BLOOMINGTON – Joanne Alice Cliff, age 83 of Bloomington, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2020, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home. She was born October 14, 1936, at St. Francis Hospital in La Crosse to Joseph and Alice (Stone) First. Joanne was baptized at St. Mary's Catholic Church in La Crosse. She attended Holy Trinity elementary school. The family moved to Prairie du Chien when Joanne was in the 6th Grade. She graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Prairie du Chien. Joanne married Dorland L. Cliff on November 27, 1954. She graduated from Northwestern Iowa Community College as an LPN in 1980 and worked at Lancaster Memorial Hospital for 20 years. Joanne lived in Bloomington from 1966 until she needed to go to Orchard Manor Nursing Home in 2016. She enjoyed quilting, doll making, and reading. Joanne was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her legacy is her children and their families.
Surviving is her loving husband, Dorland; their children: Kim Cliff, Linda (Chester) Hilton, Kerry (Mary Lou) Cliff, Tamie (Gary) Uting, Becky (Jeff) Roskos, Jan (Tanya) Cliff; 15 grandchildren: Christopher Hilton, Joanna Benrud, Dylan Cliff, Casey Cliff, Justin Uting, Chad Uting, Shayla Pankow, Kylie de Werd, Amanda Ziehme, Cassie Weber, Whitney Roskos, Brian Cliff, Ethan Cliff, Alannah Cliff and Austin Cliff; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Rita (Duane) Amundson; two sisters-in-law: Juanita and Linda.
In addition to her parents, Joanne was preceded in death by her brothers, Jerome and Richard First.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, January 21, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Fr. John Meinholz officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bloomington. Family and Friends may call on Monday, January 20, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church with a 3:45 p.m. parish rosary. Friends may also call on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory of Bloomington is assisting the family.
