DANE, WI - Steven M. Mergen, known by many as “Bumbi” age 54, of Dane, formerly of Glen Haven, Wisconsin, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at UW Hospital in Madison. Steve was born on December 15, 1970, in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, the son of Robert and Mary (Ronan) Mergen. Steve graduated from Bloomington High School in 1989. After graduation, he worked at Golden Harvest, Bemis, and Kaltenberg Seed Farms before spending the majority of his career in home construction at Premier Builders in Waunakee, Wisconsin. Steve enjoyed participating in pool and dart leagues, watching the Wisconsin Badgers, traveling and hanging with friends. For those of you who knew Steve, knew that he was a man of few words, but had the biggest heart behind all that toughness.
Steve is survived by two siblings, brother Jim (Sue) Mergen and sister Anne (Tom) Hore; four nieces and nephews, Eric (Heather) Mergen, Brittany (Britni) Mergen, Justin (Kate) Hore and Jena (Dylan) Siegenthaler; 10 great nieces and nephews, Leighton, Graham, Keira and Brecken Mergen, Bella and Boston Mergen, Ryker and Ada Siegenthaler, and Carter and Avery Hore, four aunts Martha Neis, Janice (Leon) Stern, Kay Taylor and Jane (Mike) Martin and two great aunts Virginia Ward and Evelyn “Skip” Knapp and many cousins and friends.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, niece MaKayla Hore, uncles Peter Mergen and Carl Neis, great uncles Gerald Knapp and Earl Ward, and cousin Ryan Taylor.
