Thomas V. “Tom” Zenz, age 84, of Lancaster, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 19, 1939, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, the son of Marcus and Maxine (Gillis) Zenz. Tom attended St. Clement grade school and graduated from Lancaster High School in 1957. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. On leave from the army, Tom was united in marriage to Patricia Irish on June 20, 1963, at St. Clement Catholic Church. They lived in France for one year. Their oldest son was born in France. Tom was honorably discharged in 1964. Tom worked at Farmers Telephone Company in Lancaster for 38 years. He was on the Lancaster Rescue Squad for 24 years and served as Chief for six years. Tom received the Lancaster Plus Award in 1995. He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council No. 2820.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; their children: Blaine (Rita) Zenz, Shane (Robbin) Zenz, Kerry (Lisa) Zenz; seven grandchildren: Brittney, Tiffany (Zach) Donner, Shawn, Taylor, Clete, Brandon, and Dustin; three great-grandchildren: Mason and Maddyx Donner and Corbin Reynolds; a brother, Ronnie (Kris) Zenz; a sister, Mary Pat (Harold) Stohlmeyer; other relatives and many friends.
In addition to his parents, Marcus and Maxine, Thomas was preceded in death by his mother and father-in-law, Cletus and Lucille Irish.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father Steve Brunner officiating. Burial with military honors accorded by the Wiliam Pollock VFW Post No. 2344 and the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 will be in St. Clement Cemetery, Lancaster. Family and friends may call on Friday, March 8, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church where a 3:45 p.m. Knights of Columbus rosary will be prayed and on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of services at the church. In lieu of plants and flowers, a Thomas V. Zenz Memorial Fund has been established. Martin Schwartz Funeral Home & Crematory in Lancaster is entrusted with his care.
