Jesse Slaughter

PRAIRE DU CHIEN- Jesse J. Slaughter, age 72, passed away on June 30, 2021, at Lancaster Health Services in Lancaster. He was born on May 6, 1949, in Black Rivers, Wisconsin, the son of Jimmie and Betty (Hager) Slaughter. His childhood was spent in the McGregor, Iowa area. He graduated from MarMac High School in 1968, immediately following graduation he joined the United States Air Force. His basic training took place in California, and from there was sent on tour in Vietnam. At the conclusion of his time spent in the Air Force, he ended up in Grand Forks, North Dakota.
He moved from North Dakota to California where he started a new life as a specialist in painting. He then married Jean Robar. Together, they moved to Michigan, where he worked in automotive manufacturing. Following his retirement, he returned to the Prairie du Chien area. Jesse always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. His favorite was starting his sentences with, "Way back in '39…."
Jesse is survived by his wife, Jean; sisters, Janet (Kenny) Matthews of Prairie du Chien, Evelyn (Myron) Brye of St. James, MN; Tammy (Shawn) Rose of Minong; and a brother, Raymond Slaughter of Oklahoma; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Marietta Petsche.
He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him.
A memorial gathering with Military Honors in remembrance of Jesse's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 1, 2021, in the pavilion at 38298 Bouska Road in Prairie du Chien. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.
