Eileen M. "Dot" Schaefer

Eileen M. “Dot” Schaefer, age 97, of Potosi, passed away on Sunday, October 15, 2017, at Manor Care in Platteville. She was born on October 6, 1920 in Louisburg, WI, the daughter of Raymond and Loretta (Kuhle) Klaas. On June 26, 1940, she was married to Joseph J. Schaefer and their union was blessed with 8 children and many grandchildren. In addition to her strong faith, Dot’s life centered around her children and she spent many hours praying for them and their families. She loved family Christmas parties, baking cookies, and was known as “Grandma Shakes” later in life.
Surviving are 7 children: Joseph R. Schaefer, Atkinson, NH; Bill (Ina) Schaefer, Potosi; Mary (David) Timmerman, Platteville; Connie (Tim) Walsh, Dubuque, IA; Jerry (Deb) Schaefer, North Liberty, IA; Ruth (Sam Brinkman) Schaefer, Sun Prairie; and Denis (Sara) Schaefer, Grimes, IA; 18 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters: Loretta “Sis” Duggan, Platteville; Jane (Jim) Flogel, Dubuque, IA; Diane (Mike) Pitzen, Dickeyville; sister-in-laws, Jeanette Klaas and Judy Klaas; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Dot was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Gene; step-mother, Gen Klaas; 7 brothers: Urban, Merle, Robert, Herb, Kenny, John, and Msgr. Raymond E. Klaas; and a sister, Marie Muller.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 20, 2017 at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in St. Andrew Catholic Cemetery, Tennyson. Family and friends may call on Friday, October 20, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Eileen M. “Dot” Schaefer Memorial Fund has been established with proceeds going to the St. Andrew / Thomas Parish. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.
