Dickie F. Schiffman

Dick F. Schiffman, age 63, of Potosi died Tuesday, February 3, 2009 at Mercy Medical Center in Dubuque after a lengthy battle with heart disease and diabetes. He was born on June 1, 1945, the son of Harry and Virginia (Pickett) Schiffman. Dick was united in marriage to Shirley Gassen on June 25, 1966 at Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi. He was a self-employed carpenter and took great pride in his work. Dick was also a retired member of the Potosi Fire Department and Rescue Squad.

Dick enjoyed many activities including hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, gardening and going to the cabin up north near Rib Lake. He also liked to play cards, work on puzzles, watch westerns and football games. His children and grandsons were his pride and joy.

Dick is survived by his wife, Shirley, Potosi; two children, Randy Schiffman, Potosi and Becky (Roger) Egan, Cuba City; two grandsons, Alex and Eric; three brothers and three sisters: Don (Eileen) Schiffman, Bagley, Doug (Marion) Schiffman, Cassville, David (Connie) Schiffman, Caledonia, IL, Darlene OFarrell, Riverside, CA, Shari (James) Udelhoven, Potosi and Debbie Dirksen, Roscoe, IL; two brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law: David Gassen, Potosi, Ronald (Debbie) Walker, Soldotna, AK and Jackie (Dick) Friesen, Cuba City; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ilene Tracy and Diana and Robert Pasold and a brother, Dale Schiffman.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 6, 2009 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Teri A. Hanson officiating. Burial was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Town of Potosi. Family and friends were welcome on Thursday, February 5, 2009 from 4:00 until 8:00 p.m. and on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services all at the funeral home.
