Roswell Roy "Luckey" Luckey

January 27, 1927 — June 19, 2018

Roswell Roy “Luckey” Luckey, age 91, of Platteville, formerly of Lancaster, passed away Tuesday, June 19, 2018 at Manor Care in Platteville. He was born January 27, 1927 in Grant County, Wisconsin, the son of Roy Amos and Lillie Mae (Stitzer) Luckey. He was married to Marion Hazel Brauchler on April 5, 1947 at the Lancaster United Methodist Parsonage. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served from 1944-46, where he was stationed stateside. He was employed at Schurman’s Five Points Cheese Factory and later drove fuel for Haskin’s Gas and Oil. In his 55 years of truck driving, “Luckey” was proud that he only had two speeding tickets and no accidents. Roswell was a fireman on the Lancaster Volunteer Fire Department for over 27 years. He and Marion loved ballroom and square dancing. In retirement, they traveled throughout the Western states – enjoying camping, fishing, and hunting.

“Luckey” is survived by his children: Bob Arthur (Cornelia “Ellie”) Luckey and Bonnie Luckey Neubauer; four grandchildren: Jenna, Adam, Brett, and Hillary; eight great-grandchildren: Evan, Zoey, Jonah, Lila, Noah, Emma, Josh, and Jocelyn; sister-in-laws, Darlene Meighan and Jayn Luckey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, “Luckey” was preceded in death by his wife, Marion; a son-in-law, David Kenneth Neubauer; his sisters: Marian (John) Sachtjen, Marjorie (Wilson) Boebel, and Esther (Tom) Rezin; his brother, Larry Luckey; and a brother-in-law, Howard Meighan.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 22, 2018 at the Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Rev. Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Friends and family may call on Friday, June 22, 2018 at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Roswell Roy “Luckey” Luckey Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family.
