Delano A. Ploessl

CASSVILLE – Delano A. Ploessl, age 83, of Cassville, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2017 at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born February 21, 1934 in Glen Haven Township, the son of John and Gertrude (Hochhausen) Ploessl. Del attended Peoples School, St. Charles School, and graduated from Cassville High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years after high school. Del was united in marriage to Shirley Seitz on August 6, 1960 at St. Clement Catholic Church, Lancaster. They owned and operated the Far Nuf Tavern, and he worked at John Deere in Dubuque. He worked construction for a time and helped build several local power plants. Del enjoyed hunting, fishing, and was a handyman who could fix anything. He loved spending time with his family – especially his nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. Del was a kind and loving uncle with a great humor who taught a lot of his skills to his nieces and nephews. They will miss him greatly because he was like a second dad to them.
He is survived by two sisters, Betty Breuer, Lancaster, and Sharon (Jim) Reynolds, Cassville; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews; and a sister-in-law, Nancy Gabel.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley, in 2013; and four brothers and sisters-in-laws: Donald (Helen), Melvin, Clifford (Helen), and Jim; brother-in-law, Francis Breuer; and sister-in-law, Sharon Moore.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 21, 2017 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors will be in St. Charles Cemetery, Cassville. Family and friends may call on Thursday, September 21, 2017 from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Delano A. Ploessl Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Cassville is serving the family.
