Kathryn A. Ragatz

Kathryn Ann Garner Ragatz, age 63, of Beetown, passed away on Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster surrounded by her loving family.  She was born on February 10, 1947, the soul child of John Toay and Ann (Forck) Garner. 

Kathryn attended Beetown elementary school and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1964. She studied Nursing in Chicago and later graduated with a degree in Elementary Education from Winona State University.   Kathryn taught at Winskill Elementary School in Lancaster and later pursued a banking career at Woodhouse and Bartley Bank in Bloomington, WI, retiring in 2005. 

Kathryn was very passionate and instrumental in the success of the Wisconsin High School Rodeo Association, and served as the executive secretary for over 30 years. She dedicated countless hours to the youth of Wisconsin, teaching them about life in and out of the rodeo arena. She was a member of the Lancaster Congregational Church and West Grant Saddle Club.

When Kathy wasn’t outside with her horses on the family farm, you would find her cooking for her family and any potential guest that might be dropping by the farm for dinner.  Taught by her mother, Kathryn was an extraordinary cook.   Canning, cooking, baking and gardening were among her favorite pastimes. 

She is survived by her children: Bradley John “BJ” (Misty) Ragatz, Beetown; Sara (Jacob) Burks, Lancaster; Jon (Alison) Ragatz, Beetown; her former husband, Ted (Marsia) Ragatz, Lancaster; her grandchildren: Brittney Stein, Bridee Burks, Brenna Ragatz, Lainee Burks, Toay Ragatz and Ronnie Ragatz.

Kathryn was preceded in death by her parents and step-mother, Kay Garner.

 Funeral services were held on Monday, October 4, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was in the Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township.  Family and friends called on Sunday, October 3, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at the Lancaster Congregational Church and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Kathryn A. Ragatz Memorial Fund has been established.  Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster is assisting the family.


Robert C. Raisbeck

Robert “Bob” C. Raisbeck, age 87, of Lancaster passed away into eternal rest on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster. Bob was born on April 20, 1924, in Beetown, the son of Wilbert and Lennice (Griswold) Raisbeck. Bob worked at his father's gas station with his brother, Bill and on nearby farms in his youth. He attended Bloomington High School. At age 17, he enlisted into the United States Army and served his country in an anti-aircraft battery unit in the South Pacific. He was an avid sports fan and he even tried out for the position of catcher with the Chicago Cubs. His baseball career was not to be. At a Rockville dance he met the love of his life, Shirley Mae Vesperman. They were married at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster, August 1, 1947, where they remained members and Bob served as an elder. The newlyweds lived in Madison for a short time while Bob attended a cheese maker short course at the University of Wisconsin. Bob then worked as a cheese maker in Cassville before moving to Lancaster to start his farming career, naming their business, “Hi-View Farm.” He also sold seed corn with his neighbor, and lifelong friend, Donald “Mac”McKelvey. One of Bob’s passions in life was Shorthorn cattle. They purchased their first Shorthorn cow, Lady Augusta and her calf in 1952 in Sibley, IA. She was soon joined by the new herd bull, Wernacres Chief Adonis. In 1959, Bob showed his own bull at the WI Beef Futurity Show and was awarded reserve champion bull. After that, it was in his blood and there was no stopping him. Bob also showed other award winning Shorthorn cattle at various sales and shows. In 1977, he was named Builder of the Breed by the National Shorthorn Association. Bob was a member of the WI Shorthorn Association and served as state director and vice president. He also served as the WI state delegate to the national meeting. Bob additionally served as an officer of other agricultural commodity organizations. In 1998, at the WI State Fair, The Raisbeck Family was honored at the P.A.C.E. Show for their dedication to the Shorthorn breed. One of his last herd bulls, CF Ringo, went on to be a national Shorthorn champion bull. Bob was also a 4-H leader and all of his children and several grandchildren showed shorthorn cattle at the fairs. This tradition will be continued this year witha fourth generation, Robbie Knorr. Bob was a great storyteller, had a great memory for detail, and a good sense of humor.

Survivors include his children: Douglas (Bev) Raisbeck, Lancaster; Diane(Patrick) Kallas, Hartland; Phillip (Rita),Lancaster; Suzette (John) Katchko, Rhinelander; Michael Raisbeck, Beetown; ten grandchildren: Shelly (Scott) Knorr, Nicole Raisbeck, Kimberly (Ben) Searls, Jessica Kallas, Jarett Kallas, Bridget (Kyle) Krueger, Thomas Raisbeck, Karina Katchko, Daria Katchko and Kristina Larson; one step-great-grandchild, Abbi (Brock) Linde; five great-grandchildren: Robbie Knorr, Andy Knorr, Makena Vesperman, Ava Vesperman, Brynlee Mae Krueger; a brother, William (Emma Jean) Raisbeck, Cobb; a sister-in-law, Margaret Vesperman, Lancaster; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Shirley, and a brother-in-law, Donald Vesperman

Funeral services with military honors were held on Sunday, August 7, 2011, at 3:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Burial will be at a later date. Family and friends called on Sunday from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to the First Presbyterian Church.


Shirley M. Raisbeck

     Shirley Mae Raisbeck, age 82, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Thursday, January 14, 2010, at Morningside Assisted Living, Lancaster.  She was born on January 3, 1928, in South Lancaster Township, the daughter of Earl and Alda Vesperman.  Shirley graduated from Lancaster High School in 1945.  She furthered her education at the University of Dubuque, graduating with a degree in teaching.  On August 1, 1947, Shirley was united in marriage to Robert Raisbeck at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.  After their marriage, the couple farmed near Lancaster for many years.  Shirley was always active in her community and church and was very strong in her faith.  She taught music and piano in her home for many years and was active with the Historical Society and the community library.  She was a lifetime member of the First Presbyterian Church and was very active with the church choir as a director and organist and taught Sunday school.  Shirley also was a 4-H leader, music director and hosted two AFS exchange students.  She was a member of the Shorthorn Beef Cattle Women’s Lassie Auxiliary and was instrumental in the Wisconsin Beef Cook-off.  Shirley was named the Wisconsin Farm Wife of the Year for all her efforts.  She enjoyed sewing, gardening, crocheting, playing the piano and the organ, traveling and square dancing.  A central focus of Shirley’s life was caring for her family.

       Survivors include her husband, Bob Raisbeck, Lancaster; her children: Douglas (Bev) Raisbeck, Lancaster; Diane (Patrick) Kallas, Hartland; Phillip (Rita) Raisbeck, Lancaster; Suzette (John) Katchko, Rhinelander; Michael Raisbeck, Lancaster; ten grandchildren: Shelly (Scott) Knorr, Nicole (Chad) Vesperman; Kimberly (Ben) Searls, Jessica Kallas, Jarett Kallas, Bridget (Kyle) Krueger, Thomas Raisbeck, Karina Katchko, Daria Katchko, and Kristina Larson; one step-great-grandchild, Abbi (fiancé Brock Linde) Knorr; four great-grandchildren: Robbie Knorr, Andy Knorr, Makena Vesperman, and Ava Vesperman; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

       Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Donald Vesperman.

       Funeral services were held on Sunday, January 17, 2010, at 3:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was at a later date.  Family and friends were welcome on Sunday, January 17, 2010, from 1:00 p.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be offered to the First Presbyterian Church or Grant County Hospice.


Harold W. Rech

     Harold W. Rech, age 91, of Lancaster, died on Monday, June 23, 2008, at Southwest Health Center in Platteville.  He was born on May 2, 1917, in Lancaster, WI, the son of William and Barbara (Caspers) Rech.  In 1940, he married Charlotte Duve.  Together they farmed in Grant and Iowa Counties.   Charlotte preceded him in death in 1966.  In 1973, he married Alice Burns.  Harold and Alice moved to Lancaster in 1975.  He was employed at the Grant County Courthouse.  Alice preceded him in death in 1997.  Harold was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church.  He enjoyed camping, fishing, and playing cards with his friends at Zippy’s. 

     He is survived by two daughters:  Judith (James) Richardson, Fennimore; and Patricia (Lee) Halverson, Cottage Grove; a stepdaughter, Margaret (Melvin) Kaufman, Lancaster; a sister, Helen Jenkinson, Cameron; many grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren.

     In addition to his wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Louise Rech; his brother, Donald (Marian) Rech, and his brother-in-law, Robert Jenkinson.

     Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Visitation was held from 9:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church on Thursday.    In lieu of plants and flowers, a Harold W. Rech memorial fund has been established.


Lela R. Rech

Lela R. Rech, age 99, of Lancaster, died on Monday, November 21, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on August 21, 1912, in Beetown Township, the oldest child of four born to Harvey and Nettie (Kitelinger) Bass. Lela attended Badger and Five Points country school. On December 25, 1930, she was united in marriage to Henry E. Rech in Beetown Township. After their marriage, the couple farmed dairy, beef and hogs. Lela enjoyed gardening and cooking. She participated in 4-H and was a superintendent for cooking and canning classes for several years. Lela also was employed at Ramshaw’s Greenhouse. She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church, the Royal Neighbors of America, serving as their secretary until the age of 98, and the Rebecca Lodge. Lela enjoyed crocheting, quilting and traveling. She has been to all fifty states and several countries. Lela collected recipes and enjoyed puzzles. Most of all, she loved to cook, bake and spend time with her family.

Survivors include her son, Roger Rech, Lancaster; four daughters: Dorothy Eck, Linda (Arvin Weber) Barr, Marcia (Dan) Mitchell, all of Lancaster; Sharon (Steve) Klein, Cassville; son-in-law, Harold Sweeney, Lancaster; twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-nine great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Gates, Lancaster; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; children: Charles Rech, Shirley Sweeney, and Stephen Rech; grandchildren: Dana Rech, Lori Sweeney, and Eric Barr; daughters-in-law: Iris Rech, Shirley Rech, Marilyn Rech, and Susan Rech; sons-in-law: Stanley Eck and William Barr; two brothers: Walter (Etha) Bass and Louis (Mildred) Bass; a brother-in-law, John Gates; and sisters-in-law: Leola (John) Krohn and Florence(Walter) Gratz.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 27, 2011, at 1:00 p.m. at the Lancaster United Methodist Church with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends called on Saturday, November 26, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Sunday from 12:00 noon until time of services at the church.


Shirley A. Rech

     Shirley A. Rech, age 72, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, January 6, 2010, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Madison.  She was born on November 24, 1937, in Cassville Township, the daughter of Richard and Sylvia (Reed) Richards.  Shirley graduated from Potosi High School in 1953.  On June 15, 1957, Shirley was united in marriage to Charles L. Rech at the United Methodist Church Parsonage in Lancaster.  She was employed with Dairy Herd Improvement Association in Fennimore.  Shirley enjoyed fishing, playing cards and going to the boat.  She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary.

       Survivors include two sons:  Randy Rech, Lancaster; Robert Rech, Elgin, IL; a sister, Nancy (Ken) Jacobson, Potosi; three nephews: Duane Jacobson, Brian Jacobson, and Mike (Courtney) Richards; one niece, Gina (Tom) Vondrum; and her very special grandchildren: Kari and Grant Vance.

       In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and a brother, LeRoy (Elaine) Richards.

       Funeral services were held on Saturday, January 9, 2010, at 10:30 a.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Reverend Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Friday, January 8, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Saturday.


Stephen A. "Steve" Rech

     Stephen A. “Steve” Rech, age 54, of Lancaster, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2008, in Barneveld of an apparent heart attack.  He was born on February 1, 1954, the son of Henry and Lela (Bass) Rech.  Steve graduated from Lancaster High School in 1972 and attended Southwest Technical College for two years.  On May 27, 1978, he married Susan Noble at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster.  Steve drove semi-truck for most of his adult life, most recently for Wal-Mart Transportation for the past three years.  He enjoyed his work, especially touring the country. 

       Steve liked to be in the outdoors, especially hunting, fishing and riding horses.  He also enjoyed the Landon family get-togethers.  Steve especially appreciated and cherished spending time with his family and friends.

       Steve is survived by his three children, Erin (Jason) Wehrle, Fennimore; Patrick Rech (Miranda Tracy), Lancaster; Stephen “Todd” Rech (Katie Withrow), Lancaster; three grandchildren, Emma and Jacob Wehrle, and Bonnie Rech; his mother, Lela Rech, Lancaster; five sisters and one brother:  Shirley (Harold) Sweeney, Lancaster; Dorothy Eck, Lancaster; Roger Rech, Lancaster; Linda Barr (Arvin Weber), Lancaster; Marcia (Daniel) Mitchell, Lancaster and Sharon (Steve) Klein, Cassville; four sisters-in-law, Shirley Rech, Lancaster; Sharon Hensal, Lena, IL; Diane (Tim) Twining, Isanti, MN; Vicki (Craig) Humphries, Lancaster; two brothers-in-law, Steven (Kathy) Noble, Oakland, IA; Jeff Bendorf, Stitzer his father-in-law Calvin Bendorf, Stitzer; a friend, Connie and her family; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

       He was preceded in death by his father, Henry and his wife, Susan on June 13, 2006; a brother, Charles Rech; two brothers-in-law, Stanley Eck and Bill Barr; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Rech and his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Floyd Noble and Ruth Bendorf.

        Funeral services were held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 7, 2008 at the United Methodist Church in Lancaster with Rev. Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends were welcome from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 6 at the Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 12:00 noon until time of services Friday at the church.


Caitlin Elizabeth Recker

     Caitlin Elizabeth Recker, age 5, of Lancaster, passed away, surrounded by her family, on Monday, February 18, 2008 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster after a courageous battle with cancer .  She was born July 12, 2002 in Lancaster, WI; the daughter of Benjamin and Sara (Mumm) Recker.  Caitlin was a kindergartener at St. Clement Catholic School in Lancaster.  Her loving way was very contagious to all who knew her. 

     She is survived by her parents, Ben and Sara Recker, Lancaster; her brother, Joey  and sister, Carolyn, both at home; grandparents, Bob and Kitty Mumm, Lancaster; Ed and Carol Recker, Lancaster; great-grandparents, Germaine Mumm, Lancaster; Francis Richgels, Lancaster; Victor Recker, Bloomington; Shirley Bausch, Mount Hope; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

     She was preceded in death by her great-grandparents:  Vincent Mumm, Catherine Richgels, Alice Recker, and Fred “Sonny” Bausch; and her great-aunt, Mary Frances (Richgels) Turner.

     Funeral services were held on Thursday, February 21, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, South Lancaster Township.  Visitation was held on Wednesday, February 20, 2008 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at the church, and from 9:30 a.m. Thursday morning until the time of services.   In lieu of plants and flowers, memorials may be given to the Caitlin Elizabeth Recker Memorial Fund.


Victor H. Recker

     Victor H. Recker, age 88, of Bloomington died Sunday, March 16, 2008 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital.  He was born December 16, 1919, in Bloomington, WI, the son of Andrew and Josephine (Oval) Recker.  He attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Bloomington and then farmed in the Bloomington area.  On February 14, 1950, he married Alice Ann Blum at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien.  She preceded him in death on December 30, 1999.  He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, an active member of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 4416 of Bloomington, and a member of the NFO.  Victor enjoyed farming, playing cards, and traveling and he dearly loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

     He is survived by 10 children:  Mary (Richard) Loftus, Columbia, MO; Ruth (Dale) Cary, Glenbeulah; Andrew (Mary) Recker, Soldiers Grove; Edward (Carol) Recker, Lancaster; Beverly (James) Callahan, Prairie du Chien; Irene (Lawrence) Callahan, Belgium; Anthony (Robbie) Recker, McFarland; Louise (Robert) Wiederholt, Phillips, NE; Louis Recker, Bloomington; and Joseph (Alana) Recker, Bloomington; 34 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; his brother, Alfred “Fritz” Recker, Bloomington; and many nieces and nephews.

     He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice; his parents; his two grandchildren:  Jason Callahan and Dawn Recker; a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Recker; and four sisters:  Philomine Steinl, Julia Gruender, Ludwina Mergen, and Delores Klinkhammer.

     Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 19, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father Bart Timmerman officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington.  Visitation was held on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 3:00 p.m.  Friends also called from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Wednesday morning. 


Harlan E. Reed

     Harlan E. Reed, age 82, of Cassville, died on Friday, December 25, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster, surrounded by his family.  He was born on February 26, 1927, in Burton, the son of Carson and Marcella (Brinkman) Reed.  He attended Dubuque Senior High School and served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict, stationed in Germany where he met his wife.  Harlan was employed with Dubuque Packing Company, retiring in 1981.  He was a lifetime member of the VFW Post No. 7080.  Harlan was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed hunting and fishing.  He liked to watch all sports on the television, especially the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Cubs.  Harlan loved spending time with his family and visiting with friends.  He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, who will be thoroughly missed.

       Survivors include his wife, Ann Reed, Cassville; his sons: Brian Reed, Cassville; Rod (Sharon) Reed, Cassville; his grandchildren: Michael Reed, Platteville; Carrie (Adam) Sutter, Prairie du Chien; his great-grandchildren: Conner and Cayden; an aunt, Eileen Brinkman, Cassville; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

       Harlan was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, a brother, Maurice and a sister-in-law, Charlene Reed.

       Funeral services were held on Monday, December 28, 2009, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial with military honors was in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville.  Family and friends called on Monday, December 28, 2009, from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.

            The family wishes to thank Dubuque Internal Medicine, the Oncology department, Dr. Herman, Tony and nurses, the staff at Finley Hospital, nurses and staff at Orchard Manor and Tracy with Grant County Hospice for all the concern and wonderful care they gave to Harlan.


Nancy C. Reed

     Nancy C. (Hammill) Reed, age 64, of Platteville, formerly of Cassville died Tuesday, November 25, 2008 at Gray’s Nursing Home in Platteville after a long and courageous battle with cancer.  She was born on November 17, 1944 the daughter of Robert and Florence (Bausch) Reed in Madison, WI.  Nancy married Kenneth “Butch” Hammill on June 10, 1967 and they were later divorced. 

       Nancy is survived by two children:  Brian (Toni) Hammill, AZ and Tonya (Chris) Vosberg, Hazel Green, three very special grandchildren, Samantha Luann Vosberg, Nedallas Kenneth Hammill and Destiny Nashoni Hammill; two sisters, Mary Kay (David) Sauk and Linda Ankomeus, both of Madison.

       She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Luann Reed.

     Funeral Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, 2008 at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father John Norder and Monsignor Charles Schluter concelebrating.  Burial was held in St. Mary’s Settlement Cemetery, Town of Cassville.  Family and friends were welcome from 9:00 a.m. until time of services Saturday at the church.  Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is serving the family.


Jerome F. Reilly

    Jerome “O.J.” F. Reilly, age 86, of Lancaster, died on Tuesday, September 22, 2009, at his home in Lancaster.  He was born on March 18, 1923, in Platteville.  He was drafted into the United Sates Navy in 1942.  Jerome served his country in the Pacific Theatre and was honorably discharged in 1946 as a Seaman First Class.  On January 28, 1947, Jerome was united in marriage to Mary Jane Fuerstenberg.  She preceded him in death on May 22, 1988.  Jerome was employed with John Deere for six years and later he was employed with Dubuque Packing Company as a Butcher, retiring after twenty-eight years.  He was an avid Packers and Brewers fan and enjoyed hunting.  Jerome was a lifetime member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster.  He loved spending time with his family.

       In addition to his parents and his wife, Mary, Jerome was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters: Guerdon (Hellen) Reilly, Delores (John) Finan, Cletus Reilly, Merlin “Johnny” (Margarette) Reilly, Jeanette Healy, and Robert Reilly, and a special friend, Delores Manuel.

       Survivors include his children:  Richard (Odelia) Reilly, Tracy, CA; John (Annette) Reilly, Edgerton; Catherine (Mark) Schleicher, Glen Haven; his grandchildren: Michael (Kaitlyn) Reilly, Evansville; April Schleicher, Prairie du Chien; Andrew (Kori) Reilly, Edgerton; Jim (Samantha Vogt) Schleicher, Prairie du Chien; Brandon (Erin) Reilly, Marshall; Steven Reilly, Edgerton; four great-grandchildren: Angela, Katie, Emily and Jayden; and his special friends, Dennis Kotte and Nora Bevins.

       Funeral services were held on Friday, September 25, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Thursday, September 24, 2009, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Friday at the church.


William D. Reisen

    William D. "Bill" Reisen, age 52, of Potosi died Saturday, November 22, 2008 at his home with his sister, Deborah, his friend, Sharon Blindert and his cousins, Pauline Johnson and Paula Richardson by his side.  He was born on May 30, 1956, the son of Keith Reisen and Mary Jane (Bisbach) Reese in Lancaster, WI.  Bill attended school in Potosi and enlisted in the U. S. Army where he was stationed in Germany.  After he was discharged, Bill lived in Florida, Michigan and New York among other places before returning to Potosi to reside at the home of his mother, Mary Jane Reese.  Most recently, Bill was employed the last four years at John Deere in Dubuque, Iowa. 

      He was an avid hunter and fisherman and liked to pick morel mushrooms and berries.  Bill loved to spend time with his family and especially enjoyed camping on his sister Deborah’s land.  He also loved spending time with his friends, especially at Ivan’s Cabin.  He was a member of the Friends of the White River Association in Neshkoro, WI. 

      Bill is survived by two children: Brandon (Jackie) Reisen, Bloomington and Kimberly Reisen (Allen Baeumel), McCaysville, GA and their mother, Dawn (Smiley) Burleson, Mineral Bluff, GA; his father, Keith Reisen, Gainesville, FL; two brothers and two sisters:  Mary Kay Hoag, Orlando, FL, James Reisen (Tina Brooke), Hawaii,  Deborah (Marlin) Teske, Neshkoro, WI and David Reisen (Linda Mills), Ft. Lauderdale, FL; aunts and uncles: Carol (Raymond) Wunderlin, Platteville, Henry Bisbach, Avoca, WI, and Wendall Bisbach, Potosi, Anna Mae Cunzenheim, Platteville, Clarence Reisen, Dubuque, IA, Charles (Linda) Reisen, Dubuque, IA, Marguette Utiger, Omaha, NE and Carol (Roger) Wellensick, Dunbar, NE; many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, cousins and friends.

      He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Jane Reese; an infant brother, Michael and his grandparents, Francis and Dorothy (Louthain) Bisbach.

      Funeral services were held at 12:00 noon on Sunday, November 30, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Teri A. Hanson officiating.  Burial with Military Honors presented by the American Legion Post #473 and the Berg Averkamp VFW Post #5276, both of Potosi, was held in Hurricane Cemetery, Town of South Lancaster.  Family and friends were welcome on Sunday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  Luncheon was held at the Potosi Inn following the burial.

     Memorials were preferred to Potosi Fire Department or Potosi Rescue Squad (105 N. Main St.) or Friends of the White River Association in Neshkoro, WI (PO Box 54, Neshkoro, WI  54960). 



Ila J. Retallick

Ila J. Retallick, age 83, of Beetown, died peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Thursday, October 21, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  She was born on May 26, 1927, the daughter of Arnold and Lela (Myers) Traupe.  Ila graduated from Cassville High School in 1945.  She married Francis L. Retallick on June 22, 1950, at the Beetown United Methodist Church.  They were blessed with three children: Steven, Kevin and Pamela.  Together they farmed on the family farm in Glen Haven Township until their retirement in 1983, when they moved to Beetown.  Ila continued to work in the dietary department at Orchard Manor Nursing Home for several years.  Ila was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and dear friend to all.  She was an excellent cook, candy maker, baker, and always had cookies on hand for anyone that may stop in.  Ila also loved to play cards for quarters.

Survivors include her three children: Steven Retallick, Cassville; Kevin (Keri) Retallick, Glen Haven; Pamela Hobson, Richland Center; ten grandchildren: Michael (Dawn) Retallick, Steven Retallick, Renee (Chad) Wehrle, Sarah (Kevin) McCartney, and Ben (Sadie) Retallick; Keela, Kelsi, and Kelli Retallick; Annie (Brad) Lisowski and Aaron Hobson; ten great-grandchildren; a sister, Una Faye Gotzinger, Potosi; sister-in-law, Clara Traupe, KY; along with nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

In addition to her parents, Ila was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Francis, her brother, Norman “Dale” Traupe and a brother-in-law, David Gotzinger.

Funeral services were held on Monday, October 25, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Beetown United Methodist Church with Pastor Mary Ann Floerke officiating.  Burial was in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township.  Family and friends called on Sunday, October 25, 2010, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Schwartz Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Monday at the church.


Cletus B. Reuter

Cletus B. Reuter, 79, of Bagley, WI, died Friday, June 17, 2011, at UW Hospital in Madison.  He was born on June 6, 1932, in Potosi, a son of William and Josephine (Stelphflug) Reuter.

Cletus moved the Bloomington area when he was five years old.  He served in the U.S. Army, and was a member of the American Legion. 

Cletus married Darlene Zenz in 1957.

He owned his own trucking business and farmed until his retirement.

Cletus is survived by his wife, Darlene; four sons, Jeff (Kris) and Joe (Gerri), both of Lancaster, Jim (Diane) and Jack (Patience), both of Denver, CO; 9 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild. 

A memorial mass was held at 10 am on Tuesday, June 21, 2011, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington, with Father John Meinholtz officiating.  Burial with Military Honors was in Bloomington Cemetery.  Visitation was from 4 to 7 pm on Monday, June 20, at St. Mary’s, with a prayer service at 7 pm, and one hour prior to the mass at church on Tuesday. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is serving his family.


Elaine Anna Reuter

     Elaine Anna Reuter, age 85, of Lancaster, died suddenly on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.  She was born on February 6, 1923, in Potosi, the daughter of Roy and Esther (Koeller) McKelvey.  On May 10, 1948, Elaine married Irvin Reuter at St. Andrew Catholic Church, Tennyson.  She worked as a bookkeeper for Bailey Oil Company in Lancaster before marrying and raising her family.  She also did assessing bookwork for S. Lancaster Township for twenty-eight years.  Irvin and Elaine lived most of their married life on the Becher farm south of Lancaster until two years ago, when they moved into Lancaster.  She enjoyed gardening and growing flowers and playing games on her computer.  Most of all, she loved the visits from her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

     Survivors include her husband of sixty years, Irvin, Lancaster; her seven children: Steve Reuter, Milwaukee; Gary (Barb Schneider) Reuter, Lancaster; Kay (Dave) Krohn, Madison; Sue (Steve) Devine, Wisconsin Rapids; Dave (Deb Now) Reuter, Lancaster; Alan (Jan) Reuter, Yankton, SD; Marianne (Kevin) Klais, Fennimore; twelve grandchildren: Scott (Katie) Reuter and Angela Reuter all of Lancaster; Jen (Travis) Higgins, Weston; Gina (Jason) Caldwell, Eau Claire; Matthew Reuter, Salt Lake City, UT; Andrew (Abby Johnson) Reuter, Platteville; Michael and Katherine Krohn, both of Madison; Bethany, Marissa, Saralyn, and Trenten Klais, all of Fennimore; four great-grandchildren: Lexie, Julia, and Jacob Higgins, Weston and Austin Reuter, Lancaster; her brother: Donald (Mary) McKelvey, Lancaster; brothers and sisters-in-law: John Stuer, Dubuque, IA; Eileen Reuter, Potosi; Ruth (Don) Cox, Dubuque, IA; Don Reuter, Apache Junction, AZ; Donna Mae Reuter, Dickeyville; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

      In addition to her parents, Elaine was preceded in death by a sister, Marion Stuer, a brother-in-law, Francis Reuter, and a sister-in-law, Bernadette Reuter.

Bonnie K. Reynolds

Bonnie K. Reynolds, age 66, of Lancaster, died Monday, May 30, 2011, at ManorCare in Platteville. Bonnie was born in Richland Center, WI on October 16, 1944, a daughter of Arthur & Opal (Buroker) Gander.  She graduated from Soldiers Grove High School in 1962.  Bonnie married Roger J. Reynolds on June 29, 1963, in Lancaster.  She worked for LCC for over 30 years.  Bonnie enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and was a good cook.

Bonnie is survived by her husband, Roger; sons, Tony (Sue) and Andy (Jody); five grandchildren, Rita, Kelly, Dustin, Jenna, and Lane; sisters, Jean (Galen) Kuster and Susan (Jim) Milender; other nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Funeral Services were held at 11 am on Monday, June 6, 2011, at Schwartz Funeral Home, 142 W. Oak St, Lancaster, with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster. Visitation was from 4 to 7 pm on Sunday, June 5, at Schwartz Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service Monday.


Lawrence "Jack" J. Reynolds

Lawrence “Jack” “Larry” J. Reynolds, age 72, of Potosi, died on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, at his home in Potosi.  He was born on May 28, 1938, in Potosi, the son of Lawrence Peter and Lucille M. (Hauk) Reynolds.  Jack graduated from Cassville High School.  On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Linda Ann McCann at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi.  Jack was employed with the Dubuque Packing Company for many years.  He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Jack enjoyed playing cards and was always in search of the perfect cribbage hand.  He also liked fishing, playing the guitar, woodworking, hunting from his car and “saling” (a.k.a. going to garage sales).   

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by a grandson, Jermey Reynolds; a nephew, Terry Reynolds; and his brother, Bob Reynolds.

Marshall O. Reynolds, Sr.

Marshall O. Reynolds, Sr., age 77, died on Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at his home in Lancaster.  He was born on September 19, 1933, in Beetown Township, the son of Archie and Vera (Elwell) Reynolds.  Marshall graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951.  On September 25, 1954, Marshall was united in marriage to Jeannine D. Potter at the Lancaster United Methodist Church.  He started working for Elwell and Reynolds in Lancaster in 1958 and in 1984, he opened Reynolds Electric.  Marshall loved Ford cars, hunting, and life on the farm.  He was also an avid Green Bay Packer fan. 

Survivors include his wife of fifty-six years, Jeannine Reynolds, Lancaster; his children: Marsha Reynolds, Beetown; Kathy (Bill) Breuer, Cassville; Bill (Denise Johanning) Reynolds, Lancaster; Jay (Joanne) Reynolds, Stitzer; Steve (Amy Leffler) Reynolds, Lancaster; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; his brother, Hobart (Ramona) Reynolds, Lancaster; his sister, Lillian “Bid” (Dennis) Duncan, Beetown; sister-in-law, Connie Reynolds, Lancaster; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Marshall was preceded in death by a grandson, Caleb Breuer; a brother, Delano Reynolds; a sister, Wilma Sisley; two brothers-in-law, Ervin Hutchroft and Robert Sisley.

Patsy L. Rice

Patsy L. Rice, age 75, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Grant Regional Health in Lancaster.  She was born on April 27, 1936, in Lancaster, the daughter of George and Leona (Gabel) Pagenkopf.  Patsy graduated Lancaster High School in 1954.  She married Kenneth L. Rice in 1954.  Patsy was a bookkeeper for Kenneth L. Rice Builders, Elwell, Reynolds & Rice, and later for John’s IGA all in Lancaster.  In her retirement she was a self-employed housekeeper for many local businesses and residents.  Patsy was a member of the Bethlehem Evangelical & Reformed Church. She enjoyed crafts, collecting Christmas village pieces, and lending a helping hand to any one in need.  Patsy dearly loved spending time with her family and friends, camping and traveling.

Survivors include her sons; Tim (Beth) Rice, Poplar Bluff, MO.; Jeff (Marnie) Rice, Argyle; seven grandchildren Travis, Matt, Richelle, Trever (Stacia), Megan, Amber Rice and Micala Peterson. One great granddaughter, Bri Rice. Two sisters, Corene (Rex) Ries, Texas; and Karen (Rick) Cronbaugh, Iowa.

Patsy was preceded in death by her parents, and a brother Donald Ries.

Christine H. Richardson

     Christine H. Richardson, age 68, of Potosi, died on Sunday, April 27, 2008 at Heartland Health Care Center in Platteville.  She was born May 20, 1939 in Zwickau Sachsen, Germany, the daughter of Alfred Jo Hannes and Hildegard Elsa (Dittrich) Wetzel.  Christine attended and graduated from a school in Germany and received her nursing degree.  She was united in marriage to Edmund William Richardson on April 21, 1964 in Baumholder, Germany.  Christine moved to Potosi after the death of her husband on September 13, 1970.

     Christine was a mother of two daughters and five grandchildren.  She loved to spend time with her grandchildren.  Christine liked to go shopping and liked to crochet, especially clothes for dolls.  She also made many Santa Dolls.

     Christine is survived by two daughters; Dina (O’Brien) Brandenburg, Strawberry Point, Iowa and Christina Shaw, Potosi; five grandchildren; Danielle, Joshua, William, Jessie and Edmund; several brothers and sisters and many nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

     She is preceded in death by her parents and her husband, Edmund in

Levi E. "Lee" Richardson

     Levi E. “Lee” Richardson, age 82, passed away on Friday, January 8, 2010 at his home after a courageous six year battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on June 4, 1927, the son of James and  Alverna (Kress) Richardson in Potosi , WI .  Lee was drafted in the U.S. Army in 1945 and was stationed in Korea until his honorable discharge in 1947.  He was united in marriage to Betty Patzner on August 24, 1948 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson.  In addition to farming, Lee also worked for the Potosi Lead Mine and Potosi Brewery. 

       Lee enjoyed spending time on the river, especially camping and fishing with his family and friends.  He was also an avid reader.  Together, with his wife, Betty, they traveled to Hawaii , California , Scotland and England to visit their daughter, Vicki.  Lee was a member of the American Legion Post #473 of Potosi and was a member of St. Andrew in Tennyson, where he participated during mass.

       Lee is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty; five children:  Roger (Theresa) Richardson, Platteville, Ken (Dianna) Richardson, Potosi, Mark (Paula) Richardson, Potosi, Janis (Larry) Udelhofen, Lancaster and Lora (Jim) Siegert, Peosta, IA; 15 grandchildren:  Scot Freiburger, Tracy (Dawayne) Champion, Ricky (Angie) Richardson, Tina Richardson, Roger J. Richardson, Jennifer (Kevin) Kujawa, Jeremy (Wendy) Richardson, Julia Richardson, Mike (Becky) Richardson, Matthew Richardson, Marty Richardson, Jamie Udelhofen, Alexis and Shane Straka, Logan and Lindsey Siegert; 13 great-grandchildren:  Jade Freiburger, Kaleb, Ian and Sklya Champion, Brandon, Brooke and Preston Richardson, Noah Richarson, Jacob and Allan Richardson, Jordyn Robinson, Joseph Levi Richardson and Noah Ambrosy; a son-in-law, Kyle (Avis) Shaws, Yuma, AZ; four brothers and one sister:  Louis (Betty) Richardson, Dodgeville, Charlie (Pat) Richardson, Racine, Jim (Judy) Richardson, Fennimore, Ron (Ruth) Richardson, Platteville and Linda Simmons, Belmont; many nieces and nephews.

       He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Veronica “Vicki” Shaw and a sister, Esther Robinson.

       Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating.  Burial was held in St. Andrew Cemetery , Tennyson with Military honors accorded by the Berg Averkamp VFW Post No. 5276 and the American Legion Post. 473, both of Potosi .  Family and friends were welcome from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 11, 2010, where there was a scripture wake service at 3:00 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Tuesday at the Martin Funeral Home.

       The family wishes to extend a thank you to Hospice of Dubuque and Grant County Hospice.  They would also like to especially thank Tracy for her loving support and her devotion to her grandfather and family during this difficult time.


Francis B. Richgels

     Francis B. Richgels, age 90, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, July 31, 2008, at the Don and Marilyn Anderson HospiceCare Center in Madison.  He was born on June 7, 1918, in Fennimore, the son of Barney and Elizabeth (Bunzel) Richgels.  On September 2, 1941, Francis married Catherine Weber at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Madison.  She died on March 18, 1997.  He served in the United States Army during World War II.  After his service in the army, Francis and Catherine became residents of Lancaster, where he became an independent insurance agent in 1952, owned and operated the F.B. Richgels Agency until 1975, when the agency name was changed to the Richgels Schaefer Agency, Inc.  Francis retired from the insurance business in 1992.

     Francis was active in the Independent Insurance Agents Association of Wisconsin and the Southwest Wisconsin Insurance Agents Association.  He served on the Lancaster Zoning Board of Appeals for twenty years and as a volunteer for the cancer drives and the United Way.  He was also a board member of the Grant Regional Health Center Foundation, where he was instrumental in initiating the health center golf outing which continues as an annual event.  In 1987, Francis served as co-chair of the Capital Fundraising Campaign for the current health center.  He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, where he served as a parish trustee on the finance committee, and on the Special Gifts Campaign.  Francis served as a member of the Diocesan Strategic Planning Committee and was a member and former Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2820.

     Survivors include his children:  Bernadette Ann (Thomas) Schaefer, and Kathryn Elizabeth (Robert) Mumm, both of Lancaster; Thomas Bernard (Karla) Richgels, Madison; Paul Anthony (Jayne) Richgels, DeForest,; Michael Joseph (Ann) Richgels, Onalaska; and Teresa Ruth (Loren) Alderson, Fennimore; twenty-seven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; one son-in-law, Al Turner, Rockville, MD; two brothers: Lawras Richgels, Madison; and Jerome (Ann) Richgels, North Saint Paul, MN.

     In addition to his parents and his wife, Francis was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Frances Turner, and a great-granddaughter, Caitlin Elizabeth Recker, as well as two sisters and five brothers.

     Francis’s greatest joy in life was his family and his grandchildren.

     Funeral services were held on Monday, August 4, 2008, at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster at 10:30 a.m. with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 3, 2008 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services on Monday, August 4, 2008 at the church. 


David R. Riniker

David R. Riniker, age 71, left this earth on the fourteenth day of July, 2011, to be with God, the love of his life, Marjorie, and a son Davey, whom he has missed for many years.  David was born on December 4, 1939, the son of Jacob and Florance (Schmidt) Riniker in Galena, IL.  He married Marjorie Buscher on September 5, 1959, at Holy Ghost Church, Dubuque, IA.  David was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan, who enjoyed hunting, swimming, and watching classic Western movies.  He farmed near Ellenboro and has been enjoying retirement after thirty-five years of service at the John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works.

In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie in 2004, and his son, Davey, who died at the age of thirteen in 1977.

Survivors include his children:  Michelle (Dennis) Donar, Bloomington; Jayne (Melvin) Boebel, Deerfield; Susan (Ernest) Marquez, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; Sandra (Shane) Johnson, Great Bend, KS; and Dan Riniker, Mt. Hope; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

A celebration of David’s life took place with a potluck in Eagle Point Park in Dubuque, at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, 2011.  Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.


Ronald R. Rittenhouse

Ronald R. “Ron” Rittenhouse, age 76, of Cassville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 12, 2010, at Mercy Medical Center, Dubuque, IA, after a brief illness.  He was born on May 20, 1934, in a log cabin near Rushville, IL, the son of the late Ralph and Frances (Bowen) Rittenhouse.  On June 18, 1975, he was united in marriage to Jeanne Bernhardt.  Ron loved and worked in various capacities of the marine industry, which took him to Minnesota, Wisconsin, Missouri and Louisiana, before retiring in July 1998, and returning to Cassville.  He never crossed the river without looking for a towboat.  He enjoyed fishing, duck hunting, reading and spending time with family and friends.  Ron was a generous man and enlightened the hearts of all who knew him.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 35 years, Jeanne Rittenhouse, Cassville; his children: Gary Holt, and his children, Lisa and Brandon, all of Nashville, TN; Ann (John) Holt-Minard, their children, Morgan, Avery, and Luke, all of Janesville; Peyron (Mike) Nejedly, and their family, all of Jacksonville, FL; Colleen Hall and her family, all of S. Roxanna, IL; Harlan Rittenhouse and his family, all of Kansas City, MO; LeeAnn Giesen and her family, all of Dubuque, IA.

Funeral services were held on Monday, August 16, 2010, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Cassville with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial will be at a later date.  Family and friends called on Monday, August 16, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.  In lieu of plants and flowers, the family suggests memorials be given to the Eckstein Memorial Library, 1034 E. Dewey, Cassville, WI 53806.


Barbara J. Ritter

Barbara Ritter passed away peacefully with her husband by her side at her home in Cassville, Wisconsin, Saturday, May 1, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Born in Michigan, she moved from Texas to Cassville two years ago. She worked most recently as an Administrative Assistant for Steve Roberts Realty of Corpus Christi, Texas. Barbara had a particular zest for life and thoroughly enjoyed family, friends and being outdoors.  She is pre-deceased by her father, Walter R. McClenaghan, her step-father, Robert A. Klein, and former husband, Bill Quint. She is survived by her husband, Terry Ritter of Cassville, Wisconsin, her mother, Shirley Klein, and sister, Susan McCrone (Thomas) both of Corpus Christi, Texas, her nieces, Kathleen Murphy (Christopher) of San Antonio, Texas, and Mary Frintz (Chad) of Anchorage, Alaska, and daughters Tracy Guderyon (Brian) of Freeport, Illinois and Colleen Polhill (Eric) of Stockton, Illinois.  She is also survived by her great-nephews, Patrick and Braden, great-niece, Madeleine, grandsons, Jordan and Jerrad, and granddaughter, Alyssa.  Special thanks to loyal friends, the oncology team at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, and the hospice team of Grant County. Memorial services were held at St. John Lutheran church, Lena, Illinois on Saturday, May 8 at 10:30 am, and at St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Corpus Christi, Texas, at a time to be determined.

There will be a Memorial Fund established in Barbara’s name for lung cancer research.  In lieu of flowers, donations are appreciated.  Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is serving the family.


Ada L. Roberts

Ada L. Roberts, age 90, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, May 29, 2010, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Fennimore.  She was born on January 28, 1920, in Ellenboro Township, the daughter of George and Elsie (Eastman) Sandleback.  Ada graduated from Lancaster High School and attended Madison Business College.  She married Arno Hartman.  They had a son, Jimmy.  Ada later married Ed Roberts.  They had a daughter, Roberta.  Ada was a caregiver and a nurse who took care of many elderly persons in their homes.  She was a member of the Lancaster United Methodist Church and the Women’s Circle and she enjoyed crocheting, quilting, reading, playing bingo, doing jig saw puzzles and visiting with people.

Survivors include her grandson, Tim Hartman, Cassville; a great-granddaughter, Lisa Hartman, Monroe; and nieces and a nephew.

In addition to her parents and her husbands, Arno and Edward, Ada was preceded in death by her two children, James and Roberta; two brothers: Leslie (Marie) Sandleback and Elmer (Alice) Sandleback; three sisters: Delphia Sandleback, Genevieve (Frank “Pete”) Flesch, and Dorothy Sandleback.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster with Pastor Barbara Cook officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery in Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Tuesday, June 1, 2010, from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.


Eugene E. "Gene" Rodgers

     Eugene E. “Gene” Rodgers, age 83, of rural Patch Grove, entered into his Father’s heavenly home on Monday, February 15, 2010, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, after having been in poor health for several years. 

       Gene was born in Roseville, IL, on June 5, 1926, to John E. and Ethyle (Olsen) Rodgers.  He was educated in the Roseville schools.  On March 3, 1940, he accepted Christ as his Savior and faithfully served as a member of the Roseville Christian Church.  On June 3, 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, receiving his boot camp training at Great Lakes Training Base near Chicago.  He proudly served with the 3rd and 7th fleets in the Pacific area on the battleship, USS San Francisco.  On May 22, 1946, he was honorably discharged with a gunner’s mate 3rd class rank.

       He married Betty Ray in the Roseville Christian Church on December 7, 1947, and they farmed in the Roseville area, near Galesburg and Alexis, IL.  In 1966, they moved to their dairy farm south of Prairie du Chien.  Gene and Betty celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary last December.  They are the proud parents of Sharon, Terrell, TX; Julie Anne and Kerry, Onalaska; Loree (Bob) Nies, Patch Grove; Stephen (Tina), Muscoda; John and Robyn at home; he is grandpa to Jeremy (Cara) Rodgers, Gillette, WY; Joanie, Jessica, Jennalea, Renee, Monica, Skylar and Simon Rodgers of Muscoda; Allie and Carter Rodgers are his great-grandchildren in Wyoming; two brothers: Leland (Evelyn) and Rolland (Marjorie) Rodgers, both of Roseville, IL.

       He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Lois Fackler; a nephew, Mike Rodgers; an infant brother, Kenneth.

       Gene was a faithful member of the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien, having served as a deacon for many years.  He was a man of his word and testimony of what God can do in your life when you are totally committed to Him and He is first in your life and your dealings with others.  He is only separated from his beloved family for a short time until each one is called Home.  Jesus saith unto him, “I am the way, the truth and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me.” John 14:6.

       Funeral services were held at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien on Friday, February 19, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Andy Doll officiating.  Burial was in Union Nagle Cemetery, Patch Grove Township, near their home.  Family and friends were welcome at Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington on Thursday, February 18, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:30 p.m. and from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church on Friday.  In lieu of plants and flowers, an Eugene Rodgers memorial fund was established.


Patricia A. Roesch

Patricia A. Roesch, age 54, of Potosi , died Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at her home.  She was born on March 14, 1956 in Rockford , IL , the daughter of Virgil and Geneva ( Wayne ) Thingvold.  Pat graduated from Boscobel High School and received a Nursing Degree from Southwest Technical College in Fennimore.  She was united in marriage to Russell Salmon on November 25, 1976 , who preceded her in death on August 12, 1982 .  Pat was united in marriage to Paul Roesch on September 24, 1983 in Lancaster .  She worked as a Registered Nurse at Mineral Point Care Center for 15 years and was promoted to Director of Nursing.  The last several years, Pat was a RN at Southwest Health Center in Platteville.  Pat liked sewing, fishing, baking and especially loved to spend time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Paulie Roesch, Potosi; four children:  William J. Salmon, Potosi; Amanda J. (Sean) Fortney, Platteville; Nathanial E. (Tina) Salmon, Mt. Hope and Alisha M. (Bobbie) Keener, Owego, NY; a brother, Michael (Natalie) Thingvold, Potosi; 12 grandchildren:  Brenna, Austin, Tristin, Thomas, Taylor, Kevin, Tessa, Blake, Jordan, Nathanial Jr., Nathan and Myia; two brothers-in-law:  Dale (Judy) Roesch, Lancaster and Terry (Connie) Roesch, Glen Haven; two sisters-in-law, Linda Roesch (Al Chamberlain) and Gloria (Scott) Kraft, both of Boscobel; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her parents; a grandson, Keith; a granddaughter, Faith and her brother, Phillip Thingvold.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, July 8, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Schwartz Funeral Home (142 West Oak St. , 608.723.4500) in Lancaster with Teri A. Hanson officiating.  Burial was held in Boscobel Cemetery .  Family and friends were welcome from 10:00 a.m. until time of services Thursday at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers and plants, a Patricia A. Roesch Memorial Fund has been established. 


Robert C. "Bob" Roesch

Robert C. “Bob” Roesch, age 92, of Lancaster, died on Saturday, July 23, 2011, at the Lancaster Care Center, Lancaster.  He was born on July 14, 1919, in Potosi Township, the son of Arthur and Mary (McLaughlin) Roesch.  Bob attended Elmdale rural school and served as its board clerk until its closing.  He farmed his entire life on the Roesch family farm in Waterloo Township.  Bob was united in marriage to Lennice M. Davies on May 26, 1942, at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, IA.  He was a member of the West Grant Saddle Club and took great pride in his horses and driving team.  He was a proud member of the NFO, and a salesman for Madison Silo and Starline Farm Equipment.  Bob especially enjoyed and looked forward to all family gatherings. 

Survivors include his loving wife of sixty-nine years, Lennice, Lancaster; children:  Judy (Richard Taylor) Kleinfeldt, Madison; Jack (Linda) Roesch, Janis (Chuck) Yoose, Gary (Gale) Roesch, Dennis (Jane) Roesch, Alan Roesch, all of Lancaster; fifteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by a sister, Marcella (Joe) Case.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, July 26, 2011, at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Burial was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Monday, July 25, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. 


Loren C. Ross

     Loren C. Ross, age 89, of Bagley, died on Wednesday, December 23, 2009, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster.  He was born on May 16, 1920, in Edgewood, IA, the son of Loren and Laura (Hannah) Ross.  On April 27, 1941, Loren was united in marriage to Marjorie C. DeWitt.  He was employed at John Deere.

            Survivors include his six children:  Alan (Mary) Ross, Monroe, IA; Ramona Sedlmayr, Bagley, Laura Dukes, Tampa, FL; Leta Hying, Lancaster; Nelson (Debbie) Ross, El Run Heights, IA; and Beverly Ross, Rockford, IL; 28 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.

            In addition to his parents, Loren was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, a son, Loren J. Ross, a grandson, Jason Dukes, his son-in-law, Lloyd Sedlmayr, and a daughter-in-law, Donna Ross.

            There was no funeral service or visitation as was Loren’s wish.  Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.


Dolores A. Rumler

Dolores A. Rumler, age 77, of Bloomington, passed away on Saturday, August 06, 2011, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born September 8, 1933, on the family farm in Bagley, the daughter of Joe and Ann (Huser) Bierman. Dolores had eight children in her first marriage and on July 19, 1969, she married Donald Rumler and had one child. Dolores was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters. She was employed at LLC in Lancaster for many years. Dolores loved having her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren around her. Spending time in her flower gardens, crocheting, sewing, doing crafts, doll collection, puzzles and watching birds were of great interest to her.

Survivors include her husband, Donald Rumler, Bloomington; two step-sons, D. Wm. (Judy) Rumler, Elizabeth, CO; Larry E. (Vicki) Rumler, Moline, IL; nine children: Stephen (Erica) Hill, Madison; Barbara (Keith) Bohringer, Waunakee; Sandi (Curt) Mergen, Lancaster; Katherine (Randy) Strang, Cheyenne, WY; Bev (James) Broihahn, Lancaster; Joan Hill, Madison; Jacqueline (Rick) Clark, Mt. Hope; Gerri (Joe) Reuter, Lancaster; Ted (Amy) Rumler, Mt. Horeb; nineteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Joan) Bierman, Glen Haven; a sister, Mary Sue (Bill) Bausch, Cassville; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by a brother, Gerald Bierman and a nephew, David Bierman.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, August 9, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bloomington with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and friends called on Monday, August 8, 2011, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., where a 3:45 p.m. rosary was held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington. Friends also called on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Funeral Home in Bloomington is assisting the family.


Duane O. Rowe

Duane O. Rowe, age 76, died on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at his home in Lancaster.  He was born on July 3, 1934, in Kinross, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Mamie (Higgins) Rowe.  Duane graduated from high school in 1951, where he excelled in sports.  He graduated with a degree in Animal Husbandry from Iowa State University, where he was named Outstanding ROTC Cadet.  Duane was commissioned into the United States Army and was stationed at Ft. Sill, Ft. Lewis, and Ft. Huachuca.  Following his active duty, Duane served in the United States Army Reserve for six years.  On June 12, 1955, Duane was united in marriage to Virginia Ulrich at the First Evangelical Church in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Duane was employed as a livestock buyer in Iowa for Rath Packing Company, Iowa Pork, Iowa Beef, and Oscar Mayer.  He later transferred to Wisconsin as an Oscar Mayer district supervisor.  Duane also enjoyed his career as an agricultural loan officer and vice president for Union State Bank and as a loan officer for Federal Land Bank, but his first love was farming.  He farmed for more than 30 years, raising Simmental cattle and exceptional American Quarter Horses. 

Duane was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster. Duane enjoyed watching NASCAR and professional football, especially Brett Favre. He was well-read and well-educated, and could strike up an interesting conversation with everyone he met.  Duane loved children and was never too busy to saddle up a pony or take a wide-eyed youngster on their first tractor ride.  He loved his horses, shooting pool, and playing golf.

Survivors include: Virginia Rowe, Lancaster; children: Steve Rowe, Tucson, AZ; Dee Rowe, Minneapolis, MN; grandchildren: Valerie Rowe and Christine (David) Lee; great-granddaughter, Dominique Martinez; one sister: Betty (Robert) Steen, Davenport, IA; two brothers: Terry (Martha) Rowe, Peoria, IL; and Lynn (Joan) Rowe, Centennial, CO; Sally Metcalf and her family, Lancaster; other relatives and the many friends whose life he enriched!

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Funeral home in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating.  Procession by horse-drawn carriage to Hillside Cemetery was followed by burial with full military honors.  Family and friends called on Tuesday, October 12, 2010, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Funeral Home in Lancaster and from 9:00 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Duane O. Rowe Memorial Fund has been established.


Pearl M. Runde

Pearl M. Runde, age 87, of Lancaster, died on Thursday, April 14, 2011, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster.  She was born on February 17, 1924, in Beetown Township, the daughter of Harry and Hannah (Bast) Bass.  On December 27, 1941, she was united in marriage to Al Runde at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster.  Pearl loved to play cards, go fishing and gardening.

Survivors include her husband of sixty-nine years, Al Runde, Lancaster; her children:  Larry (Judy) Runde, Lancaster; Trudy Runde, Madison; Terry Runde, Manitowoc; grandchildren:  Amy Runde, Japan; Walt Runde, Berthoud, CO; Shannon (Mark) Broker, Neenah; Kristal Runde, Cross Plains; Karen Runde, Lancaster; and two great-grandchildren: Kaylee and Tyler Broker.

In addition to her parents, Pearl was preceded in death by her brother, Harold; sister-in-law, and one nephew.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 18, 2011, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating.  Burial was in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster.  Family and friends called on Sunday, April 17, 2011, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Pearl M. Runde Memorial Fund has been established.


Kenneth L. Ruchti

     Kenneth L. Ruchti, age 80, of Lancaster, passed from this life to his eternal life with God in Heaven on Friday, May 1, 2009, at his residence in Lancaster.  He was born on November 8, 1928, in rural Fennimore, the son of Lawrence and Wilma (Stenner) Ruchti.  He graduated from Fennimore High School in 1946.  On September 23, 1950, Kenneth was united in marriage to Charlotte Dodge.  He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War for sixteen months in Japan.  Kenneth was honorably discharged in January of 1954.  He spent his adult life working in the grocery business as a manager retiring from Dick’s in 1991.  Kenneth was a member of the Calvary Community Church and served as a hospital courier for Grant Regional Health Center until 2005.  He was also a member of the American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster.  Kenneth was a loyal Wisconsin Badger and Chicago Cubs fan. 

       In addition to his parents, Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, Glen in May of 2007.

       Survivors include his wife: Charlotte Ruchti, Lancaster; his son: Mark (Joyce) Ruchti, Elmhurst, IL; one grandson, Michael Ruchti, Elmhurst, IL; a brother: Bernard (Iva) Ruchti, Madison; a sister-in-law, Arlene Ruchti, Fennimore and his pet dog, Jake.

       Funeral services were held on Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at the Calvary Community Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Arevalo officiating.  Burial with military honors was in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster.  Friends called on Monday, May 4, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services as the church.  Schwartz Funeral Home is assisting the family.  In lieu of plants and flowers, a Kenneth L. Ruchti memorial fund has been established.


Jacquelyn J. Russell

     Jacquelyn Jean Russell, age 83, of Cassville, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 7, 2009, at her daughter’s home surrounded by her family.  She was born in Cassville on July 2, 1926, the daughter of John and Deanne (Oelke) Cathers.  Jackie grew up in Cassville and thoroughly loved being a part of the Adrian, Esser, and Bausch extended family.  After graduating from Cassville High School in 1942, and later Marquette University, she met Charles Russell.  Jackie and Chuck were married on May 30, 1949, at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville.  Some people remember the salute to the newly married couple by several B25 aircraft flying over Cassville that day.  Jackie always dreamed of having a large family and truly got her wish.  She was not only a loving and generous mom to her own family, but welcomed all neighborhood children into her home as well.  While raising nine children wasn’t easy, she had the patience of a saint and was always there to listen and guide us in the right direction.  When time allowed, Jackie loved to read, play bridge, sew, tend to her flowers and in her younger years, to dance the night away.  Jackie was a truly special and remarkable lady.  She will be forever missed by her husband of sixty years, children and grandchildren, especially Josh and Makylie.  Her beautiful, sweet smile will never be forgotten.  Mom our hearts are broken, but your spirit will live on in all of us.  We love you forever more.

       Funeral services were held on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church with Father William Seipp officiating.  Private family burial was in St. Mary’s Settlement, Cassville.  Friends called on Wednesday, October 14, 2009, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.  Martin Funeral Home in Cassville is assisting the family.
