Douglas V Gotzinger

Douglas V. Gotzinger, age 75, of Potosi, passed away Wednesday, September 12, 2018 at his residence. He was born December 29, 1942 the son of Edward and Esther (Udelhoven) Gotzinger. Doug attended Boice Creek grade school and graduated from Potosi High School in 1960. He was united in marriage to Mary K. Schneider on May 18, 1963 at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster. Doug was employed at John Deere Dubuque Tractor works for over 37 years, retiring on June 30, 2002. He was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church. Doug enjoyed riding motorcycle, hunting, fishing, and camping. He loved spending time and playing cards with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving is his loving wife of 55 years, Mary; their daughters: Robin (James) Zenz and Renee (Joel) Vesperman; five grandchildren: Whitney and Brittany Zenz; Jared, Jade and Jena Vesperman: his siblings, Milton (Jeanette), Garland (Vyra), and Meredith "Sis" Gotzinger; a sister-in-law, Una Faye Gotzinger; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Doug was preceded in death by his brother David.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, September 15, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi with Fr. Richard Leffler officiating. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery. Family and friends may call Friday, September 14, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church, and on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Douglas V. Gotzinger Memorial Fund had been established with proceeds going to the Potosi Rescue Squad and the Ss. Andrew-Thomas roof fund. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is assisting the family.
