Jim explored several other adventures.  He retired from American Family Insurance as a field adjuster, at the age of fifty-seven.  Jim was fortunate to have many years after retirement to do the things he loved to do.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and being with family and friends.  He will be forever loved and missed by all.

       Survivors include his beloved wife, June G. (Nelson) Puhl, Cassville; his sons:  Timothy J. (Sandra) Puhl, Roscoe, IL; Rusty M. (Mary) Puhl, Machesney Park, IL; his grandchildren:  Breanne Puhl and Nickolas McCluskey, both of Machesney Park, IL; soon to be born great-grandson; his sister, Cindy (Tinder) Feld, Alton, MO; his brothers:  Ross (Phyllis) Tinder, Afton, WI; Michael Puhl, Wausau, WI; his mother-in-law, Mabel (Gilbertson) Nelson, Lancaster, WI; sister-in-law, Ester (Nelson) Dixon, Durand, IL; several nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors, and fellow “snow birds” of Lady Lake, FL.

       Jim was preceded in death by his mother, dad, father, father-in-law, and many other loved ones.

       Family greeted friends in Jim’s honor on Saturday, May 16, 2009, from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Cassville, where a luncheon followed at St. Charles School, Cassville.  Burial will be at a later date.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Jim M. Puhl memorial fund has been established.
