William J. "Joe" Ingram

February 15, 1935 — February 19, 2023

William Joel “Joe” Ingram passed away in the early morning on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at Southwest Health in Platteville. He was born on February 15, 1935, to Juniata (Voorhees) and Horace Ingram. Joe spent his early years in the Asheville, North Carolina area. He served his country in the United States Navy Seabees from 1952 to 1956, spending most of that time in the Philippines. After the Navy, Joe came to Platteville to attend the Wisconsin Institute of Technology from 1956 to 1960. During that time, he met Helen Stark, and they married in 1958. Helen preceded Joe in death in 2002.

Joe owned and operated a small business in Platteville called The TV Clinic from 1962 to 2003. He was an avid outdoorsman who owned a cabin near Hayward, Wisconsin, for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and especially birdwatching. Joe was a well-rounded and well-read person who liked literature and poetry, and in particular the poems of Robert Service, many of which he could recite from memory. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed traveling to historical places and never stopped being curious.

Joe was one of nine siblings, and one of his brothers was NASCAR legend Jack Ingram, who preceded Joe in death in June 2021.

Joe is survived by his sister-in-law, Aline Ingram, many nieces, and nephews who were dear to him, and by close friends, Joyce Wisnewski, Al Otto, and Al’s children who considered Joe family.

A special thanks to St. Croix Hospice, especially Teri, Jody, and Chaplin K for their excellent care.

Private graveside services will be held at a later date. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is entrusted with Joe’s care.
