Burnell John Mayne

Burnell John Mayne, age 92, of Beetown, passed away peacefully on Monday, November 5, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque, IA. He was born on September 11, 1926, in Waterloo Township, the son of Orlo and Lillian (Albee) Mayne. Burnell attended several country grade schools in the Potosi area and Cassville High School. On January 20, 1951, Burnell was united in marriage to Grace Thorpe. They celebrated their 67th Anniversary earlier this year. He was drafted into the United States Army and served his country from 1954 until his honorable discharge in 1956. Burnell was a member of the Thorpe Taylor American Legion Post No. 551 of Beetown for over 60 years. Burnell and Grace farmed for 36 years with his older brother, Cecil, and a lot of help from their five sons.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; five sons: Randy (Marla), Scottsdale, AZ; Gary (Terry), Lancaster; Kevin (Rhonda), Spring Green; Brian (Terry), Beetown; Kurtis (Rebecca), Missoula, MT; eight grandchildren: Tara (Brad) Austin; Matt (Ashlee) Mayne; Chris (Jodi) Mayne; Kyle Mayne; Kessa (Nik) Jacobs; Crystal (Dustin) Starrett; Mariah Mayne; Ty Mayne; eight great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alice "Leone" Mayne, Cassville; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Burnell was preceded in death by his brothers, Cecil, Sylvan, and Gerald (Iona "Sis") Mayne; and a sister, Darlene Mayne.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018, at 11:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster, with Reverend Mary Ann Floerke officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Beetown Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends may call on Friday, November 9, 2018, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Saturday
