Roger B. Starrett, age 86, of Bloomington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, February 23, 2024, at Stonehill Health Center in Dubuque, IA. He was born on February 17, 1938, at home on the family farm, the son of Francis L. and Hazel M. (Rodgers) Starrett. Roger graduated from Cassville High School in 1956. Following graduation, he farmed with his grandmother on the family farm. Roger entered the United States Army Reserves in 1958 and served his country until his honorable discharge in 1964. On February 7, 1959, he was united in marriage to Carole Wiswall at Our Savoir Lutheran Church in Gays Mills. After their marriage, the couple continued to farm the Starrett family farm. After Roger’s retirement from farming, he was employed with Cabela’s and Bemis. He enjoyed farming, his lawn mower and bobcat and his toy tractor collection. Roger was a man of faith and dearly loved his family, church, and church family.
Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Carole; their children: David (Pam Oberbreckling) Starrett, Cynthia Kopp, and Dale (Tammy) Starrett; nine grandchildren: Liz, Alex, Chris, Zachary, Andrew, Lyndi, Leah, Autumn, and Carter; eleven great-grandchildren: Drake, Bailee, Rebecca, Aspen, Hudson, Hazel, Josiah, Landon, Christian, Ryan, and Lainey; his siblings: Faye (Greg) Becwar, Joe (Judy) Starrett, and Dick (Candice) Starrett; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Roger was preceded in death by a brother, James Starrett.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien with Pastor Andy Doll officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Dodge Cemetery, Beetown Township. Family and friends may call on Friday, March 1, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Bloomington and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
