Robert D. "Bob" Hudson

CASSVILLE – Robert D. “Bob” Hudson, age 84, of Cassville, passed away on Saturday, January 27, 2024, at Bluff Haven in Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin. He was born March 4, 1939, the son of George and Lucille (Kress) Hudson. Bob graduated from Lancaster High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Navy in the Asiatic Theater, during the Formosa Conflict. Bob served his country, side by side, with his brother, Richard, on the same ships, the USS Haven and USS Manatee. This required them to sign the Sullivan Act, that allowed family to serve together. Upon his honorable discharge, he also served in the Naval Reserves. On November 26, 1960, Bob was united in marriage to Gloria C. Shaben at St. Charles Catholic Church. He started his career with National Cash Register as a Technician Rep. In the 1970’s Bob became employed with Wisconsin Barge Line, soon was the manager of the Cassville River Terminal, and eventually became Vice President of the Upper Mississippi River Operations, which later was ARTCO. Bob was proud of his 30 year commitment in the Cassville Harbor Commission, which was instrumental in bringing the Cassville Ferry to Cassville.  As technology increased, Bob helped many towns and businesses develop web sites and maintain their computerized systems. He was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church. His hobbies included working with computers, fishing, bowling, woodworking, and telling a good story. Bob was a devoted family man, friend to many, and involved in his community. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.

Surviving is his loving wife of 63 years: Gloria; their children: Robert (Janet), Diana (Steve) Hochhausen, and Kyle (Dawn) Hudson; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, with three more on the way; a brother: Michael (Lois) Hudson; a sister-in-law: Elaine Hudson; nieces, nephews, and members of the Shaben family

Bob was preceded in death by his brothers: Richard (Carol) and David Hudson.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, January 31, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church in Cassville, with Fr. Mark Miller officiating. Burial with military honors will be provided by the Mumm – Welsh American Legion Post 352, and Donaldson - Kelly – Kirschbaum VFW Post 7080 in the St. Charles Catholic Cemetery. Family and friends may call on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family.
