Robert “Red” Walsh, age 75 of Cassville, WI, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 surrounded by his family at Meriter Hospital in Madison. He was born on October 18, 1943 in Dubuque, IA, the son of Bernard “Pat” and Ruth (Phelps) Walsh. In 1961 Red was involve in a car accident that left him in a wheelchair for the remainder of his life. The accident did not detour him from his independence. He lived a full and wonderful life. Red was a kind and loving soul. Following his accident, he resided in Walworth, WI at the Christen League for the handicap. There he worked as a foreman in the workshop; operating a machine used to assemble parts of TV tuners. During this time, he met and married his former wife Jackie Williams on January 27, 1968. Red love the outdoors, being on his houseboat, riding in the side by side with his buddy Ernie. He was always up for a good fish fry and social get together with family and friends.
Red is survived by a nephew, Ron (Julie Reinhardt) Walsh; nieces: Robin (Jim Faulkner) Rouse, Michelle Walsh, Melissa Holden, and Theresa Holden; his sister, Marsha (Chris) Pojar; brother, Michael (Janel) Walsh; several greet-nieces and nephews; and a special buddy, Richard “Ernie” (Chris) Fure.
In addition to his parents, Red was preceded in death by his former wife; two brothers: Patrick “Terry” Walsh and Larry “Tobe” Walsh; two sisters: Sharlene “Kay” Walsh and Patsy “Patty” Holden.
A celebration of Red’s life will be held from 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19 at J&J’s Sandbar in Cassville. Private family burial will be held in Mt. Harmony Cemetery in Elkport, IA. The Martin Schwartz Funeral Home and Crematory in Cassville is assisting the family with arrangements.
