Darwin C. Clifton, age 71, of Potosi, passed away on Tuesday, March 9, 2021, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 1, 1949, the son of Carson and Arlene (Nickel) Clifton. Darwin attended Hurricane country school and graduated from Lancaster High School. On March 22, 1969, he was united in marriage to Beth E. Gelbach. Together they farmed in Waterloo Township. Darwin worked for Select Sires as AI Technician and branded cattle. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster and enjoyed hunting, fishing, NASCAR, and feeding the birds. Darwin retired from farming in 1992 and Select Sires in 2016.
Survivors include his loving wife, Beth; a daughter, Alicia (Pat) Valentine and their children: Nick (Dani Jo) and their daughter, Kinsley, Megan (fiancé Ty Frank) Valentine and their son, Carter; Ben Clifton and his children: Heidi, Caleb, Arlie, and Sylvia; Jeff (Susan) Clifton and their children: Maddie and Ella; his siblings: Diane (Dennis) Wieland; David (Shelly) Clifton; Dixie (Ken Balik) Clifton; Dawn (Al) Mergen; in-laws: Rachel Hall and David Gelbach.
In addition to his parents, Darwin was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Earl and Grace Gelbach and a brother-in-law, Jim Hall.
Private family funeral services will be held Saturday, March 13, 2021, at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Mark Hoehne officiating. Private family burial will be held at a later date. Family and friends may call on Friday, March 12, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison St., Lancaster.
