Henry J. "Hank" Stohlmeyer, 81, of Potosi, passed away on Friday, April 28, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster, WI. He was born on October 8, 1935, in Potosi, the son of Clarence and Evelyn (Schmelz) Stohlmeyer. Henry graduated from St. Andrew Catholic High School in 1953. He entered the US Naval Reserve. On April 11, 1955, Hank was united in marriage to Celine Ryan at Sylvia Switch Church, Zwingle, IA. He was employed with Dubuque Packing Company, FDL, and Knights of Columbus as an Insurance Field Agent. In his early years, Hank enjoyed operating Stohlmeyer LTD. He, along with his son, Steven, and numerous friends, put in numerous lawns in the Tri-State area and collected garbage in the Tennyson area. Hank enjoyed bowling, playing softball, cards with friends, and cribbage. Over the years, he prepared many individuals income tax returns. Hank was a member of St. Andrew Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, including 4th Degree, the Catholic Knights Branch 42, and the Tennyson Village Board.

Surviving are his loving wife of 62 years, Celine; their son Steven (Cheryl) Stohlmeyer, daughters Stacey (Bruce) Gardiner and Susan Stohlmeyer, their grandchildren Tiffany (David) Sarnowski, Tim Stohlmeyer, Tyler Stohlmeyer, Tia Stohlmeyer, Beth (Nicholas) Gladis, Brooke Gardiner, and Jacob Schmitt, his siblings Michael (Elizabeth) Stohlmeyer, Harold (Mary Pat) Stohlmeyer, Eva Lyons, Pauline "Teenie" Wiezorek, William (Mary Ellen) Stohlmeyer, Mary Ann (Bob) Durst, brother-in-law, Richard Powers, sister-in-law, Sandra Stohlmeyer, brother-in-law, Loras Collins, and sisters-in-law, Mildred Ryan, Rosalee Donahue, Joyce Till, and Leann Laughlin, many nieces and nephews, as well as other relatives.

In addition to his parents, Hank was preceded in death by his daughter Sandra Stohlmeyer, his twin sister Elizabeth "Betty" Powers, siblings Harriet Stohlmeyer, Paul Stohlmeyer, and Joseph "Bimp" Stohlmeyer, brothers-in-law, Tom Lyons and Edward "Ed" Wiezorek, and members of the Ryan and Laughlin families.

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Bernie Rott officiating. Burial was in the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Key West, IA. Family and friends called on Monday, May 1, 2017, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson where a 2:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary was prayed. Family and friends also called on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Henry J. "Hank" Stohlmeyer Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi is serving the family.

The family would like to thank the staff of Orchard Manor Nursing Home in Lancaster for their care. The family would also like to thank Dr. Jared Freiburger, from Medical Associates Clinic, High Point Family Medicine physicians and staff, and Grant County Hospice.
