Iona "Sis" Mayne

Iona Elizabeth "Sis" Mayne, age 83, of Beetown left this earth on January 29, 2017, to go dance with the love of her life Gerald William Mayne, who preceded her in death on January 6, 2017. She was born on July 24, 1933, in Glen Haven, the daughter of Jeff and Elsie (Skinner) Duncan. Iona graduated from Lancaster High School in 1951. On November 15, 1954, she was united in marriage to Gerald Mayne. After their marriage, the couple farmed in Beetown and raised six children. Sis enjoyed camping, playing cards, crocheting, traveling and cooking. She dearly loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include her six children: Marty (Julie) Mayne, McGregor, IA; Melinda (Bruce) Taylor, Mineral Point; Patricia (Tom) Carroll, Lancaster; Ricky (Sue) Mayne, Bloomington; Ronny (Lisa) Mayne, Wisconsin Rapids; Debbie (Walt) Taylor, Lancaster; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren and one on the way; her brother, Dennis (Lillian "Bid") Duncan, Beetown; sisters-in-law, Shirley Duncan, Lancaster and Leone Mayne, Cassville; brother-in-law, Burnell (Grace) Mayne, Beetown; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to her parents and her beloved husband of 62 years, Gerald, Iona was preceded in death by her father and mother-in-law, Orlo and Lillian Mayne; her brother, Norman Duncan; her in-laws: Darlene Mayne, Cecil Mayne and Sylvan Mayne.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 1, 2017, at 11:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory, 1234 S Madison, Lancaster with Pastor Pam Strakeljahn officiating. Burial was in Burns Cemetery, Beetown. Family and friends called on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of plants and flowers a Iona E. "Sis" Mayne Memorial Fund has been established.
