Perry G. Ahnen

May 25, 1942 — January 4, 2022

Perry G. Ahnen, age 79, of Lancaster passed away Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at his home surrounded by his wife and children. Perry was born on May 25, 1942, in Steuben, Wisconsin, the son of Ernest and Marietta (Rice) Ahnen. He graduated from Boscobel High School in 1960. Perry enlisted in the United States Army, serving during the Vietnam War, and was involved in the 101st Airborne Division. Upon his enlistment in the Army, he discovered that his birth certificate read Perry, although he had been going by his birth name, Terry for the first 18 years of his life. Following this discovery, he began to go by the name we all knew him as, Perry. He married Susan F. Laufenberg on October 28, 1967. Perry began his career in law enforcement as a dispatcher with the Grant County Sheriff's Department. He worked briefly for the Boscobel Police Department, then returned to Grant County Sheriff to become a detective. He was a member of the Richard Burns American Legion Post #109 in Lancaster. Perry retired in 1995, after 32 years of law enforcement service to the community, and later owned a private investigation business. He enjoyed any and all kinds of fishing and loved cooking for his family. Perry was long range rifle shooting coach for his son Mac. He will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Susan; a daughter, Candice (CJ) Ruppert; a son, Mac (Jennifer Olin) Ahnen; a granddaughter, Vivian Ruppert; his sister-in-law, Cheryl Ahnen; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Perry was preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice (Keith) Marks and Beatrice (Vernon) Campbell; and a brother Dennis Ahnen.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Perry Ahnen Memorial Fund has been established with proceeds being given to local charities. Cards of condolence can be sent to Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory P.O. Box 30, Lancaster, Wisconsin 53813.
