LANCASTER – Dorothy Maxine Behncke, age 104, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at Morningside Assisted Living in Lancaster. She was born on August 7, 1917, in Beetown Township, the daughter of Leo and Mae (Budworth) Vogt. On November 10, 1938, Dorothy was united in marriage to Leonard O. Behncke. Together they were longtime farmers. They retired in 1979 and in October of 1983 moved into Lancaster where they have resided since. Dorothy took up arts such as painting, and ceramics. She also enjoyed crocheting, embroidering, and baking cookies for her family. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the Lancaster Congregational Church.
Survivors include her 8 children: Maxine Freymiller, Oklahoma City, OK, Allen (Marilyn) Behncke, Moline, IL, Nancy (Chuck) Schramm, Potosi, WI, Larry, Tucson, AZ, Mary Ann Stappert, Potosi, WI, Jenette (Jim) Ward, Wister, OK, Roger (Elaine), Tucson, AZ, and Dale Behncke, Deerfield, WI; 34 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; 25 plus two in the oven great-great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husband, Leonard, Dorothy was preceded in death by a brother, Russell Vogt; a granddaughter, Sherie Willett, and a son-in-law, Bob Stappert.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster with Pastor Bob McKelvey officiating. Private family burial will be in Hurricane Cemetery, South Lancaster Township. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Dorothy M. Behncke Memorial Fund has been established where funds will be donated to Dorothy's favorite charities.
