Adeline L. Brunton, age 103, of Platteville, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 28, 2019, at Edenbrook, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on October 1, 1916, at the family farm by Banfield bridge, the daughter of August and Barbara (Maring) Pickel. At age 16, Adeline worked for a judge cleaning his home. She was later employed at Ed’s Café, Taylor Café, Butterball Bakery, and J&B Restaurant. On June 1, 1938, she was united in marriage to Ambrose Brunton in Dubuque, IA. Adeline was employed at the Platteville High School as a cook for ten years, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the First English Lutheran Church in Platteville. Adeline enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, coloring, playing cards, and watching “Wheel of Fortune.” She was a loving and caring mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Adeline will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her children: Annette (John) Oellrich, New Prague, MN; Sam (Collene) Brunton, Austin, MN; Betty (Denny) Dartsch, Wisconsin Dells; Sandra (Scot) Harcus, Cuba City; Kathy Leahy, Rockton, IL; Mary (James) Gobrecht, Belmont; Deborah (John) Quinn, Roscoe, IL; Nancy (Steve) Weigel, Platteville; Sue (Neil) McKenna, Platteville; 23 grandchildren; 37 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Adeline was preceded in death by her husband, Ambrose in 1994; her son, Arthur in 2016; two grandchildren, William and Tina Gobrecht; and a son-in-law, Jim Leahy in 2018.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 3, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church in Platteville with Pastor Naomi Garber and Intern Pastor Jamie Reising officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Platteville. Family and friends may call on Thursday, January 2, 2020, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at First English Lutheran Church and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Platteville is serving the family.
