BEETOWN – Abraham Bontreger, age 93, of Beetown, passed away on Saturday, January 20, 2018, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Lancaster. He was born on February 1, 1924, in Lady Smith, the son of Moses and Mary (Lehman) Bontreger. Abraham attended school at Lady Smith before moving to Dazey, North Dakota. On May 11, 1953, he was united in marriage to Ardell J. Wagar in Valley City, ND. In 1961, the family relocated to Indiana and in 1971 moved to Wisconsin. In 1985, Abraham and Ardell moved back to Indiana where he was employed at Federal Press. In 2000, he retired and moved back to Wisconsin. Abraham was a member of the Beetown Gospel Hall. He enjoyed reading the Bible and had memorized a portion of the New Testament. Abraham also dearly loved fishing, gardening, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his children: Larry (Nancy) Bontreger, Minneapolis, MN; Alvin (Robin) Bontreger and Dale (Sharon) Bontreger, all of Beetown; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; his siblings: Amelia Ekstrand, Hinckley, MN; Jake (Lillian) Bontreger, Mesa, AZ; Ruben (Betty) Bontreger, Dazey, ND; his in-laws: Joe (Elinor) Wagar, Beetown; Ida (Jack) Berger, Sturgeon Lake, MN; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Abraham was preceded in death by his wife, Ardell in 2005 and his siblings: Sarah, Anna, Simon, Edna, Frances, and Mattie.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 27, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster, with Joel Frazier and Joe Wagar officiating. Burial will be in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends may call on Friday, January 26, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.
