Walter Bradley, age 87, of Lancaster, died on Sunday, January 25, 2009, at Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster. He was born on September 25, 1921, in rural Lancaster, the son of Joseph and Elizabeth (Kelly) Bradley. He enlisted in the United States Air Force serving his country in the South Pacific from 1942 until 1945. Walter was a member of the Air Apaches Bombardment Group in the 501st Bomber Squadron. On September 18, 1950, he was united in marriage to Doris A. Metcalf at St. Marys Catholic Church in Glen Haven. Together they farmed in Glen Haven Township on the Matt Kalscheur farm, where they had a wonderful dairy farm that they loved very much. Walter and Doris dearly loved their family and especially their grandchildren. In 1996, they retired and moved to Lancaster. Walter is a member of St. Clement Catholic Church and the Richard Burns American Legion Post No. 109 of Lancaster.

Survivors include his children: Virginia (Thomas) Johnson, Bloomington; Charlene (Timothy) Schmitz, Bloomington; four grandchildren: Patrick and Paula Johnson, Sara and David Schmitz; his mother-in-law, Marie Metcalf, Lancaster; his brother: Stewart (Alberta) Bradley, Glen Haven; one sister-in-law, Dorothy Bradley, Platteville; brother-in-law, Donald (Deloris) Metcalf, Cassville; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Doris, six brothers: Jasper, Delbert, Lawrence, Earl, Leo, and Donald, his father-in-law, Allen Metcalf and a great-niece, Jodi Metcalf.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, January 28, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Father William Seipp officiating. Burial with military honors was in Charlotte Cemetery, Glen Haven Township. Friends called on Wednesday, from 9:00 a.m. until time of services at the church.
