Eugene W. Metcalfe

Eugene W. “Gene” Metcalfe, age 90 of Cassville, WI, passed away Friday, August 23, 2019 at home surrounded by family. He was born in Glen Haven, WI, on September 11, 1928 the son of Raymond and Lillian (Walz) Metcalfe. Gene was young at heart and curious his entire life. His adventurous bug hit at an early age when he joined and traveled with the rodeo as a bulldogger (steer wrestling). He then met the love of his life, Mary Adrian, and settled down in Cassville, where he had a family and became a lineman/electrician for 40 years at Wisconsin Power and Light – Nelson Dewey Generating Station. His true passion was spending time with his family and friends and appreciating nature. His curiosity and young spirit permeated everything he did. This was shown by taking boat rides, teaching his grandkids how to drive, water skiing and going off the rope swing when he was 70 years old. As Gene grew older, his spirit seemed to only get younger. He might buzz by on his scooter heading to the “coffee club”, take his loved ones to Johnny’s farm (where he tended to the vegetable garden, fed the cats and cows), or simply sit in the swing chair, where he just “took it all in”. Whether you encountered Gene from afar or up close, you probably felt a youthful smile across your face that certainly matched the one already on his.

Gene is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mary; daughters; Jean (Terry) Sielaff and Joan (Kevin Udelhofen) Jackson; six grandchildren: Nathan (Jackie) Metcalfe, Adrienne (Dave) Doll, Paul Metcalfe, Jessica (Keith) Kusmirek, John Sielaff, and Ryan Jackson; five great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Makenzie, Penny, Mari, and Michael; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his son, Michael; and two brothers: Robert (Mary) Metcalfe and Russell (Donna) Metcalfe.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in the Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends may call on Saturday, August 31, 2019 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Eugene W. “Gene” Metcalfe Memorial Fund has been established. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Cassville is entrusted with his services.
