Melrose O. Stoney, age 93, of Potosi, passed away on Monday, December 9, 2019, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born on January 17, 1926, the daughter of Glen and Elma (Welsh) Pauley. Melrose attended Burton School. She was united in marriage to Dale Stoney on December 13, 1941 in Fennimore. Melrose worked on the home farm while raising three children. She also washed dishes and peeled potatoes at the Hi-Way Café that her son, Jeffery, owned for 18 years. Melrose babysat for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed playing cards, word puzzles, fishing, canning, reading, and especially music.
Survivors include her children: Terry (Lynn) Stoney; Sandy (Dewey) Vosberg; 7 grandchildren: Kim (Kevin Bennett) Stoney; Dave Stoney; Shelly (Andy) Butler; Brenda (Luke) Richards; Tammy (Terry Millin) Schaefer; Brandon (Laura) Stoney; Shawn (Kristy) Stoney; 8 great-grandchildren: Lucas and Laci Richards; Lane Stoney; AJ Butler; Jake and Ryan Stoney; Samantha and Eddie Klein; 2 great-great grandchildren: Breckett and Taya Reynolds; two sisters-in-law: Ruth and Mary Pauley; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to her husband, Dale, Melrose was preceded in death by her son, Jeffery (Sandy) Stoney; a granddaughter, Annette Stoney; her brothers: Jack, Harlan "Tess", Stanley "Frank", and Jim (Gloria) Pauley.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, December 12, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Potosi with Rev. David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Burton Cemetery, Burton. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, December 11, 2019, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the funeral home.
