Gary W. Peacock

Gary W. Peacock, age 78, of Potosi, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at Grant Regional Hospital in Lancaster, of heart failure with his loving wife by his side. Gary was born on April 15, 1939, in Potosi, the son of Walter and Leila (Ehlen) Peacock. He graduated from Potosi High School. On May 4, 1963, he was united in marriage to Elizabeth H. "Betty" Oyen. Gary and Betty farmed in the Potosi area, he also worked at John Deere Dubuque Tractor Works, and later for over 15 years at Shakeproof Automotive Division in Lancaster, retiring in 2005. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing, and riding his four-wheeler. Gary looked forward to the annual camping trip with his family. He also enjoyed a good game of cards, throwing bean bags, and bowling. Gary was proud of the many "300" games that he bowled. He will be dearly missed by his family.

Survivors include his loving wife, Betty; their children: Tim (Lisa); Kim (Bill) Pluemer; Jamie (Christine); Chris (Kara); his sisters: Arlene Peacock; Marlene (Wayne) Schmeider; Karen (Clayton) Lange; Carol (John) Fecht; Mary Kay (Roger) McDonald; a brother, Ronnie (Shelly) Peacock; nine grandchildren: Danielle, Ellicia, Curtis, Cody, Nichalas, Zachary, Chelsea, Austin and Cole; six great-grandchildren; in-laws: Darlene Sabers, Cyril (Aleise) Oyen, La Vern (Marlene) Oyen, Margaret (Gerald) Eastlick, Doris (Pete) Neis, Ruth (Ronald) Richardson, Dale (Nancy) Oyen, sisters-in-law: Grace, Rita Oyen and Delores (Joe) Oyen–Stoker; nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gary was preceded in death by his son, Terry; his mother and father-in-law, Peter and Celestine (Brink) Oyen and their family: Linda Oyen; Harry (Rosie) Oyen; Eldon (Doris) Oyen; Philip, Nilus, Ronald, and James Oyen, and a brother-in-law, Eugene Sabers.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Potosi with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Private family burial will be at a later date. Family and friends may call on Friday, February 16, 2018, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster, where a 3:45 p.m. scripture service will he held. Friends may also call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Gary W. Peacock Memorial Fund has been established.
