 Jerry A. Cardey, age 72, of  Potosi died Friday, November 28, 2008 at Orchard Manor in rural Lancaster. He was born on March 15, 1936 in Waterloo Township, Grant County, the son of Ellsworth and Birdie (Johnson) Cardey. Jerry attended Elmdale School and graduated from  Potosi High School. He was united in marriage to Harriet Thill on August 1, 1959 in Potosi. Jerry worked as a television repairman for Murray Electric of Lancaster for 31 years. He also tended bar in  Potosi.

Jerry was a member of Davies Memorial United Church of Christ in Potosi and served as a deacon. He also was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Warrens #4 FA&M in Potosi. Jerry liked to hunt, fish, play golf and he loved to attend his grandchildrens activities. His grandchildren were his greatest joy.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Harriet of 49 years; his three children, Tim Cardey (fianc, Tami), Potosi, Rick (Angie) Cardey, Rib Lake and Amy (Tony) Gehl, Peosta, IA; six grandchildren, Teri Cardey, Madison, Kurt Cardey, Potosi, Jordan and Kaitlyn Cardey, Rib Lake and Madeline and Zachary Gehl, Peosta, IA; Tamis children, Danielle and Dana; two nieces and two nephews, Ronnie (Deb) Walker, Soldotna, AK, Shirley (Dick) Schiffman, Potosi, Jackie (Richard) Friesen, Cuba City and David Gassen, Potosi.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Frank and Veva Thill; his granddaughter, Tami Jo Cardey and his sister and brother-in-law, Jean and Cletus Gassen.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 1, 2008 at Martin Funeral Home in Potosi with Teri A. Hanson officiating. Burial was held in Van Buren Cemetery, Town of Potosi. Family and friends were welcome on Sunday from 3:00 until 8:00 p.m. where there was a Masonic Service at 6:00 p.m. and on Monday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services all at the funeral home.

The Cardey family would like to thank all the staff at Orchard Manor for the excellent care Jerry received these past 4 years.
