John Okey, a devoted husband, father, son, brother, and lifelong carpenter, passed away on May 3, 2025, surrounded by those who loved him. He was 61 years young.
John spent his life building not just homes and structures but also put his strength and love into every project he did. He had a deep love for the outdoors whether it was sitting peacefully on his yard bench soaking in the fresh air, riding his Harley on open roads, grilling for loved ones, dressing up for Halloween, or wandering the woods in search of mushrooms. The river was one of his favorite places, and many memories were made around campfires he lit with care.
He shared 30 wonderful years with his wife, Melissa Okey, and was the proud father of four children: Josh, Alicia, Wade, and Shane and Grandchildren: Malorie, Adriana, Corey, Kayson, and Evelyn. John's legacy lives on in them, and in the values of hard work, love, and strength that he passed down.
He is survived by his parents, Denny and Darlene Okey, and his siblings: Jeff (Monica) Okey, Lori (Dion) Nemitz, Suzi Okey, and Amy (John) Adrian along with Melissa's siblings Jeff (Amy) Krohn, Tammy Hudson, and Kandy (Matt) Walker and all his nieces and nephews.
John also had a special place in his heart for his pets, who brought him great comfort and joy.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him, remembered for his steady hands, warm heart, and the quiet joy he found in life’s simple moments.
A celebration of John's life will be held this Friday, May 9th, 2025, at J&J Sandbar from 4:00 – 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor John's memory by taking a moment to enjoy the outdoors, share a meal with someone you love, or simply sit in the fresh air and reflect. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
