Mildred M. Cooper

Mildred M. "Millie" Cooper, age 94, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, rural Lancaster. She was born May 19, 1923, in Barneveld, WI, the daughter of Fred and Bess (Huffman) Mook. Millie graduated from Gays Mills High School and moved to Chicago, IL, where she was employed at Enola Gay Aviation Plant. In 1944, Millie married Robert E. Cooper. At that time, Robert was a cheese maker in West Prairie, WI. In 1951, Bob and Millie moved to Lancaster where he was employed with Schurman Brothers Cheese Factory. Millie worked in Dubuque, IA, for a short period of time, then became a bookkeeper for Schaefer Milling in Potosi, and eventually became the bookkeeper at Napa Auto Parts in Lancaster, retiring at the age of 82. She enjoyed her yard work and the many cats she had. Millie was devoted member of Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster, serving as the bookkeeper and taking care of the weekly money contributions for more than 25 years. She was very involved with the quilters at the church who donated quilts to families in need. Millie dearly loved her family and keeping up with their activities.

Survivors include her daughter, Sandra Gundlach; granddaughter, Barb (Gregg) Schulze; grandson, Ed Gundlach; great-grandson, Rob Schulze; dear cousins: Don (Soon ja) Huffman and his family; David Arbuthnot; brother-in-law, Byron Richason; many nieces and nephews.

Millie was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; a son-in-law, Robert F. Gundlach; siblings: Belva (Peter) Butler; Laurel (Nelda), Raymond, Roland (Joyce), Robert (Donna), Lawrence Mook; and Lola Richason.

Funeral services will be Saturday, July 22, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Christ Lutheran Church in Lancaster with Pastor David Froemming officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is serving the family. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Mildred E, Cooper Memorial Fund has been established with contributions being donated to Christ Lutheran Church, 250 S Grant, Lancaster, WI 53813.
