BAGLEY – Gwendolyn M. “Gwen” Johnson, age 76, of Bagley, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at her home. She was born July 14, 1947, the daughter of Peter and Eileen (Adrian) Brinkman. Gwen graduated from Cassville High School in 1966. On May 28, 1966, she was united in marriage to Jon L. Johnson at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville. In 1972, Gwen began her employment with Dubuque John Deere Tractor Works. She was one of the first females hired at John Deere to work on the floor. They called themselves “The Deere 12.” Gwen would ride a bicycle to deliver parts to various assembly lines. Among her duties, she was involved in all aspects of the construction equipment division. She could set track on bulldozers and drive them off the assembly line to the parking lot. Gwen was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. She and Jon enjoyed boating and fishing on the Mississippi River and traveling on their Harley’s. Gwen was very proud of her family and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her sons: Jon (Karla) Johnson, Bagley; James (Linda) Johnson, New Berlin; grandchildren: Sara (Ryan Paynter) Radloff, Amber (Joe) Reynolds, Jacob (Ericka) Johnson, Jasen (Cheyanne Pierce) Johnson, Justin (Emilie Rojemann) Johnson, Caleb (Madison Kirschbaum) Irish, Verity (Bo Kluesner), Peter, Jessica Johnson, Haley and Celia Gironimi; ten great-grandchildren with one on the way; her siblings: Sandra Adams, Rick Brinkman, Pat (Dave) Udelhoven, Renee (Mick) Leibfried, Mike, Jeff (Sue Seyfried) Brinkman; a sister-in-law, Carol Brinkman.
In addition to her parents, Gwen was preceded in death by her husband, Jon in 2008; a grandson, Jon Paul Johnson; her sister, Joyce (Walter) Fishnick; a brother, Gary “Brink” Brinkman; a brother-in-law, Gary “Ben” Adams.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Settlement Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Monday, February 19, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville and on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
