Betty J. Emler

Betty Jean Emler, age 93, passed away on Sunday, March 17, 2019, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born on December 27, 1925, in British Hollow, the daughter of Floyd and Edna (Gerhard) Richardson. On May 24, 1947, Betty was united in marriage to Harlan J. "Rink" Emler in Lancaster. She was a loving wife to Rink for over 71 years. Her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy. She was an amazing cook and made the best cinnamon rolls, which many enjoyed. Betty loved spending her time making her house a home, raising her kids, and watching her grandkids. Everyone was always welcome at Rink and Betty's house. Her kind smile touched many. We were truly lucky and blessed to call her Mom and Grandma.
Survivors include her sons: Alan "Sam" (Bernie) Emler; Rocky (Roseann) Emler; son-in-law, Jim Berntgen; one brother: Leroy "Slick" (Marge) Richardson; 5 grandchildren: Troy (Cheri) Berntgen; Lisa (Eric "Benny") Gotzinger; Chad (Missy) Emler; Heather (Marcus Groom) Emler; Ryne (Heidi) Emler; 9 great-grandchildren: Katie (Justin) Roling; Megan Berntgen; Kaylynn Vosberg; Cooper, Addie, Connor, Wyatt, Tucker and Vera Emler; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by her mother and father-in-law, Harold and Ella Emler; a daughter, Barbara Berntgen; a great-grandson, Kyle Vosberg; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Edward (Lois) Richardson; Harvey (Sharon) Richardson.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 21, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Orchard Manor Nursing Home Chapel with Reverend Pamela Strakeljahn officiating. Private family burial will be held in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster, at a later date. Family and friends may call on Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at Orchard Manor Nursing Home Chapel. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Betty Jean Emler Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.
