Lynn Joseph "Joe" Metcalf, age 88, of Bloomington, passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on April 27, 1933, the son of Matthew Glenn and Alberta (Kuenster) Metcalf. Joe graduated from Bloomington High School in 1951. He served his country in the United States Army from June of 1956 to December of 1957. Joe farmed with his father and took over the family farm in Glen Haven Township until his retirement in 2009. He then moved to Bloomington where he enjoyed driving Amish families around. Joe will be missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include two sisters: Glenice (Ron) Matthews; Ruth (Roger) Crubel; many nieces and nephews: Joe (Amy) Matthews, Tom (Lisa) Matthews, Roger (Jill) Esser, Regina (Bob) Wernimont, Shari McCann, John Ralph, Greg (Debbie Pirus) Esser, Theresa (Larry) Klein, Doug (Annette) Esser, Donna (Brad) Waite, Robert (Brandy) Crubel; along with many great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.
In addition to his parents, Joe was preceded in death by a sister and brother-in-law, Myrna and Mark Esser and their infant son, Thomas, and a niece, Jenny Ralph.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, November 12, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Church in Glen Haven with Father John Meinholz officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Gockel Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Family and friends may call on Friday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Joe Metcalf Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington is assisting the family.
