Russell Lowell Govier

LANCASTER – Russell Lowell "Russ" Govier, age 92, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. He was born on September 28, 1924, the son of Floyd and Carolyn (Cooley) Govier. On January 19, 1946, Russ was united in marriage to Dorothy Lucille Oates. He served in the United States Army during World War II in France and the Philippines and continued his service in the Army National Guard. Russ farmed in Little Grant Township and then later was employed at Dubuque John Deere Tractor Works until his retirement. He was a member of the William Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 of Lancaster and the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109.
Survivors include his children: Dennis (Melody) Govier, Fennimore; John (Nancy) Govier, Tucson, AZ; Carol Burton, Lancaster; five grandchildren: Carylee (Dan) Gressman, Fennimore; Angelia (Josh) Dewitt, Tucson, AZ; Jeremy (Lorena) Govier, Tucson, AZ; Kristine (Don) Millikin, Janesville; Jim Burton, Lancaster; 12 great-grandchildren: Daniel Gressman, Edmond; Rachel (Tim) Dehnart, Viroqua; Timothy Gressman, Wichita Falls, TX; William, Gideon, Katrina, and Anne Gressman, all of Fennimore; Max and Violet Govier, Tucson, AZ; Brittany (John) Striegel, Janesville; Chrystal Burton (Jeremy Blaedow), Janesville; Dylan Mullikin, Janesville; four great-great grandchildren: River Dehnart, Viroqua; Benjamin Striegel, Nathan Blaedow, and Mackenzie Mulliken, all of Janesville.
In addition to his parents, Russ was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy; son-in-law, Marshall Burton.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 31, 2017, at 10:00 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison Street, Lancaster with retired Pastor Dennis Govier officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Little Grant Cemetery, Little Grant Township. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers a Russell Govier Memorial Fund has been established with proceeds supporting the American Legion and VFW Posts.
