Grace Anna Burkhard, age 86, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, June 12, 2022, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born September 16, 1935, in Arthur, the daughter of Paul and Gladys (Nodolf) Burkhard. Grace attended grade school in Arthur and then Platteville High School. She lived much of her life in Arthur. Grace took pride in babysitting, worked in the kitchen of her parent’s tavern in Arthur, and lastly many years at the CEECO-REN Plant in Lancaster. In 1986 she moved to Lancaster to be closer to her family. Grace had a very special outlook on life and could always find something kind to say about everyone. That was a very special gift. She had a positive attitude and saw the beauty in God’s creations. She loved children and animals and they could do no wrong in her eyes. Grace enjoyed visiting, gardening, traveling, watching the birds and animals and just life itself. She was an inspiration to everyone she met. Grace attended the Arthur United Methodist Church until moving then attended the Lancaster United Methodist Church regularly. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge for many years until the lodge closed.
She is survived by her brother-in-law, Lawrence “Arkie” Specht of Lancaster; several cousins both here and in Switzerland, but she was especially close to her cousins: Neva (Paul) Marx and their family of Madison, WI, Kelly (Bernie) Alt and family of Lone Rock (Grace babysat Kelly in her early years). Arkie’s family also thought of Grace as a part of their family; and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Marie Specht.
