BLOOMINGTON - John Edward Sherman, 86, of Bloomington, passed away on Saturday, April 13, 2024. Born on May 24, 1937, in Bloomington to the late Alberta and Frank Sherman, John was a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished grandfather and great grandfather.
John graduated from Bloomington High School and soon after married his high school sweetheart, Jeanette Zimmer, in 1957. Pursuing his passion for metalwork, he earned a degree in welding from Southwest Tech. This led him to establish Sherman's Welding, where he spent many years working closely with local farmers and community members, designing and repairing metal parts. He was dedicated to his craft and his community in Grant County, where he lived all his life.
John is survived by his daughter, Milli (Jim) Lindell of Dousman; his son, Doug (Susan) Sherman of Madison; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was humble and kind, and will be remembered for his gentle spirit and generous heart.
John loved fishing on the Mississippi River, boating, and camping on its islands with his family. He was also a fan of Wisconsin sports, cheering on the Brewers, Bucks, and Packers through the seasons. John drove his beloved 1968 orange VW Bug with pride and spent countless hours in his welding shop, where he expressed his creativity through metal fabrication.
John will be deeply missed by all who knew him. A private service will be held at his internment at Scott Cemetery. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.
